Jealous Jamiee and the Unattainable Billie Joe, chapter 2
Recess arrived and Lizz told Jamiee that she would go with her to study hall next recess. Jamiee looked disappointed, but smiled sheepishly at Billie Joe, who was slightly taller than both her and Lizz. Billie smiled politely, and he and Lizz began their tour of the school. Lizz showed Billie all around their school, library, gym, office, and every classroom, and she told him who taught each class, and he met a few of the teachers who were in their classrooms at the time.
"So why are you coming here a month and a half into the year?" Lizz questioned,
"I got expelled. I swear, every teacher at that fucking school was out to get me!" He grinned.
"Wow. Expelled in a month and a half. Howdja manage that?" Lizz joked,
"No Idea" Billie laughed. Lizz grinned. They walked out onto the yard together, laughing. Jamiee ran up to them and introduced herself properly to Billie Joe, flirting the whole time, hoping Billie would like her too, and flirt back, but she was disappointed. The three of them were joined by Ty, and their friend Sarah, who was in their class, too. They all hung out together until recess was over.
Back in class, there was a period to study for a math test that was coming up. Billie Joe looked like he was having a bit of trouble with the practise test, and flashed his big, green eyes at Lizz, whispering, "Can you help me with this?" quietly in her ear.
" I can try" Lizz replied, looking over his answers, and comparing them to hers. "Well, everything you've got down in this-" she began but was interrupted by a tap on her shoulder. She turned around to face Mr. Lyons. He shook his head and mouthed 'No Talking' before resuming to observe the rest of his students. Mr. Lyons seemed to be watching Lizz and Billie Joe carefully, so Lizz wrote Billie a note on the corner of her page:
Give me your email and I can help you with it tonight.
Billie took the paper and quickly wrote:
Why don't you come over to my house and help me with it? It's always easier one on one.
Lizz nodded in reply, smiling, and the two continued working.
*MEANWHILE*
Jamiee looked over at Lizz and Billie Joe, and saw them close together, probably whispering. Ty, who had had a crush on Jamiee since grade 6, noticed her staring over at Billie Joe, and suddenly felt a pang of jealousy towards the new student. Ty was good looking, probably just as good looking as Billie Joe, but it was pretty clear that Jamiee thought of him as 'just a friend'. Ty sighed and continued working. Jamiee didn't notice Ty staring at her, and when she looked over at him, he had his head down, scribbling an answer on his page. Jamiee looked up to the front of the classroom, then back down to her page, staring blankly at it for the rest of the period.
*AT LUNCH*
"Wanna sit with me?" Billie Joe asked Lizz, while they were in line to get food from the cafeteria.
"Sure!" Lizz replied, while ordering a salad. When they both had their meals, they sat down at an empty table, and were almost immediately joined by Jamiee.
"Hey guys!" She exclaimed, looking over at Billie Joe, " Mind if I sit here?" Lizz and Billie looked at each other, and Lizz replied with a shrug. Jamiee smiled and sat down next to Lizz. " So, you gonna help me out in study hall this recess, Lizz?" She asked in a peppy voice, while stealing glances at Billie Joe.
"Yep!" Lizz replied smiling over at her best friend.
"Hey, do you guys mind if I join you? I need some extra time to catch up." Billie asked them.
"Yeah, no problem! We'll have a study group!" Jamiee replied almost immediately, grinning brightly at Billie. Billie smiled back politely, then went back to his salad. The 3 finished their meals- Jamiee finishing first and staring at Billie Joe every time he looked down- and they headed to study hall early.
Study Hall wasn't very crowded, and most of the people there just stared longingly at the people outside, having recess. Lizz helped Billie and Jamiee with their homework/ pre- tests, encouraging them to try everything on their own first, and by the end of it, Jamiee had finished her homework from the previous night, and had started her pre-test, but still had the homework that Mr. Lyons had assigned that day. Billie was about ¾ through his pre-test, and had glanced over his homework for that night.
They made it through the rest of the day without getting any other homework assigned. Lizz called her mom at the end of the day on Billie's cell phone and told her where she was going, and that she would call if she needed a ride. They took Billie's bus to his house, without noticing Jamiee staring at them through one of the front windows of the school. The 2 of them did their homework in Billie's room, which was quite nice, not smelly and covered in dirty clothes, like Lizz's brother's room. They did their homework together, helping each other and laughing at comments that the other had made. Lizz stayed at Billie's house for dinner, pizza, and they finished up their homework afterwards. They watched an episode of The Simpsons and Billie's mom said that she could drive Lizz home. When Lizz went up to get her bag from Billie's room, Billie went up after her, talking to her one last time before she left,
"I just wanted to say thanks again." Billie began, "I know I definitely wouldn't have gotten through this without you." Lizz smiled,
"You're welcome. Again." Lizz replied. They smiled at each other for a few seconds, then Billie kissed her gently on the cheek. He smiled down at her, and she smiled back, biting her bottom lip and looking up at him.
"See you tomorrow." Billie said, grinning at her. She nodded, and smiled at him one last time before she left his room. Billie's mom drove her home, and it was about 7:30 when she got there. She said hi to her mom, then went into her room to think.
