You erased yourself, so shut up!, chapter 3
"So, where was I?" Tre asked as they settled themselves down in the limo for the hour's drive into San Fransisco. "Oh yeah, I was sitting out on the bleachers..."
Tre was still sitting on his own on the bleachers, about fifteen minutes before the end of lunch, not thinking about anything in particular, when Jessie finally turned up.
"Hey Tre, dude, I am so sorry I took so long. What you doing sitting out here?"
"Football team started on me 'cos I was on my own." Tre looked up. "How did you know I was out here, and why are you late?"
"Old Soggy kept me in detention; I blew up the third Bunsen this week. I saw you from the window."
"Oooh, how long d'you reckon it'll be before she works out this is a campaign, and we're not going to be stopped, no matter how many times she puts us in detention?"
Jessie laughed, and sat down next to tre, and they both tucked into their lunches.
"So what you doing tomorrow?" the drummer asked.
"Oh, I'm, em, I'm away tomorrow. Why?"
"No reason, was just wondering. It doesn't matter anyway; I'm grounded."
"No way! Your dad actually grounded you?"
"Well, not as such, I'm not allowed into Gilman, but I can still go round to Larry's, I need to move the new parts of my kit to my house. I need to practice." the young man's eyes lit up. "I never told you my news, did I?"
Jessie shook his head. "Nope. So what is it?"
"You know that band we like from Gilman, Green Day? Well, John's left, and they've asked me if I'll go drum for them! We have our first practice next weekend!"
"Cool," his friend said, though Tre couldn't help but notice he didn't seem as excited about it as he usually did; after all, they practically lived for their time in Gilman.
Tre glanced at his watch; they had five minutes yet.
"So, where you off to tomorrow?"
"Oh, just some sports thing my mum's entered me for," his friend gabbled. "She seems to think it will make me popular."
Tre snorted. "like you'll ever want to be one of the jocks."
Jessie joined in with his laughter, but again, he didn't seem convinced.
"Well, I'll phone you tomorrow night, and maybe we could meet up on Sunday?"
"Oh, no can do I'm afraid; I'm away to my grandma's on Sunday."
"Oh, ok," Tre said as the bell rang for afternoon classes. "Well, I'll see you Monday then."
"Yeh, later Tre."
Jessie hurried off, leaving Tre sitting thinking to himself. He was still there when the second bell went. Seeing as he was now late for class, he decided not to go, and instead spent the afternoon sitting all alone, just thinking.
"So you reckon he was lying then? I mean, you seemed pretty sure straight away."
"I wasn't sure he was lying Mike, I was just a bit put out, 'cos that was the fifth weekend in a row he was 'unavailable', and he had started turning up late for lunch nearly everyday, as he continuously 'got detention'. He may have been lying, I dunno, well, I do now, I found out for sure later, but my friend faith thought the same when I phoned her that night...."
