A New Beginning, An Old Life, chapter 1
New house.
New school.
New life.
They weren't things I wanted. They weren't things I needed. But I had them.
My mum and Dad had divorced, and now me and Mum were moving to America. America?!? What for? It's ridiculously far away - what about my friends? My boyfriend? Well, ex now.
"I'm moving," I told him.
"Where to?"
"America!"
"Well, I guess this is it then."
And that was it. I was so... in love with him. I really thought I was. But I guess I was wrong.
I put the matter to the back of my mind - that was all over. And here we were, in this new house. It wasn't that great, just your average house. No pool or anything like those houses in the movies.
We'd been there for the weekend. And today was my first day of school. I wasn't particularly excited about it. If it was anything like my old school I'd be the outcast with the 'werid' taste in music.
I sighed and got up.
Half an hour later I was pretty much ready. I was wearing baggy jeans, a bright green vest top and my pink converses. I was still trying to straighten my dark blonde hair when my Mum came in.
"Alex?"
"What?"
"You should leave now, the bus will be here in a minute." I sighed again and set off, mentally preparing myself for the day ahead.
On the bus I stood out quite a bit. The new girl, sat on her own... who didn't notice me? But who paid me attention? I was glad I'd brought my C.D player along, and sat with the sex pistols playing to me on my way.
The hallways were a blur of lockers. Seriously, that's what it was like. I finally located my locker - 666. That amused me. I dumped a few of the books I wouldn't need in there and the bell went. The hallway steadily emptied around me, and I had no idea where I was going.
I studied my timetable again. Okay, so I knew where I was going, just not where that was. If that even makes sense.
I suddenly walked into three guys my age.
"Ow," I muttered, but quietly. I didn't want to cause too much of a scene.
"Woah, watch out!" said one of them. He had green hair and blue eyes, and was laughing. So was his friend, who was shorter, with green eyes and black hair.
"You okay?" said the third, taller and with piercing blue eyes.
"Yeah, I'm a bit lost, but... "
"Hey, you're English!" the black haired one said.
"Yeah."
"You're not all posh though," the green haired one said.
"Nope."
"Cool. I'm Billie Joe, this is Mike, and this is Tre," said the black haired one. Tre was the one with the green hair.
"Tre? Isn't that french?" I asked.
"Yeah. My real names Frank Edwin Wright," he informed me.
"The third," added Mike.
"The third," he agreed, wrinkling his nose.
"So, where are you going? And what's your name?" Billie Joe asked.
"I'm Alex... short for Alexandra," I told him, pulling a face myself then. "And I'm going to... E5. Mr Thomas?"
"You're with Mike. Smart ass class," Tre laughed.
"Mike, show her where it is, we're off to our sloooow class," Billie said.
So I walked with Mike to class.
"This is good," he told me. "You can be my excuse for being late." I laughed.
I decided that with these guys, maybe things won't be quite so bad over here...
