The Homecoming Of Whatsername, chapter 1

Tre Cool was hot, sweaty, exhausted- and had never felt happier. It was his seventeenth birthday, and his new band, Green Day, had almost finished their first proper set since Tre had replaced Al Sobrante, at 924 Gilman Street. The crowd- THEIR crowd was going absolutely ape-shit crazy. This night could not get better. Or so he thought.
Obviously, Tre had not seen the gorgeous blonde girl standing by the bar. None of the band had. But she had definitely seen them.
'GILMAN STREET! ' howled Billie-Joe Armstrong, Green Day's lead singer and guitarist, into the Mike. 'As you probably know, it's our drummer Tre Cool's birthday today! So, before he performs some solos for you all, I need Mike' he pointed at the bassist, 'To give me a baseline' The bassist, Mike nodded and began to pluck at his guitar strings. Billie- Joe nodded back, before flinging out his arm to the audience. 'Now, you guys have to sing with me after three. Ready? One, two, one two three... ' All the people in the cramped, sweaty hall began to chant along with Billie- Joe:
'Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Trrreeeeeeeee! Happy birthday to YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUU! ' Tre was beaming from behind his drum kit, conducting the song with a drumstick in either hand. It was a tribute, not only to the seventeenth year of Tre's life, but to Billie-Joe's amazing talent- who else could get 150+ metal-head punks to sing along to 'Happy Birthday? '
'OK, fuck the corporate cheese! ' shrieked Tre, yanking the microphone from Billie-Joe. 'Here's some cheese I wrote myself! ' He proceeded to launch into a very energetic rendition of 'Dominated Love Slave' a song he had just written last week.
The girl at the bar couldn't help but let her full lips curve into a big smile, flashing pearl white teeth at the lunatic on the stage.
'He always did get hyper when people pay too much attention to him. ' She explained to the hot young barman. The barman, who quite liked this new band, looked impressed.
'Oh really? So do you know him well then? ' he asked, meaning -was she dating him? But her answer took his breath away. The girl looked at the ice cubes melting in her glass, up at Tre still bounding around the stage, and back at the barman. She smiled gently.
'Kinda. ' she said, thoughtfully. 'He's my twin brother. '

Half an hour later, Green Day left the stage to enthusiastic applause and cheering. Well, Mike and Billie Joe left the stage. Tre was still crowd surfing around the room.
'Should we grab him and go pack up, or leave him and go pack up? ' Mike asked Billie- Joe. Billie-Joe considered for a moment.
'Nah, it's his birthday and he's looks like he's having fun. Give me your guitar and I'll stick 'em in the van if you get some drinks. '
''Kay. See ya in a minute. ' Mike passed his guitar to Billie-Joe and headed for the bar. Tre spotted him as the crowd swept him passed.
'Yo, Mike- I'll meet you at the bar! ' he called. Mike raised his hand and waved at his best friend. There was no point in speaking- the next band had started up, and Tre had already gone, anyway. Neither of them had noticed the blonde girl yet. She had slipped outside just as Billie Joe had.

Billie-Joe hummed softly as he carefully placed his and Mike's guitars into the beaten up old van they used. It wasn't much to look at- the word 'Bookmobile' emblazoned the sides, and the whole van could use a clean, but it got them from one gig to the next, and that's what counted. Billie-Joe slammed the door shut, and took a deep breath. Tonight had been just what he needed. He had just split up with Raquel Hunter, the prettiest girl at their high school. They had been dating for about eighteen months, since Frankie had moved to LA, and he knew he wasn't in love with Raquel, but it still hurt.
'Good set tonight. Beej. ' A soft, female voice spoke behind him. Billie- Joe stiffened. He knew that voice. Only one person, one girl, could ever get away with calling him Beej, and she was in LA. Wasn't she? He turned around slowly. The girl was standing half- hidden in the shadows.
'Frankie? ' he asked he'sitantly. The blonde girl from the bar stepped forward, holding out her arms in a 'here I am' kind of way, a smile playing about her full lips.
'The one and only. ' Before she had even finished her sentence, Billie-Joe had caught her in a tight embrace. It wasn't long before she tilted her head to his, and their lips met in the soft, sweet passionate kiss that Billie-Joe knew, remembered and had never shared with Raquel. And they both knew, both Billie-Joe and Frankie knew, that nothing had changed between them.
