A Blank Decision, chapter 4
"Ahh... Go away..." Billie groaned in his sleep. Adrienne looked worridly at him.
"Work is gettin to him." she concluded.
She smiled and turned off the light on her bed stand, then heard a loud crash from the other room. She pulled the sheets over her head and waitied for Billie to get up and check it out. But, instead, he rolled over. Adrienne laughed and turned her light back on.
Another crash came and she heard a cry. It sounded like Tre's voice. Adrienne stumbled through the dimly-lit room to the door. Then she lazily put a hand on the doorknob and twisted it, but jumped back as it opened.
She burst out laughing after she caught her breath. It was Tre. He looked scared and upset, in his teddy bear pajamas at the door of her bedroom. She grinned and shook her head, then gave him a strange look.
"I had a bad dream!" he whined. Billie stirred in his sleep. "Can I sleep with you guys again?"
"Tre!" Adrienne laughed.
"Hell no! You've been having too many bad dreams, go and sleep with... Go and sleep with Mike." Billie spoke, then he rolled over again.
"But Billie!" Tre protested.
"Tre, just... Just go back to bed please." Adrienne whispered.
"B-but, Bush will eat me!"
Adrienne sighed and slowly closed the door on Tre. More recently his dreams focused on the President, and how he would try to kill him for working on the record. Billie and Mike found this amussing, but were growing sick of having him show up at their doors. Adrienne chuckeld to herself and sat on the edge of their bed, then shut her light off again and went to sleep.
So far they have recorded nine songs, most being untittled. This week was their week off so they haven't thought about the record too much, but are always keeping their minds open for a new song. Mike, Billie Joe, and Tre all decided they would go out tomorrow while they could, and enjoy being away from the studio.
-The next morning-
The sun shown dimly through Mike's curtins he had drawn shut the night before. He slept like a rock throughout the night and was actually enjoying a nice wake up. He yawned loudly and stretched in his large bed, then got up and walked to the window. He rubbed his eyes as he opened the curtins.
"What the fuck!" he shouted. Tre was making faces with his face pressed against the window.
"Goood morning Mikie! Betcha wondering what I'm doing here huh?" Tre yelled through the glass.
"I don't even want to know..." Mike sighed. He closed the curtins again and walked away.
Laughing and shaking his head, he fumbled for the light switch. Atfer he turned it on, he walked over to his dresser and pulled out some comfortable clothes. He smiled to himself about Tre and closed the drawer.
He took his shirt off and pulled a fresh one on. Then he got out of his sweat pants and put on some loose jeans. He stretched one last time, shut his light off, then walked out of his room and into the hall.
He closed his door tightly behind him. Billie was whistling down the hall, Mike could here the tune of one of their new songs quite clearly. He grinned and walked in his direction, then rounded the corner.
The smell of breakfast filled the air as Mike joined everyone in the dining room. Forks clattered against plates and cups clashed with cereal bowls as soon as everyone but Tre was seated. They waited awhile for him, but he didn't show and so they started breakfast without him. About a half-hour into the meal, Tre finally came in through the front door.
He grinned and sat down at the table. Many eyes watched him as he loaded some food onto his plate. Mike was sceptical of him, why had he been so late to breakfast? Billie was apperantly thinking the same because he set his knife down on his plate and looked at Tre.
"Wha ook ya?" he asked thickly through his pancakes.
"Nuttin..." Tre answered, slopping some jam onto his toast.
"Tre." Mike said. "What were you doing?"
"I was thinkin of a song, alright?" he sighed, looking at Mike and picking up his mug.
Billie grinned and picked up his knife again. He understood how it was when you thought of a song, it takes everything you have in you to do and the time passes quickly. Mike only shrugged and turned to his bowl of Lucky Charms, growing bored of the conversation.
When they all had finished, Billie led them to the 'party' room and they made plans for later that day. Tre wanted to go to the beach and relax, Mike wanted to go and wonder around town for awhile, and Billie wanted to hit some clubs. None of them agreed on anything, until Billie came up with a plan.
"Okay, I got it. Why don't we wonder around town for a bit, then head down to the beach. After we're done there, we can go to clubing!" he stated. Mike and Tre nodded their heads in agreement.
Satisfied that he had figured things out, Billie Joe smiled and got to his feet. The other two watched him as he left the room to go change. Mike sighed and went to go change too, then Tre walked out after him.
They met up again downstairs, said their goodbyes, and left the house for their car. They laughed and joked on the way to the garage and soon Mike was jumping into the driver's seat. Billie took the backseat this time and Tre got passenger. Then they all sat silently as Mike drove them into town.
Tre hummed a verse from a new song as Mike pulled into the parking lot of a large mall. He hopped out of his side of the car and waited for Billie and Mike. They joined him shortly after, then the three began to walk.
It was a cold afternoon for California, so the boys pulled their jackets on tighter as they looked at the stores lining the street. Billie stopped abruptly, making Tre and Mike choke back to see what he wanted.
"Uh, where are we going?" he asked.
"Nowhere really, just looking." Mike answered. Then he smiled. "We could go to my coffee shop."
"Oui! Yea! Let's go there!" Tre cheered. Billie shrugged and they continued to walk.
-10 minutes later-
The bell on the door chimmed as they stepped inside the coffee shop. They hung their jackets up on the coat rack by the door, then sat down at a table. Mike was happy to be back in his little coffe shop again, it's been so long. He got up from his chair and went to get them some drinks.
Billie took his hat off and chucked it at Tre, who was watching Mike fill some yellow mugs up with coffee. Tre whirled around quickly and Billie laughed. 'He's so fun to mess with. ' he told himself. Tre frowned, threw his hat back, then turned back around. Billie looked over Tre's shoulder and saw Mike making his way back to the table with three mugs.
Mike set the mugs down carefully and made room for himself next to Tre. The warming and homely feeling the coffee shop gave him made him feel happy and alert. He took a sip of his coffee and felt the warm liquid trickle down his throat. Ahh, how he loved his coffee...
"Mike!" Billie shouted for about the tenth time. Mike snapped out of it.
"What?" he asked him over the rim of his coffee mug.
"I asked you if and when you wanted to head for the beach. It's not lookin too good outside today." Billie replied. He cupped his hand around his mug and took a sip of coffee.
"I don't care." he answered.
"Well, make up your mind cause the weather is messing with our schedule." Billie told him, pausing from his drink to speak.
"Tre?" Mike asked. Tre looked up.
"Umm... Whatever Billie Joe said." he replied.
Tre smiled quickly and then put his mug to his mouth. 'What is with him today...? ' Mike thought as he tossed some other things around in his head. He came to the conclusion that they might want to just head home and hang out there. They had nice warm fireplaces at home, and nice warm blankets, and warm coffee...
As Mike voiced his opinion to his friends, it started to rain. Billie cussed aloud and slammed his mug down on the table, California was suposed to be sunny and hot. He liked Mike's idea though, having just a quiet and relaxing day at home sounded nice too. Mike frowned and cleared the table as Billie thought things over in his head.
"Yea, I guess that's fine. Let's go home then." Billie sighed after a long silence.
"Okay. Come on Tre." Mike replied. He got to his feet and led the way out of the shop.
Tre pushed him aside and raced into the street. The rain soaked him in and instant. Billie Joe laughed as he flipped through his wallet to find the car keys and heard Mike laughing softly next to him. Billie found his keys and closed his wallet.
"Never run in the rain with your socks on." he laughed as he raised his head. Then he saw a car speed past him in Tre's direction. "Tre, watch out!"
