Why Do Bad Things Always Happen to Us?, chapter 3
I woke up to the sound of an alarm. I turned it off and yawned and rubbed my eyes. Lexi had only rolled over and changed her sleeping style on the bed. I laughed and looked out the window the see the sky gray and cloudy. It was probably gonna storm, and even though I had to walk to school I didn't mind. For some reason, I liked storms.
"Lexi." I said.
"...Wha...?" She said as she rolled to face me and yawned.
"It's time to get up." I said again.
"I didn't hear the alarm clock." She said.
I sighed. "That's because I turned it off!" I said getting annoyed and pushed her onto her back.
"Will you just get up!" I said as I walked to the bathroom to wash off my face.
"Yeah, yeah..." Lexi said as she yawned and sat up a little. She always had trouble getting up.
The cold water felt good as I splashed it on my face. It woke me up and.. just.. felt good. Ever felt that way before? It was refreshing. I grabbed a towel and as I was drying off my face my sister came in. She looked very tired because her hair was all messy and her eyes were barely opened. I started to laugh and put my towel on the towel holder still giggling a little bit.
"What're you laughing at?" She said as she noticed my lauhing.
"Oh.. nothing. You look nice this morning I said as I chuckled.
"Do I?" She looked in the mirror then back at me with a glare.
"Very funny Stephany! Now get dressed and get out. I gotta go pee!" She said as she pushed me out of the bathroom and closed the door.
I laughed and walked to my room and looked in my closet. I looked at the window and there were some droplets of rain on the window. I smiled and got a grey t-shirt with a brown teddy bear that said 'I'm no ones little girl...' and some kapris. I may be raining but was still gonna be a little hot. I was changing my cloths and had my shirt and pants on when my sister walked in. I went to my dresser to get some socks. "Great.. it's raining. I was gonna wear a skirt today. I don't know what you like about rain." She said.
'Me neither.' I thought to myself. Lexi was a girly girl while I was more tom boyish. I wore girl cloths mind you but things that weren't well, very girly. I saw my sister grab some jeans and a tank top and a sweater. That reminded me that I should get one as well. I grabbed my grey sweater and was heading to the bathroom when Lexi said "Where yah going?" I looked at her.
"To the bathroom to brush my hair. Why?" I asked curiously.
"Oh nothing. You just look a little down. You okay?" She asked.
"Yeah." I lied. I wasn't okay. Last night was still swarming in my head.
She looked at me and sighed and I went into the bathroom. After brushing it I just looked at it. I had long blonde hair like my sister. We get it from our mother. Our mother... that's something I could've gone the day without talking about. I missed her. So much. Me and my sister both got our green eyes from her. STOP IT! Why was I torturing myself? Just shut up, Stephany. You're probably never gonna see her again. Get over it!
"Stephany?" My sister said.
I jumped. I was so lost in my thoughts I hadn't noticed her watching me stare at myself in the mirror.
"Uh.. yeah?" I said putting my hand through my hair as if nothing was wrong.
"What were you doing?"
"Just... uh.. looking at my hair deciding what to do with it. I'm just gonna put it in a low pony-tail."
She sighed. "How come you never put your hair up higher?" She asked.
"Because I don't like it like that." I said.
"Why?"
"Because I don't." I said getting a little frustrated.
"You know that made no sense."
"So?"
"You don't make sense either." She laughed.
I smiled and put my hair in a low pony-tail like I said I would. I looked at the clock. We still had about 20 minutes before we had to leave. My stomach growled. My sister laughed. I guess I was hungry. I went into the kitchen while my hair was putting her hair in a bun or something and got out milk, a bowl, spoon, and some cereal. My sister came in and poured herself some and we ate in silence.
"Cherrios is your favorite cereal isn't it?" She said out of no where.
I nodded and took another bite, nearly done. Normally I'm a slow eater. I guess I really was hungry. Weird. My sister always ate fast so she was almost done as well. Something else we don't have in common. The only things we had in common were hair color, eye color, DNA, blood, and uhh parents. Hmm.. parents.. mother. Stop it! I groaned about me saying mother when I'm trying to keep my mind off her. I finished my cereal and my sister looked at me oddly.
"What?" I asked.
"What's the matter with you?" She asked looking at me oddly still.
"What're you talking about? Nothings wrong with me." I said raising my eyebrow.
"You know damn well what I'm talking about Stephany. The staring into blank space at yourself in the mirror. That fact that you ate at the same speed as me when you're the slowest eater in the world. Your silence and the fact that you just groaned out of no where." She said.
I rolled my eyes. "I'm fine. Stop worrying." I said.
She laughed. "Let's go. Get your stuff and let's get walking."
I nodded and went into our room and looked at my book bag. Why do I keep mentioning... you know who. It didn't make any sense. Nothing made sense a lot. Was anything ever gonna make sense again? I had no idea. All I knew is that I had 2 new friends, a nice sister, a bad father, no mother, and a nearly done room. That didn't seem like a lot but right now I wasn't sure if I wanted to be sure of anything else.
"Lexi." I said.
