Sometimes You Feel Like a Nut, chapter 1
I am finally free! I had been dreaming of this day since the summer before my sophmore year in high school. That summer I had decided to move to Oakland after college to get away form all my friends, family, and the no where town in the no where state I had lived in my whole life. Now I was in Oakland, getting out of my car staring at my new house.
I'd seen the house before, when I had come down to look at it, but now it seemed more like a home than just a house that I was going to be paying rent on for the next few years. It was a two story white house, with an adorable deck in front held to the house by big white collums. I sighed as I walked to the passenger side door to get one of the many boxes in my car. Being as uncoordinated as I am, I couldn't walk and carry the box at the same time very easily. Even at that, seeing the house made me smile; there was just something about it.
After I got all the boxes in the house, and treated all my cuts and scrapes, I decided to take a break and take advantage of the California sun. Tanning was the perfect way to escape from having to look at the boxes filling up what was going to be the living room while waiting for the movers to come with the rest of the stuff. It also gave me an excuse not to put ANYTHING away, which I was going to be putting off as long as I could. I'm a very lazy person, so I had a feeling I was going to be living out of boxes for awhile.
Anyway, I had to go through like three boxes just to find my bikini and it took around half an hour just to find my lounge, CDs, and CD player. I changed, grabbed a bottle of water out of my car, and went into the backyard to begin total relaxation. I popped out my lounge, put in my favorite CD, Kerplunk, and flopped down, finally feeling the warmth of the sun again.

I woke up, confused as usual, not realizing where I was... As usual. Apparently I had flipped over during my nap because my back was numb in pain. Being the dumbass I am, I never put on sunscreen, and I forgot to buy a bottle of Asprin before I left Oregon. I flipped onto my back, wincing in pain, got to my feet, and headed into the house to find my shoes. My only choice was to ask my neighbor if the had and Asprin to spare. Before leaving, I threw on my pants and shirt, in case my neighbors were uberly modest people. I really didn't want to offend anyone quite yet.
With my back stinging, I walked down the sidewalk a few feet to my neighbor's house. It was white, like mine, but MUCH bigger. I walked up to the door, a bit nervous, and rang the door bell. I waited forever before I finally heard foot steps coming to the door. I think I died when that door opened, but I'm not sure, it sure felt like it though. Standing before me was Adrienne. Yes, Adrienne Armstrong, Billie Joe's wife. I couldn't believe that I had just moved in next to Billie Joe and his family; a definate dream come true.
Not wanting to look too stupid, I decided I should probably say something, so I wouldn't creep her out or anything.
"Hey. I'm your new neighbor, Beth, sorry if I interupted anything." I said, wincing a bit as my shoulder had moved while I was talking.
"Oh, no, I was just in the kitchen. Sorry I didn't come sooner. Is everything OK?" Apparently she had noticed my wince, even if I had tried to hide it the best I could for some sick and twisted reason.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just need a butt load of Asprin. I fell asleep tanning and I forgot to get Asprin before I came down here. And I don't believe in sunscreen. I can be such a dumbass sometimes..."
"Oh, OK. Come on it and I'll get you some Asprin."
"Thanks."
I walked in and once again my breath was taken away. The house was even more gorgeous on the inside, and it looked even bigger, too.
"I'll be right back." Adrienne said as she headed upstairs. I stood in the hallway, awestruck over the house.
I heard someone coming down the stairs after years of standing there and I hoped terribly that it was Adrienne with the beloved Asprin. My back was still searing, so much that I ended up having to take my shirt off. I still had on my bikini top, remember, so it's not like it was that big of a deal. I looked up to see who was coming down. For an instant I was dissapointed it wasn't Adrienne, but after seeing who it was, my heart started POUNDING. I had waited for this moment for years, and now it was happening! I was going to meet Billie Joe!
"Oh, Hi. You must be the new neighbor. It's Beth right? Adrienne'll be down in a minute." He walked passed my and opened the door as I just smiled and nodded. He turned around and yelled "I'll be home late," to Adrienne, then turned to me and said "Nice tattoo." refering to the infinity symbol I had on my right shoulder and walked out the door. I had totally forgotten I had even gotten a tatoo, since I had just gotten it before I moved down here. I new I was forgetting something... I should've asked if they had any lotion, too. Of course I had forgotten to pack that, too. Jeez, where did I learn to be such a dumbass?
Adrienne came down soon with the Asprin, and, as if she had read my mind, had brought lotion down, too. I guess I looked puzzled on how she knew 'cause she said "Billie called and told me you back looked pretty bad and that you had a new tattoo that should probably get something put on it soon. Come on in the kitchen so you can get something to take these with."
"Thank you so much." I said as I followed her into the kitchen.
I loved their kitchen instantly. It was just one of those kitchens that made you feel at home the moment you walked into it. In fact, it made me feel so at home that I had to blink back a few tears at the thought of home. Even though if had been my choice and my choice alone to move to Oakland, I couldn't help feeling a bit homesick. I mean, I had lived in the same place for 22 years. Wouldn't you get homesick? I got over it fast, though, still not wanting to creep out Adrienne.
"What do you want to drink?"
"Water'll be fine."
She handed me a glass of water and a couple of Asrpin. I thanked her, and gulped down the water. I asked her how my back was looking and we both decided that I need the lotion on it fast. It was getting redder by the minute, and I didn't want my tattoo to get all ooky. She helped my get the lotion on the tattoo, since it was in the only place on my back I couldn't reach. After that, we just talked about everything. We talked about everything from how her and Billie Joe had met to how I ended up coming to Oakland. She was the sweetest person I had met in a long time, and in a way, she reminded my a lot of my mom my sisters all smooshed together. She reminded me so much them, that I ended up calling my mom. My mom didn't approve of me moving to Oakland, but she wasn't going to stop me. She knew that I had wanted to do this forever and that nothing was going to stop me. After I called my mom, my cell phone started ringing.
