You erased yourself, so shut up!, chapter 4
Tre's dad noticed there was something wrong as soon as his son walked through the door that evening; Tre went straight to his room without even saying hello. Frank got up, and went through, sitting on the end of Tre's bed will the drummer buried his head in his pillow.
"Crap day then Frankie?"
"Yup."
"Wanna talk about it?"
"Nope."
"You sure? I mean, there may not be anything I can do about it, but you might feel better sharing the problem."
His son sat up, eyes red from crying. Frank snr. put his arm round Tre, and hugged him close.
"So, what is it? Is it Jessie again?"
Tre nodded.
"Wait a minute, you were crying over this? Whoa!"
"Mike, seriously, will you shut up!"
"Sorry Billie, it's just...oh, nevermind."
"He says he's away again this weekend, and he turned up late for lunch because he had a 'detention'. I dunno what to do Dad, I don't know if he's lying to me or not, but I feel like I'm losing him; we hardly spend any time together anymore."
"I know, it's hard, but it's all part of growing up." He smiled at the scowl on the drummer's face. "I know you hate to hear that, but believe me, if you two are meant to fall out and lose touch, that's just the way it has to be. I mean, look at me and Jeff; we're best friends, but he lives up in Maryland, and how often do I get to see him."
Tre smiled meekly, wiping his eyes on his sleeve. His dad hugged him again.
"That's more like it, that's the Frank I know. Tell you what, if it'll make you feel better, you can phone Faith after dinner; she phoned for you earlier, but you'd already left."
"Thanks Dad."
Frank snr. got up and made to leave the room.
"Dad!"
"Yes Frank?"
"I love you."
"I love you too." and he left with a smile.
"Your dad is so cool Tre, you are so lucky!"
"I know, he was always there for me, no matter what. Anyway, later that night, I did phone Faith..."
"Hello, Jeff Anderson here, how may I help you?"
"Hi Jeff, It's Frank here, Frank Wright jnr.?"
"Oh, yes, hi, how are you?"
"I'm fine thank you. May I speak to Faith?"
"Sure, i'll just go and get her, hang on a moment."
Tre's sister walked into the room while he was waiting, and pulled a face at him.
"Who are you phoning? Not Jessie surely?"
"No, Faith. Now go away."
"ooh, someone's grumpy!"
He threw a pillow at her, and she stormed out.
"Damn big sisters..." Tre muttered, than hears a voice at the other end of the phone.
"Oh my god, Tre, it's you!"
"Hey Faith, how are you sweetheart?"
"I'm, great thanks, yourself?"
"I'm ok I suppose."
"You suppose? What's up? Is it Jessie again?"
Tre grinned to himself; he loved having Faith to talked to, she always had time to listen. He told her everything, and she just listened, only interrupting to clarify a point. When he had finshed, there was a moment of silence.
"So what do you reckon I should do?"
"I dunno Tre, I honestly don't honey. I reckon he's lying, I mean, ok, I can understand him visiting his grandma ever Sunday, but if he usually hangs out with you every Saturday, then suddenly has plans every week, there's something going on."
"I love you Faith, I knew you'd understand. I'll give him another chancs, see what's really going on, and if he is lying to me, well, I'll deal with it however seems fit."
He paused, and heard her giggle downt he phone.
"So, what's been happening in your life?"
"You don't know? You haven't been told? Oh, have I got news for you!"
