She's a Rebel, chapter 24
"What?" "They're leaving tomorrow to go to Amsterdam, Amy said you might want to say goodbye to Billie Joe before they left" "What time are they leaving?" "6 o' clock" my heart sank. Alex gets up at five to do his paper round. If he saw me sneaking out of the flat to see Billie Joe one last time, he'd feel betrayed. And I'd only just made him trust me again. "I'll go with you if you really want" "Well I can't go can I? Alex would hate me for it"
Kyra's mouth curled slyly, "I thought you can Alex were getting along pretty well from what I could hear in here" "Oh God, you could hear us?" "Who couldn't? The walls were shaking, he must have been banging you against that head board pretty hard" I blushed, Kyra always said it how it was. "I think you should go, otherwise you'll regret not giving him closure. So that's like you're still together" "We never were together" "What about that time you rang me from the toilets?" "I was just asking in case" "You need to talk to him anyway, if you don't you'll never stop thinking about him". Yet again, she was right.
"Wake me up at five, you'll have to do my hair" "Okays darling, night, night" She gave me a big best friend hug and went off to bed. I stayed up staring blankly into the TV screen, thinking about what I was going to say to Billie Joe when we had our last ever moments together. Tears flooded to my eyes just considering it. No more Billie Joe. Did it have to end so soon, when we'd known each other for under a week? I'd had so many fantasies about meeting him, but none of them ended in this way. With me sitting back in my flat on an uncomfortable sofa, crying over him, fearing him leaving. My plans had been destroyed. I went to bed with damp eyes, and silently cried some more, into my pillow as I drifted to sleep.
Somebody prodded my back to wake me up, "Is it that time already? I'll go get in the shower" I rolled over and lifted my head off the pillow to come nose to nose with Alex. "Hey" "Hey" "Kyra told me" "Oh" "Why do you need to see him? I thought there was nothing between you two?" "There isn't" "So?" "He let me stay in his penthouse, the least I can do is say thank you" "Do you have to?" "Yes. Plus I have to say bye to Amy, Mike and Tre, they're my mates too" "... " "You're not mad at me are you?" "Maybe". I reached over and kissed him gently. "Bye" "Bye" he walked out of room and out the door to deliver his papers. I watched him go.
I got up and got in the shower. I emerged some twenty minutes later to do my make-up. Kyra ran in my room just as I was about to turn on the straighteners. "Mischa we've got to leave now, the only cab I could get is here" "But my hair's still wet" "Come on hurry" she said as she put in her other earring in a hurry. "You go get in the taxi, I'll be one minute" "right". I waited until I heard her go down the stairs. Then I picked up the suitcase containing all of my stuff and came out slowly, mentally saying 'bye' to everything as I walked. I couldn't look into Alex's room. It killed me to go.
"What's in the suitcase?" Kyra asked as I got into the cab. I slammed the door shut, "Drive please" as soon as the car had started and I'd watched the flat getting smaller and smaller behind us I replied, "... Kyra don't get angry but... "
