We're Just Melodramatic Fools (Billie Joe Armstrong), chapter 2
~The Next Day At School~
"Skye!" I heard someone yell. I whirled around and saw Billie Joe coming towards me. I rolled my eyes, and kept on walking. Unfortunately, he was a fast runner and caught up to me.
"What's your problem?" He asked, slightly annoyed by my bitterness. I didn't answer. He didn't need to know why I was the way I was. He didn't even know me. "Skye, I want to be your friend. I want you to trust me...You can tell me anything, and I won't tell anyone." I sighed. This guy was making my heart melt. Again.
"Listen, I can't trust you. Not yet anyways." I mumbled. Billie Joe looked a bit hurt when I said that, so I had to recover quickly. "I just need to know you a bit more before I go spilling my guts, okay?" He nodded.
"Yeah. Okay."
We decided to skip school and go to Dairy Queen. There wasn't anything better to do anyways. (And no, skipping school with someone is NOT counted as trusting them. It's counted as getting to know them.)
"So, why'd you move to Cali anyways?"
"My mother decided that an apartment building wasn't the best place to raise a child." I muttered, speaking in mono-tone again. Bille Joe laughed a bit.
"You're...what? 17?" He asked.
"16."
"Close enough. That's not considered a child." I smiled at him. Finally, someone who understood. He smiled back at me. "You know, you're really pretty." He mumbled.
"What?" I asked. I honestly didn't know what he said. I spaced out a lot.
"Oh...uh...nothing." He was blushing really hard, so I had a feeling that he said something embarassing.
We left DQ, and walked around town for a while. Billie showed me all the places where he and his friends liked to hang out.
"You should meet the guys. They're really cool and-"
"I don't think that would be such a good idea. I'm not good with meeting new people." I said quietly.
-Billie Joe's Point of View-
Skye kept talking in mono-tone, and it was starting to bug me. She was so isolated. So distant. And no matter how much I tried, I couldn't get her to open up. It kind of worried me, because I knew that there was something very wrong with her, and she was scared to tell me what it was. When I looked her in the eyes, I didn't see the anger that most people saw. I saw fear and depression. It made me wonder what she saw when she looked into my eyes...if she ever did.
"Well, I guess you don't have to meet the guys then." I mumbled disapointedly. I was really hoping that she would want to though, because I knew that she didn't have any friends, and it made me feel bad. I didn't want Tre and Mike to be mercy friends or anything. Skye didn't need mercy friends. She needed real friends. And I knew that Tre and Mike would like her. But I doubted that she would like them, and that was a problem.
"I'm sorry I'm not much fun." She suddenly said.
"Skye-"
"I know I'm not much fun to be around, and I know you're just trying to help...but I'm beyond helping, Billie Joe. No one can ever help me."
