You erased yourself, so shut up!, chapter 7

It was Monday morning, and, as usual, Tre was running late.
"Frank, will you get a move on? We have to pick up Faith, and we can't have her being late on her first day!"
"Coming dad!"

"Now that sounds familiar."
"Billie, you told me to shut up interrupting, now you're at it. Be quiet!"
"Oooh, ok Mr. Dirnt, didn't mean to upset you! jeez!"
"Guys, Shut up!"
"Sorry Tre." They said in unison.

Monday morning went like a breeze. Faith was to be in all of Tre's classes, including homeroom, so they were both high as kites. At least, they were, until they got to lunch....
"So where is this Jessie then?" Faith asked Tre through a mouthful of sandwich as they sat at his usual table.
"I dunno. Probably got a...."
"Hey is that him over there?"
"Where?"
"Over there, beside that big guy, they're both wearing bomber jackets..."
Tre's jaw dropped. "Holy shit, that is him! What is he doing talking to the jocks?"
As though they had heard him, the football team decided to walk over.
"Aw, guys, look, ain't that too goddam cute; the little drummer boy's got a girl, and look, they're both freaks!"
The whole team started laughing, including, to Tre's dismay, Jessie. Faith wasn't standing for it though.
"Do they do this to you all the time?" She whispered to Tre. When he nodded, she got to her feet; even then, at 5'6", she was at least half a foot smaller than the smallest guy.
"What is your problem?"
"Excuse me? Who do you think you are, talking to me like that?"
"I'm Faith Anderson, and I was about to ask you the same question. What makes you think you can come over here and talk to my best friend like that?" She turned to Jessie. "And you, you're Jessie, aren't you?"
"So what if I am?"
She didn't answer; at least, not verbally. He stumbled backwards as she punched him square in the face.
"That's for all you've done to Tre, you goddam son of a bitch!"
"Wiah, Faith, sweetie, calm down." Tre mumbled, completely shocked. They watched as the jocks got Jessie back to his feet, and he pulled out a hankerchief to clean up the blood.
"You're gonna pay for that you dirty little whore!"
"Faith, RUN!"
Tre grabbed her hand and they sprinted from the room, hurtled down teh corridor and burst through the outside door.
"Where...are...we...going?" Faith panted at Tre as she struggled to keep up with him.
"Just follow me, I know somewhere even Jessie won't think of looking for me!"
They didn't stop ruinning until they reached the science block. Tre jumped up on top ogf the dumpster and pulled down a ladder.
"Quick, up here."
Once they were both on the roof, he pulled up teh ladder, and collapsed next to Faith.
"that was too damn close; promise me you won't do that again?"
"I promise Tre, I'm sorry, I was just so annoyed, after all you've told me, to see him there..."
"It's ok, I understand."
They sat getting their breathe back as the bell rang. Faith made to get up, but Tre pulled her back down.
"Tre, the bell..."
"Don't be daft, we can't go back down there; they'll jump us, or get the principal on us. Don't worry, no-one will know we're up here."
"If you say so."
They sat in silence for a moment, Faith playing with bunches, Tre watching the kids pile back into class.
"Hey, Faith."
"Yeah Tre?"
"What you doing on Saturday?"
"Um, I dunno, why?"
"Well, you remember that band I took you to see last time you stayed with me?"
"Sweet Children?"
"Yeah, that's them. Well, they've changed their name to Green Day, and they haven't got a drummer, and they've asked me to fill in for them."
"Tre, that is so frekin' awesome."
"I know. Anyway....do you fancy coming to teh rehearsal with me on Saturday, then going to the movies or something later?"
"Like a date you mean?"
"If you want it to be..."
