Family Man, chapter 16
Billie Joe pulled into the court yard and sighed. He looked at Adrienne who was fixing her hair, "hon, i don't think it'll matter what you look like."
"Yes, i know. But im nervouse and i need to do somethign with my hands." Adrienne expalind as she played with her hair.
They got out fo the car and started the walk up the steps to the courthouse. Tre had to hold onto Katie, he legs were shakey, "I don't wanna look at him again." She said, aslmost crying.
Tre rubbed her back. "Its ok, i wont let him do anything to you." he said softly.
The arrived in the court room and Katie sat in her chair, oppisit of the judge. Billie Joe, Adrienne, Mike and Tre were all sitting in the benches behind them. Katie looked over and saw Matt being lead in by two guards. Matt glared at Katie and she looked away, tears in her eyes. The guards sat Matt at the table adn stood close to him. The ballif came in and asked everyone to rise. The judge walked in and everyone sat back down.
"Ms. Armstrong, you are charging Mr. Frye with rape. Correct" the judge asked.
Katie nodded, "Yes your honour"
The judge looked at Matt, "How do you plead?"
"Not guilty" Matt said confidently. Katie heard a huff from her father behind her.
"Ms. Armstrong, you have an attourney with you?"
"Yes i do your honour." Katie replied. Kaites lawyer stood up, "I am Mrs. Shawna Butler, Katies attourney."
The judge nodded, "And Mr. Frye, who is your lawyer?"
Matt stood up, "I am representing myself"
Katie heard another huff behind her. The judge looked at Matt, "Are you sure?"
"Yes i am" Matt said. He glared at Katie and her lawyer. Katie looked at the table.
The judge nodded, "Alright, lets procead. Mrs. Butler, could you please call your first witness to the stand?"
Katies lawyer stood up, "I would like to call Mr. Mike Dirnt to the stand please."
Mike stood up and walked towards the stand. He sat down. Mrs. Buter walked to the stand and began asking questions, "How long have you known Ms. Armstrong?....... How long did you know about Ms. Armstrong and Mr. Frye?........ Can you tell me what she said to you that evening?"
Mike answered all the questions to the best of his knowledge, "I have known Katie almost her whole life......... We only knew about them the day that he attacked her, but we had a suspission that Katie had a boyfriend......... She just told me that he had raped her. She was crying and freaking out. Then she told me that Tre had already known and she didn't want to tell her dad, he might freak out."
Mrs. Butler turned towards Mike, "Thank you. Thats all the questions i have your honour."
"You may step down Mr. Dirnt" The judge said. Mike returned to his seat and smiled at Katie. "Mrs. Butler, do you have another witness?"
"Yes i do your honour. I'd like to call Mr. Tre Cool to the stand"
One by one, all the members of Green Day and a few of Katies friends took the stand and explained about Katie and Matt. It was a short relationship, but so much had hapened in that week. By the end of it, Katie was the last one called to the stand.
Katie stood up and sat on the stand. She took the oath and began to tell her story. Adrienne was crying in Billie Joe's arms when Katie finnished. Katie was also crying. Tre and Mike were staring at Katie, horror in their eyes, wonder what it would be like to be raped, cut up and the fear. Matt sat in his chair, twiddling his thumbs.
The judge called the case to be ajourned for the day, "we will come back tomorrow morning, 9:00 am sharp." She hit her little hammer on the table and stood up. The guards pulld Matt out of his seat and away from the court room.
Kati ran into Tre's arms and cried. Tre rubbed her back, a tear falling from his eyes. He hated to see Katie so wound up about something. They left the court house and went to Billie's and Addie's house.
After a few hours Mike and Tre left. Tre kissed Katie on the cheek.
Katie went up to bed, but she couldn't sleep. The court apperance was still in her mind. The way Matt sounded so sure of him self when he said "Not guilty" made Katie think that he would get off, scott free. She shook her head, "No, we have all kinds of witnesses and i still havea few bruises on my arms." She thought to herself. Katie drifted off to sleep.
"NO!!" Katie sat up in bed, sweat pourign off her face. Adrienne and Billie Joe ran intot he room.
"Katie honny, whats wrong?" Adrienne asked, wrapping her arms around her daughter.
"I had a nightmare about Matt." was all Katie could say before she broke out in tears.
Billie Joe sat on Katies bed, "This is fucking stupid, we can't let this guy terrorize our daughter in her dreams."
"What do you suggest?" Asked Adrienne, still comforting Katie.
"We need this kid to go to jail." Billie replied.
