Jealous Jamiee and the Unattainable Billie Joe, chapter 1
Jamiee-Leigh Austin was walking down the deserted street with her head down, when she heard the echo of a rock bouncing around on the sidewalk. She looked up and saw a really cute looking guy with dark, wavy hair walking on the other side of the street, with his head down. She kicked a rock back at him, hoping he would look up and notice her. Jamiee was the boy crazy kind of girl, and would do just about anything to get a guy's attention. Much to Jamiee's delight, he looked up at her and smiled. He had amazing emerald green eyes, and looked REALLY cute when he smiled. She smiled back, and was remotely disappointed when he looked down at his shoes again and kept walking. The boy didn't look much older than her, and was probably even her age (Grade 8). She didn't recognize him, so she figured that he was new to the area, and would probably be going to her school. Suddenly, she found herself actually looking forward to Monday! Jamiee spent the remainder of the weekend trying to find things to do to pass the time quickly.
On Monday morning, Jamiee woke up earlier, and spent an extra 20 minutes doing her hair and makeup, making sure she looked perfect, as to try to attract the boy's attention. She wasn't even sure if he was going to her school, but she decided not to take any chances. Jamiee had short, dirty blonde hair, which she spiked with black and pink coloured gel. She put on extra black eyeliner, and packed it into her bag, in case she needed a refresher during the day. She put on a black skirt, and a Ramones t-shirt, with some silver necklaces and studded bracelets. She wore her lucky rainbow toe socks, with her hot pink and black converse shoes. Checking in the mirror about a thousand times, from about a thousand different angles, she decided that she looked HOTT!
Jamiee's mom dropped her off at school, and Jamiee ran out to greet her group of friends, who always hung out near the front of the school, waiting for recess to end.
"JAMIEE!" yelled a voice, and before she knew it, her best friend Lizz had hopped up onto her back. " Hey, I didn't see you at all this weekend, what's up?" Lizz continued.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't really see anyone this weekend- except a really cute guy!" Jamiee replied, adding extra enthusiasm onto the last part.
"Really? Do tell!" Lizz egged her on. Jumping off Jamiee's back,
"Well, I saw him when I was walking down the street"
"Did you talk to him?" Lizz interrupted,
"No... "
"EUGH! JAMIEE!" Lizz exclaimed, " You become obsessed with every guy you see, then you never have the courage to go up and talk to them!"
"Well, he kind of kept walking... "
"Ok, tell me exactly what happened." Lizz commanded
"Ok. Well, I was looking down, then I heard him kick a stone, and I stopped and saw him and was like ' OMIGOSH! ' and so I kicked a stone back at him and he looked up at me and smiled and I smiled back then he put his head back down and kept walking... " Jamiee cried in one breath.
" Try breathing next time!" Lizz laughed, just as the bell rang.
Jamiee and Lizz didn't sit together in class. Lizz knew that Mr. Lyons had done that for a reason. In fact, Lizz didn't sit beside anyone. They were seated in double desks, and Lizz had the only empty seat in the class beside her. How exciting. Jamiee sat at the other end of the classroom- again, planned- so the only times her and Lizz could talk were at recesses. Mr. Lyons was already sitting at his desk, so they couldn't hang out at Lizz's desk until he came in. Damn. That meant that Jamiee couldn't get any advice out of her friend until recess. Mr. Lyons immediately dove into collecting all of their homework, so that they couldn't scramble anything down at recess if they hadn't finished. Jamiee scowled in jealousy at Lizz- who was blessed with the gift of perfect grades in every subject- as she pulled out her homework, which was bound to get 100%. Jamiee pulled out her own homework that she had struggled with the previous night, and was still barely half done. Jamiee was the teacher's pet, but that didn't mean she got good grades. Lizz and Jamiee's other best friend Ty, who Jamiee sat beside, looked over at her paper.
"Looks like you need a tutor" Ty grimaced
"Mr. Lyons spends almost half of every period helping me!" Jamiee cussed, extremely frustrated.
"Wow, really? Ya know, I could help you out a bit, ya know, so Mr. Lyons can help other people, too." Ty offered,
"Thanks, but you already kind of do." Jamiee laughed
"Oh... Yeah... " Ty smiled as Mr. Lyons came around to them to check their homework. Jamiee tried to look sweet and innocent so Mr. Lyons would give her a break, but it didn't really work.
"Well, Jamiee, I see I'm not really helping. Go to study hall some time today to try to finish it." Mr. Lyons looked disappointed. Jamiee cussed under her breath as Mr. Lyons moved on to another table. Study Hall was another word for detention, and Jamiee was really sick of it. She spent about 3 hours a night on homework, and still didn't get done! Maybe she should ask Lizz for help? She is after all, Jamiee's best friend. She settled on that, and snuck over to Lizz's desk while Mr. Lyons wasn't looking to ask her if she could help her out in study hall at recess, as Jamiee was sure she wouldn't finish if she was on her own. Lizz agreed, and Jamiee snuck back over to her desk.
Mr. Lyons was about 5 words into his English lesson when there was a knock on the door. He walked over and opened the door, and stepped out to talk to the principle for about 30 seconds. He came back in, followed by none other that the cute guy that Jamiee saw on the street! Jamiee just about had a heart attack and hissed Lizz's name about 5 times before she heard her. She jabbed a finger at the kid at the front as if to say ' that's him! ' Lizz made a face and grinned broadly, turning back to the front to catch Mr. Lyons muttering something inaudible to nervous looking kid standing beside him.
" Class, this is Billie Joe Armstong. He's joining us from West Berkely P. S." Mr. Lyons announced. Billie Joe smiled at everyone, and sat down next to Lizz, which made nearly made Jamiee scream. Billie Joe smiled at Lizz as he sat down and said,
"Hey."
"Hey." Lizz smiled back, " What did Mr. Lyons say to you?"
"Just that you were really nice and that you would show me around at recess." He smiled even wider. Lizz smiled and nodded as Mr. Lyons continued the lesson.
