She's a Rebel, chapter 25
Kyra's eyes swelled with tears "Don't leave me." It was a spur of the moment thing to say but it made sense, "Come with me." She smiled but replied, "This is your journey, not mine. Someone needs to stay here with Alex. I'll keep him company until you get back." "Yeah" until I got back. When would that be? Would I ever want to come back? "Stop here that's fine" I called to the taxi driver. We got out and wheeled my suitcase over to the airport. It was a cold, dewy morning but it was bright and airy. I stood outside in the refreshing breeze with my suitcase while Kyra went to buy a ticket for me.
When she came back she handed it to me sadly. She let out a sudden sob and threw her arms around me "Don't leave me" I embraced her tightly and stroked her hair "I have to" she pulled herself together and took the suitcase from me. "They said it's this way," she indicated leading me towards departures. She cheered up when I bought her some duty free perfume "Think of me whenever you wear it okay?" she nodded quietly. "Aren't you going to buy anything for Alex?" she'd really wanted it to work out for us. I knew things would be weird for them now that I wasn't there to tie them together. "If I buy him something he'll think it's a leaving present" "Well that is the point" "I'm not ending it with him, I'm just going on a long holiday without him" that was a lie, this was the end of the road for me and him and we all knew it. But Kyra tried to look perkier.
After we'd wandered around the shops for a bit more we decided it was time. I went up the steps nervously, with butterflies in my stomach. Kyra came behind me, carrying my case. He was stood with his back turned, gazing out of the window as cars went by. I slowly went up to him. Amy saw me and enthusiastically gave me a hushed thumb up. Mike and Tre were sat on the end seats talking. "Were you looking for me?" Billie Joe jumped and spun around. He looked dazed for a moment before holding me close and kissing me tenderly. Amy got up to thank Kyra for bringing me here, but Kyra was too busy sobbing as she realized what she had been trying to bring me away from. When the kiss was finished she came over with Amy, "I'm so sorry for ever doubting you" "It's all right you were just being a true friend" we hugged while Amy and Billie Joe looked disappointed since they thought I wasn't going with them.
"Can I get a hug?" pouted Amy with her arms outstretched. "Of course" "I'm going to miss you... If it wasn't for you I wouldn't be here now, thank you so much." We came apart and gave each other a small smile. "We'll leave you to it" said Kyra as she dragged Amy away and went to meet her hero, Mike. "So I guess this is good-bye" purred Billie Joe sadly. I let him think it was, just to see what he'd say. "Mike told me what happened with you and Will" "did he?" "Yeah, I decided I don't care if you're a psycho man-beater, I still like you" "But it wasn't me!" Billie Joe laughed. He was joking, "I know it was Amy really, don't worry" I hit him feebly on the arm. "Don't mess with my emotions at a time like this!" he became poignant again. He ran his fingers through my hair.
"I'm going to miss you" he gave me a long passionate good-bye kiss. I started to giggle. He looked hurt and confused. "Is this a joke to you?" "It's not that... " I held up my ticket. His face lit up. "OH MY FUCKING GOD HELL YEAH!" the whole departure's lounge looked around at him, including Amy, Mike and Tre. I saw Kyra quickly explain it to them. Amy shot up from her seat, and came running over to give me the tightest embrace ever. "Yay!" I saw Mike and Tre beaming from their seats as well. Kyra looked heart broken. Overhead an announcer told us the plane would be leaving shortly. I left Billie Joe and Amy to deride each other's overreactions, and went to see Kyra, Tre and Mike. "You're coming!" "Nice one!" they welcomed me warmly as I sat down next to Kyra.
"What row's your seat on?" "Erm... Third class row D, its aisle seat" "I'll swap with you, I've got a first class window seat next to Billie Joe" "You'd do that for me?" "Sure, I'll be closer to the hot air hostess' there" "Thank you Tre!" I gave him an awkward hug. My arms were starting to ache form handing out so many. "I'll take your luggage, I'm getting on now, you coming Tre?" Tre followed Mike through the doors and eyed-up a skinny brunette hostess on the way. I got up to go after them, since I was one of the only people left in the lounge, Billie Joe and Amy had already got on. I went and handed my ticket over to the woman.
A voice called, "Don't leave me." I twisted round to see Kyra stood crying a few meters away. I went over for one last cuddle, "I'll send you a postcard baby, don't fret" I sauntered through the doors, leaving behind my previous life. "No" whimpered Kyra. She continued to stand and let the tears flow, as she watched the plane set off from the window. "Come back" her hands slid down the glass as she collapsed in grief on the floor.
