A New Beginning, An Old Life, chapter 2
My first day passed in a blur of lockers, fun times with Mike, Billie Joe and Tre, and strange looks, because I hung out with them. But I didn't care. I was used to strange looks, I could deal with those.
It turned out I was in most classes with Mike, so I had someone to talk to.
Other than that, my first day was pretty uneventful. I managed to get into most of my teachers bad books though - nothing new there.
The rest of the evening was, well, boring as hell actually. Mostly I tried to take the time to make my room look more like my room, if that makes sense. I was putting up posters and re-arranging furniture until I went to bed.
And then I heard the stones hitting my window.
I ignored it at first, because I was damned tired and it was probably nothing. But stones kept hitting it, so I got out of bed and opened the window.
"Tre?" I gasped. Then Mike and Billie came into view too. What were they doing?
"What are you guys doing?"
"Well, we're bored," Tre said as if it was the most obvious ting in the world.
"Yeah, but what are you doing? It's... It's one am!"
"So?" Billie Joe grinned. "Coming out?"
I'm not too sure that the drainpipe outside my room is strong enough to climb down, but I just about managed it.
"So just why are you all out now?" I asked when I was down there. "And, more importantly, how the hell did you know where I live?"
"We're stalking you," said Mike with a wink. I laughed.
"So, do you guys come out this late often?" I ask.
"Yeah... It's the best time to come out if we don't want people to hurl abuse at us," Billie told me, rolling his eyes.
"I know how that feels," I said, and told them about my old school. How everyone thought I was 'the weird goth' and no one gave me the time of day except my few friends. And I told them about my ex as well, how he just broke it off completely like an asshole, and they all bitched about him with me for a while.
I definitely liked hanging out with these guys.
Of course, the next day at school I regretted going out with them so late. I stumbled onto the bus bleary eyed from lack of sleep, much to their amusement.
"Aww, you can't handle the late nights?" Tre mocked as I collapsed onto a seat next to Mike.
"Shut up!" I told him with a grin so he knew I was joking.
My lessons were a bit of a disaster that day, because I was practically asleep in most of them.
No way was I going out again tonight.
I was in the girls toilets when I heard a group of cheerleaders come in. I stayed in the cubicle - I didn't want any abuse from them.
"Hey, who's that new girl in your class?" one of them said. I froze. This was me they were talking about.
"Er... Alex? She's really weird."
"I know! I mean, why is she hanging out with Mike and those loosers?"
"I don't know. She's pretty freaky though. We're not going to bother trying to get her to be friends with us, are we?"
"God no."
"Good."
And then they left. You'd think I was used to people trashing me, what with me being so 'weird and outcasted' but it still hurt. I mean, I'd rather people disliked me for who I am rather than liked me for who I'm not, but I can't say it wouldn't be nice if people were a little more open minded.
I told Billie, Mike and Tre about it, and they agreed with me. I think they have it worse than me though - half the school seem to be convinced they're gay and go around calling them fags all the time.
"I mean, I know I'm bi, but... " Billie Joe said.
"What?" I asked.
"I'm bi... Oh yeah you didn't know. Well, I am."
It seems these guys just have more and more surprises.
But if I'd known the surprise I was going to get that night I'd have never opened the damn window for them...
