Why Do Bad Things Always Happen to Us?, chapter 5
My new life in California was going pretty good. But, only on the outside. Inside I wasn't doing too well. Inside my house and inside my soul.
The day was over and it was Friday. I was happy. No school, who wouldn't be? But then again, that means I have to be home. I should stop thinking so negative. But it was hard not too.
"Steph, come on." My sister called me.
I looked at Lexi and then looked back at Billie Joe and Mike.
"I guess I'll see you guys Monday." I said.
"Bye" Mike said.
"Yeah, bye, Steph." Billie Joe said.
I ran over to Lexi and we began heading home. I really didn't feel like going home.
Before I knew it though we were home. I must have been in very deep thought because I could've sworn we had just left the school. Oh well. Doesn't matter. Lexi and I entered the room to be shocked. Our dad wasn't drunk. He was sitting at the kitchen table reading the newspaper. He ran up to me and was smiling all big.
"Lexi, guess what?!" He said.
"Umm, what?" I asked somewhat scared of how my father was acting.
"I finished your room. It's done. I wasn't able to move all your stuff in there but I did get your bed and dressers and stuff like that. I figured you could do your cloths and music and uhh stuff like that." He said finally putting me down.
All I could do was smile. I gave my father the first hug I had given him in a while. I was happy. My room was done and I could finally have some privacy and not have to worry about my sister as much. I loved her of course but privacy is something everyone needs. Especially me.
I ran to my room and looked at it. It was blue and just beautiful. I loved blue. I loved dark colors and this room was just perfect. I asked everyone to leave because I wanted to be alone in my room. First, though, I went and got all my stuff in there and put my cloths and music away. I layed in my bed and drifted into sleep, in my bed, in my room.

The next morning was quiet. I ran to the bathroom and took a shower then I changed quickly into jeans and a t-shirt. Dad wasn't here and Lexi was still asleep. It was weird that I had woken up so early. After taking my show I had some cereal and then sat on the porch swing and just watched cars go by and enjoyed myself.
I was in my own thoughts when I heard Mike and Billie Joe call my name.
"Oh, hey guys. How did you know where I lived?" I asked.
"Well, we always see which way you guys go home and we figured we'd keep walking until we saw you. And we saw you so, yeah. We figured that was your house." Billie Joe said as they both walked onto the porch.
I laughed and so did they. We talked for a while and just hung out. I really liked their company. They were my best friends. But I couldn't help but feel more for Billie Joe. He was just so sweet to me and adorable. I know that might sound cliche or whatever but it's true. I don't think my feelings for him will ever change. No matter how many years we're friends.
And you know something?
