And Love Said No, chapter 5
"Whats the bad news?" Tre asked slightly concerned.
"Well I'm afraid that lump that was found in your neck was cancerous, I'm terribly sorry"
Tre leaned back against the wall, he could barely breathe the word cancer kept repeating in his mind.
"Tre?" it was the doctores voice on the phone that brought Tre back to reality.
"Yeah"
"I've arranged an appointment for you at 2'oclock Monday morning is that Ok?"
"Yeah" was all Tre could manage to say before he hung up.
Tre staggered back into the living room, he looked like he had just seen a ghost.
"I'm going to go get some fresh air" said Tre.
"I'll come" said Mel, trying to catch up with Tre who was already out of the door. Tre was half way down the street before she caught up. He was looking straight ahead.
"Tre, your walking really fast" said Mel breathlessly trying to keep up with Tre. But Tre was in a world of his own and couldn't even hear her.
"Tre?"
Tre shook his head and looked over at Mel, he gave a brief smile before returning to his look of concentration.
They walked together for a while not really talking, they walked along the beach, Tre was glad it was empty he could think more.
Mel was confused Tre kept sighing turning to her like he was going to say something then deciding not to.
"Tre is there something you want to say to me?" said Mel, Tre gazed at her debating the thought in his head, he decided he would tell her.
He was unsure how to say it so he said it blatantly simple.
"Don't tell anyone please but I've got cancer" even as he said the words tears formed in his eyes, and Mel's eyes showed she was holding back tears.
They stared at eachother for a moment and Mel pulled Tre into a big hug. He just cried on her shoulder for a while. When his tears were calmed to sobs Mel decided it was time to go back home.
The others looked suprised to see Tre crying again especially Claudia and Frankito, she was going to ask what was wrong but Billie shot her a 'Don't' look.
Mike and Billie went with Mel upstairs to try and help calm there best friend.
When they got upstairs Tre was once again asleep on the bad exhausted from all the depression he had felt today.
Mel walked downstair with Mike and Billie Joe to tell unsure wether to tell them or not. Tre had asked her not to but they had a right to know. After half an hour of debating it she decided to tell them.
"Guys, Tre told me he has cancer" she said everyone looked shocked and upset.
"You promised" stuttered someone behind her, it was Tre he ran out of the house not really caring where he was going he just needed to get away.
