That night when Adrienne got home she placed her purse on a table in the hallway and collapsed onto the sofa. Her day had turned out better than expected, she had left the shopping mall with a number and a promise of dinner that Friday night. He seemed charming and nice, maybe this could develop into something serious. There was something different about this man, something that Adrienne couldn't quite place yet but something that caught her interest and made her curious. She wanted to know more about him. After seeing that there was nothing worth watching on the TV she decided just to have a shower and go to bed.

"Anything come of the description?" Billie Joe asked Mike non hopefully as he already knew what the answer would be.
"Nothing" Mike sighed, he has almost become resigned to the possibility that they may never catch the most elusive killer he had ever been assigned to stop but he had to keep believing that soon there would be a break in the case and it would all be over, the killer would be off the streets and the world an ever so slightly safer place.
"Don't worry, he'll slip up and we'll have him, I'm positive. They always do. A clue is always left behind, somewhere and we'll find" Billie Joe said, trying to convince himself as well as Mike. For the first time in his career he didn't truly believe what he was saying, there was always that niggling fear at the back of his mind, he could clearly picture the unsolved written in bold, red letters across the box containing the very little evidence that he had recovered from this case. More than any other time did he want to be able to announce that the case was closed.
Billie Joe gave up for that day and headed home. When he got there he headed straight to cupboard where he kept all his alcohol and poured himself a much needed scotch. It wasn't his drink of choice, in fact, as he downed the glass he wondered why he even had, how had he acquired it but it was the only thing strong enough to make him feel at ease if only for a few precious moments. Billie's job was stressful and during times like these very frustrating. It was the same for everyone involved in law enforcement. The injustices that they were forced to face on so many occasions. Everyone needed a way to cope, to escape and leave the job behind but this was easier said than done. Billie Joe hadn't had a decent night sleep since the killings had become, his mind was always active, always focused and thinking about them. There must be something that he could do but at the present time he knew there was nothing. He poured an other drink and took it in to the living room. An urge had come over Billie Joe to phone Adrienne. He wanted to hear her voice, talk to her, know that she was thinking about him and focusing all her attention on him and no one else in the world at that moment. He picked up his phone and stared at the number pad. It was late, it probably wasn't a good idea to call. He sighed and replaced the phone back on top of the receiver. It would just have to wait till work the next day.
