A Blank Decision, chapter 3
Mike felt something poking his cheek and he opened his eyes late afternoon to find Jakob poking him with a drumstick he got from Tre. He waved his hand near his cheek and heard Jakob laugh, then he tried to sit up. The room started to spin and his head pounded so he layed back down. 'I'll try that later... ' he thought to himself.
He saw Adrienne get Jakob and carry him out of the room, then walk back in the room. He layed there looking at a blurred shilouet of Adrienne, laughing and looking around the room. She kicked him playfully and he tried to sit up again.
"What do you want?" he whined.
"You guys, I swear..." she laughed, sitting on the couch "So, when do you gotta be back in the studio?"
"Umm... Hold on." he told her. He traced through his brain, trying to remember anyhting at all from the previous night. "I got nothin..."
"Figures. Alright, well I'll leave you boys to get over your hangovers." she laughed, walking to the door. "Bye bye."
"Bye Adi." he called after her as she closed the door.
He looked around the room and saw the couch, TV, and Tre. Tre was snoring loudly a few feet away from Mike and he was surprised that he hadn't woke him up instead of Jakob. 'I need ear plugs.. Fuckin elephant man over here.. ' he thought, attempting to get to his feet.
He stumbled a bit, then managed to hold his ground and walk to the practice room where the kept some really good earplugs they used at their concerts. He opened up the door and shuffled inside. He got over near their equipment stash and spotted Billie sitting in a chair with Blue and head phones on, struming absent mindedly and bobbing his head.
Decieding not to bother him, Mike grabbed his earplugs and quietly walked out. He closed the door behind him and put the earplugs in, then walked down the hall and back into the 'party' room. 'Haha Tre, I can't hear you snore no more. ' he thought, laughing a bit. He squinted to see if Tre was still asleep and nodded, he was. He plopped down on the couch and looked at Tre, then he heard a squeal from underneath him.
"Get off of me you drunk moron!" Tre yelled, though somewhat muffled by the carpet.
"What the...?" Mike exclaimed, looking around.
"Get off of me!" he repeated.
Mike looked down and focused harder on what he had thought to be the couch. To his surprise, it was of course Tre. He jumped off of him and apologized, then wondered over to the real couch. 'Oops. ' Mike joked in his head.
Tre sat up and looked around, then he frowned. He stood up perfectly and strolled over to the couch and joined Mike, then looked around some more. Mike watched his strange behavor, either he got so drunk he forgot where he was or he just was bored, Mike couldn't tell.
"Where's Billie?" Tre asked after awhile.
"I dunno." Mike replied quickly. Then he remembered who was in the room when he went for earplugs. "Wait... Yea I do. He's in the practice room."
"Okay... Why?" Tre said.
"I don't know, go find out."
"Fine."
Tre got up the couch and started to walk over to the door. 'Why is he not hungover? ' Mike thought to himself as Tre made his way to the door. But he found out that Tre was just trying his hardest to seem fine, for he ran straight into the wall thinking it was the door. Mike laughed loudly as Tre jumped back and re-examined his surrondings.
He got it right the next time and opened up the door, then walked out. Tre shook his head as he walked to the practice room and looked down at his feet. 'That one hurt. ' he thought. He put his head back up just before he crashed into the door and opened it.
Billie was hunched over a piece of paper and scribbeling things down, humming slightly to himself. Tre watched, intreeged, and quietly walked over to a chair. He sat down as Billie countiued to scribble on the paper. Tre carefully stood up and looked at the paper, seeing only 'American Idiot' underlined at the top of the page.
He frowned, new song? It could possibly be one and he sat waiting for Billie to play it. For the first time he could remember, Tre was pleased hangovers made everything sound louder. He heard Billie strumming the chords as loud as he himself was inside the headphones. 'That's pretty good. ' Tre thought after Billie played a piece and went back to scribbeling.
Tre sighed and stood up, he was bored now. As quietly as he had entered, Tre left the practice room. If Billie was working on a new song, that meant they could start work on a whole new album. Hopefully some one won't steal this one before their done.
-Later that day-
Billie had called everyone working in the band to come over and listen to his new song. He called Adrienne, Joseph, and Jakob as well. Now they all sat egerly inside their practice room.
"Okay, I got this new song. It's not all done yet so don't go nuts if it doesn't sound perfect just yet..." he turned on the amp. And strummed a few chords.
Then he played the intro to the song, blowing everyone away. He strummed some chords, one out of tune, and stood in a cocky way. He always did that, but it was just perfect to see with this song. He opened his mouth and started to sing.
"Don't wanna be an American idiot!" he sang "Don't want a nation under the new media. Hey can you hear the sound of histarea? The subliminal mind fuck America."
Everyone looked taken aback by his lyrics, he was obivously angry about the war. He played through and got to the guitar solo, then played through the vocal solo. It was great, as far as everyone else was concerned, and they were all somewhat sad when Billie ended.
He stood smiling at the faces of his friends and the clapping and chanting that came with them. 'They liked it, that's always good. ' he thought to himself happily as he shut off the amp. And put his guitar on it's stand. Mike was on his feet clapping for Billie, after all, he did help out a bit on the song as well.
Billie bowed and stood there, then they quieted down. They said their goodbye's to the rest of the band and Adrienne kissed Billie for a job well done, then left the three of them to discuss band issues. She closed the door with Joseph trailing behind her clapping for his father. Billie grinned.
"Billie, that was great!" Mike exclaimed.
"It was amazing, what is it called?" Tre told him.
"Thanks guys." Billie couldn't help but blush "I titteld it American Idiot."
"You know what?" Mike said.
"Huh?" Billie and Tre both asked.
"I think we got somethin here... Somethin big." he told them.
He saw Adrienne get Jakob and carry him out of the room, then walk back in the room. He layed there looking at a blurred shilouet of Adrienne, laughing and looking around the room. She kicked him playfully and he tried to sit up again.
