80, chapter 1

"80, 80!"
"Billie Joe?"
"Oh, the connection is kinda bad. Anyway, we're in Mexico now and been, you know, promoting the album and shit. I haven't been able to get enough time to call you until now." said the voice on the line.
"Thanks hun, I miss you real bad. And so does Joey and Jakob." replied Adrienne.
"Yeah, I know it's been a while since the last time we've been touring. But, you got through it back then, and you can do it again, can't you?"
"Just.. this time, Joey and Jakob are older and need more attention."
"I know, I've been feeling bad that I haven't been giving them much attention, I realize that they haven't been...we haven't had much family time."
"It's O.K. It's your job. But, you'll be home for Christmas, won't you? Billie?"
"I'll see." Billie Joe replied rather solemnly.
Silence.
"I.. I love you Billie Joe Armstrong. You know I do."
"Yeah, I love you too, 80."
"Um, you wanna speak to the kids? Jakob just came back from the soccer match."
"That's what I was just gonna ask. How'd it go?"
"Well, I think Jakob would want to tell you." said Adrienne as she rushed from the dinning room to the living room where her two sons were watching some cartoons. "Jakob, it's Dad." she said holding her hand over the receiver.
Jakob jumped up and rushed to take the phone from his mother's hands. "Daddy? Oh... you should have seen my game. Mommy video taped it. I scored TWICE! And..."
Adrienne began drifting off to the beat of the happy background music coming from the television. Every other year was like this. Album, publicity, tour. But, this year, it felt different. The boys. His and her life and soul. They were older and needed Dad. But, she couldn't deny, it was fun she thought recalling the Billboard Awards after party. The good old times. Before she knew it, Jakob had finished his talk with Dad and handed over the receiver to Joey. They were just saying goodbye.
"Dad wants to talk with you." said Joey.
"Thanks." she replied. "Hey hun."
"Hi. Promise me that no matter what happens, you'll still love me."
"I promise," she said. It wasn't unusual for him to ask this "I will always love you."

She spent the next hour or so looking at all the Green Day fan sites. Her favorite one in particular, Green Day Authority had a tagboard where she could see all the ridiculous rumors going around about the American Idiot movie, or how much this one girl loves Billie Joe, and which songs were their favorites. For some people, it would make them angry to read about how others are obsessed with their loved ones, but for Adrienne, it was actually quite amusing. Then her next stop would be geekstinkbreath.net where she would read the made up stories about Green Day meeting some girl and Billie Joe getting hitched. Being in love, you have to trust your loved one, and that's what Adrienne did, she trusted Billie Joe and supported him too. They knew each other and their pet peeves and turn ons. However, reading some stories, she clearly knew that these people didn’t. But, a few people had their facts straight, and she was impressed.

The doorbell rang. It was six o'clock. She rushed to the door, but Joey got their first. "Hi, Tamara! Come in. Joey shut the door please. Don’t be silly, it's December and you are letting the cold air in."
"I'm getting the mail Mommy. You didn’t get it this morning."
"O.K. Thank you. You can go and watch the television. And please tell Jakob to have a bath.
"So Tamara, what brings you here." Adrienne asked her long time friend as she sifted thru the mail.
"Nah, I was bored and so...I decided to come visit."
"Mommy, Jakob's not going to have a bath."
"Mommy, I don’t want to have a bath. Scooby-Doo's going to be on at six-thirty!" Jakob cried.
"Jake, honey, if you have a bath now, I'll let you have chocolate-chip fudge ice-cream." Adrienne asked pleadingly.
"How many scoops?" Jakob's eyes narrowed suspiciously.
"Three."
"Three!" he gasped.
"One, for having a bath, and two for my hero scoring two goals at the soccer game."
"O.K." said Jakob, content about this offer.
"And brush your teeth properly." demanded Adrienne.
"Yes, Mom."
"You always surprise me. The way you control them." said Tamara referring to the kids.
"Yeah, well you don't do so bad with your teenagers."
"80, your husband is away half the time!"
"But, he'll be home for Christmas." 80 said as she was looking at her mail.
"What makes you so sure?"
Adrienne flashed her a CD from Billie Joe that she found in the mail.
Tamara walked over. "What does it say?" she asked.
Adrienne peeled off the sticky note attached to the front. "It says 'Here are a few songs we decided to cover for a new Green Day Christmas album coming out. Please send feedback. Billie Joe P.S. Please listen too the first track.'"
"That...That is one sweet husband you've got!"
Adrienne walked over to the CD player and put the CD in. It started to play, and after the first three words, she realized it was the song "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and as she listened to it, she could hear that voice singing from the hear t just like in "Minority" and "2,000 Light Years Away"

I'm dreamin' tonight of a place I love
Even more then I usually do
And although I know it's a long road back
I promise you

I'll be home for Christmas
You can count on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents under the tree
Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light beams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams

Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light beams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams
If only in my dreams
