80 (Adie Please Keep Taking Me Away), chapter 36

A few weeks after the chaos with Woodstock. Mike had to get new front teeth and what not. In the end there were 750 broken legs before Green Day came on many many more after the post mud fight. Billie Joe thought it was the closest thing to anarchy he had ever seen in his life, and that he didn't exactly like it. Neither did the manager of Woodstock Elliot Cahn. Billie Joe was pretty bummed that Mike got injured, but they kind of cheered up a bit when Dookie shot to number 5 on the charts. Green Day was being named the "Best new Band" or "The Next Nirvana". Billie Joe ended up receiving a hate letter from a parent saying that from watching Woodstock on pay-per view that he was "Disrespectful and indecent" (referring to the mud fight and how Mike got his teeth smashed out and when Billie Joe pulled down his pants in front of the crowd and also when Mike got his teeth smashed Billie Joe told the crowd to "Shut the Fuck up". The parent also added in that if his father was alive, he would be ashamed. She found it astonishing that he got in a fight onstage and pulled down his pants. The letter was just unreal she wasn't satisfied with the performance. She even went to the existent of talking shit about Adrienne saying that she is suppose to be his loving wife, but she's never come and visited (even though a lot of the time she went on tour with them, but it was getting more difficult now with their son that they decided to name Joseph Marciano (Marciano after Billie's father).) Billie Joe thought it was pretty brutal. On a happier note Tre was expecting a child too. A girl that him and his girlfriend Lisea were going to call Ramona in January (I smell a relation to the Ramones there.)

A few months later Green Day was doing a full season of touring. As for Adrienne well she was more pregnant (if that makes any sense). It was getting more difficult to be on tour as much, but she was trying the best she could. Before Green Day went back on tour Billie Joe and Adrienne bought a house in North Berkley, but where forced to move because a "fan" that lived close by found out and called a radio station which broadcasted everywhere where he resided at. Billie Joe, suitably pissed off was forced to sell the 1st house. So they were forced to move somewhere else. Billie Joe in a way looked at it as that he wouldn't be in a band if it wasn't for the family. He didn't want to buy into the cliche of being a rock start and having chicks and drugs around him. For him the best part was that he could share everything with someone oppose to doing it alone.

A few weeks after the house incident happened Adrienne decided to meet the guys in Los Anglos for the weekend since they had a 3 night stand there. That day Billie Joe was suppose to get interviewed by someone from the Rolling Stone, then Mike and Tre were suppose to as well. Billie Joe and Adrienne were sitting on the bed when there was a knock at the door. Billie Joe had a tedious smirk on his face. Billie Joe went and answered the door to their room and lead the guest in the room like a kid trying to get to the front in line. There room wasn't exactly spick and span. There were piles of dirty clothes scattered about the room and what not. Across the room was Adrienne laying on the bed in a pair of boxers and a bra. Billie Joe kneeled down next to her and rested his ear on her stomach.

"Come on ever here." said Billie Joe flashing a smile.

Adrienne hoisted her self on her elbows holding her stomach out.

"We've been lying here all day. We've been watching him move." she said.

The interviewer from the Rolling Stone did what Billie Joe said and he felt Joey kick in Adrienne's stomach. Then they got on to the interview. The reporter asked many questions pertaining to Woodstock Billie Joe responded to that as

"I never thought being obnoxious would get e to where I am right now."

Billie Joe told him about the hate letter from the parent and everything. The interviewer asked questions pertaining to how he acts and him now having a son on the way. When the reporter asked this question for a second Billie Joe thought back to when Adrienne and him first bought the house. They were both sitting there feeling the baby kick when Billie Joe had a though burst in his head.

"Holy shit we are going to be responsible for this human life that we made." Billie Joe told Adrienne.

"Yes that WE created and will cherish." she said.

Now back to the interview. Billie Joe responded to this as

"I don't want to grow up too fast. And I don't think that being married and having a kid mean that I have to "grow up". My biggest fear is becoming domestic. It seems like when people get married they don't want to have fun anymore. I really want to walk around the streets with Adie. We like to Dumpster dive. That's the fun and funniest thing in the world." said Billie Joe.

"Also I want to teach my son sensitivity. Not to be this macho freak." said Billie Joe.

The reporter was witting down while Billie Joe talked then he asked about when Adrienne and Billie Joe got married. Billie Joe let out a small laugh and smiled a bit.

"I was really nervous so I started bounding down beers and so did Adrienne. Our ceremony lasted 5 minutes. Neither of us were any religion, so we pieced together speeches. One catholic, one Protestant, one Jewish. It was a lot of fun. Then we went to the Claremont Hotel for our honeymoon and fucked like bunnies." said Billie Joe. The reporter smiled as Billie Joe began to talk faster.

"Then the next day Adrienne had said she had been feeling funny, so she went down the street to a pharmacy to get a pregnancy test, and well it came out positive and now were waiting for it to come." said Billie Joe. Then the reporter asked how a song comes about, like mass destruction(Referring to "Having a Blast"), self loathing and insanity( Referring to "Basket Case"), hatred of the older class (Referring to "Burnout"), and just about boredom and masturbation (referring to "Longview")

"I blow things out of proportion." said Billie Joe.

"When you dwell on something for a really long time, that happened's. Like say you hate somebody, and you sit and think about every single possible way you could kill them. Your like 'I fucking Hate them' 'I fucking hate them' that's what I like to write about. Blow it out of proportion and the come back later and think " that's kind of silly" It's a good way to get over it fast." said Billie Joe

The reporter was going to be with all of Green Day all day leading up to that night were they were performing at an arena in LA.

The reporter interviewed both Mike and Tre as well. All of them explained their childhhod. Like Mike explaining how he was born to a heroin addict mother, Billie Joe's dad dying of cancer when he was 10, and Tre growing up in a small town where he lived with no electricity and how he was in the lookouts with Larry Livermore and what not. Also they told about how they were exiled from the Gilman and how the "sold out" and how they could never really go back. Billie Joe told the reporter about Gilman.

"
That place saved my life. It was just a gathering of social outcasts and freaks, it wasn't about people moshing in a pit and taking their shirt off. That's one thing that I hate about mainstream thing its blaint violence. We get lumped into this bandwagon of this fucked-up mentality. To me punk was about being goofy, bringing a carpet to Gilman Street and rolling your friends up in it and spinning in circles, or having a pit with people on tricycles or big wheels. The whole thing was a serious message to people, but at the same time silly, and people weren't afraid to talk about love. It's different now." said Billie Joe

"Someone a while back gave us a flyer that said 'Tell Green Day to fuck off for bringing MTV to our scene' and I have never seen one TV punk clubs we've played in. I think your mother and father need to take your cable away, is what they need to do." said Mike.

Tre of course had to say something "we want to write our own rock book. It's going to be called 'Insults to Injury' Its going to list all the injury's we've had over the past year.

Billie Joe added "Ya for starters Mike developed a heart problem. His mitral valve is too big, and sometimes someone is stabbing him in the chest. It's mostly form stress, but the fact that he was born to a heroin probably has something to do with it. Then Mike broke his teeth at Woodstock and had to have emergency oral surgery. I tore a ligament in my ankle and I just got out of a brace. Tre was drunk and got in a motorcycle accident when we were in Spain once, Mike got in a pillow fight with his girlfriend and broke his arms and had whiplash and six stitches in his head. Tre was drunk (again) and fell out of our van in San Diego. Mike broke his finger not to long ago...... It always ceases to amaze me. I think the only thing that could fuck up our band even more would be some freak accident with a vacuum cleaner." Joked Billie Joe.

As Green Day was backstage the members of Bad Religion stopped by and some Green Days friends came for awhile. The reporter was still observing them and everything. Billie Joe was acting like a five year old at a parents party talking quickly moving from one person to the next. He settled down a few minutes later in a corner sharing a chair with Adrienne. Tre who was bouncing off the walls from sitting next to his girlfriend to darting over to the cooler for a beer, then walked out to the hallway for a bit, then back to his girlfriend, then wonders outside to smoke a joint then settles back down next to his girlfriend. Then Tre started talking to the reporter about drugs and what not.

"When people bring weed to our shows, that's awesome. I'm like the guinea pig. If someone throws a bag of weed onstage , Billie will watch and make sure we don't get fucked up or anything, but I go right for it." said Tre. Then Mike chimed in on his feeling on drugs and also explained how the bass line for "Longview" came about.

"One night Billie gave me a shuffle beat for "Longview" I was flying on acid so fucking hard. I was laying up against the wall with my bass on my lap, and it just came to me I said to Billie Joe 'Billie check this out. Isn't this the wackiest fucked up weird thing you've ever heard?" Later after I recovered from my high and everything it took me forever to remember and be able to play it, but it made sense when I was on drugs. To me everyone should try acid at least once in their life. Well, actually some people don't exactly have the right personality for it, but it is an important thing though." said Mike.

Billie Joe of course came in:

"I think actually at the moment I have sort of an alcohol problem. I drink everyday, and I use it kind of like a crutch to relax me . I'm not abusive, I just think sometimes I drink a little too much. the main thing for us is, well Tre loves pot but the main choice is speed. People think that we are this big pot smoking band even though we sound like amphetamine band, but I dabbed a lot in speed for a long time. That was the drug of choice from the scene I came from." Billie Joe told the reporter.

Mike however was letting everyone kind of come to him to talk. Mike was kind of the member of Green Day who was most at ease that was until a "friend" congratulated him on a sold out show when Mike was out hanging and talking with the fans for a bit. Some one came up to Mike as he was walking back to go inside and said

"Fifteen thousand people at this arena......this is everything you ever dreamed of" said the man sarcastically as Mike was walking away. Mike turned around and said

"Correction, it's everything I NEVER dreamed of." he said as he walked back inside to join the others.

Many people were under the impression that Green Day was "rich" of course they had a hell of a lot more money then they did back before "Dookie" came out, but they lost out on a lot of money by playing at large arenas and refusing to make ticket prices any higher then 10-15 dollars. They bought the things they needed for instance Tre bought health insurance and a house. The only really good thing that they bought for themselves was that they bought nice equipment like new instruments and what not, instead of playing with amps that would catch on fire or something they had nicer stuff.

It was time for Green Day to get on stage Billie Joe was in a lavender brown clown type of suite, yelling expletives to the crowd. He played the guitar he had had since he was 10 yrs old tilted vertically, his arm pounding it violently and every once in a while his face would twitch.

They started out with an older song "2,000 light years away" then into newer stuff like "Chump". Mike would leap around the stage constantly not stopping until he had to do some back up vocals. As everyone was moshing and what not they went into "Basket Case", "Having a Blast", "Burnout" and they did a new song that they wrote called "Armatage Shanks". Then going back going back to some old stuff like "Going to Pasalacqua" and "409 in your Coffee Maker.". Billie Joe would inch up towards the edge of the stage. Billie Joe yelled out at some random dude in the crowd

"Hey you macho, homophobic shithead, fuck you! No seriously, FUCK YOU" he screamed and then running across the stage.

After the show they went back to the hotel everyone they were all exhausted. Tre smoked some pot that someone threw on stage. Mike went straight to sleep. Billie Joe and Adrienne did the same they were both exhausted.
