Jealous Jamiee and the Unattainable Billie Joe, chapter 3
Jamiee woke up at 7 am. She groaned, remembering how much she had struggled to finish her math homework the night before. She wished Lizz had been home so she could have helped her, or at least pushed her in the right direction. She then remembered how she was kind of pissed at Lizz for stealing the guy she had her eyes on. Maybe she was just over reacting. They were probably just friends. Yeah, that was it. She convinced herself that they weren't flirting, they were just being nice to each other, and Lizz went over to Billie's house the previous night to help him out with his homework and NOTHING ELSE. Jamiee dressed herself up nice in hopes of impressing Billie Joe again, while finishing up her remaining homework. She convinced her mom to let her walk the 30-minute walk to school, saying that she needed the exercise, as well as some time to think.
Jamiee arrived at school at about 8:30 to see Lizz and Billie's back to her as they laughed together at something that someone in their circle of friends had said. " Hey!" She shouted over everyone else's voice, pushing her way into the circle through Lizz and Billie Joe.
"Hey!" Lizz shouted back, smiling sweetly at her friend. Lizz had such a sweet smile; it was so hard to be mad at her. Billie smiled at her and said
"Hey!" Billie's smile was just as irresistible as Lizz's. It was hard to be mad at him, too.
"Did you do alright on your homework last night?" Lizz asked Jamiee,
"Yeah... I finished it!" Jamiee told her.
" Well, that's always good!" Lizz laughed, " We were just deciding what we were gonna do for Halloween! Billie's decided he's gonna go with us! Got any ideas?"
"How bout a punk band or something?" Jamiee suggested
" That reminds me... I can't do anything after school. I've got to go to band practice." Billie said.
"Wow, you're in a band?" Jamiee questioned,
" Yep." Billie replied, "Hey, you guys wanna come with me?"
" Oh. I can't." Jamiee stated sadly, " I got to baby sit."
" Oh. Ok. Well, Lizz, do you wanna come?" He asked her
" Sure!" Lizz exclaimed. The recess bell rang and the 3 of them walked in together, along with the rest of their circle of friends.
They managed to get through the day with almost no homework. All they had to do was get a bunch of leaves and stuff for art class. After school, Lizz called her mom and told her what she was doing, and Billie and Lizz walked over to Billie's friend, Mike's house, which wasn't very far away from their school. Mike was really cool. He had an awesome sense of humor, and was really nice. After Billie introduced them, they hit it off (as friends, of course). The 3 of them hung out until their drummer, Al, got there. As they were practicing, Lizz was smiling at Billie and Mike, but she couldn't really see Al. Billie kept stealing glances over at Lizz, and smiling at her. He was starting to realize something... he liked her! He also knew that Jamiee liked him, so he kind of had a problem. He liked Jamiee, but only as a friend, and he didn't want to hurt her because he still wanted to be friends with her. Billie knew that if Jamiee found out that he liked Lizz, she would be pretty pissed at both of them, but especially Lizz, and he didn't want to break up their friendship.
After band practice, the 4 of them hung out for a bit, and then they went their separate ways. When Billie got home, he gathered the leaves and shit that he needed for art class the next day, then went into his room to think, coming out only for dinner. He thought about how he could hang out with Lizz more, and get to know her, since they didn't really know that much about each other, without Jamiee finding out and getting jealous. His chance came a few days later, when Jamiee was sick from school. Lizz and Billie spent their lunch and recesses together, getting to know each other. Both were having a good time, but Billie got the idea that Lizz only thought of him as a friend. For now.
When Halloween came, Jamiee couldn't go out with them because her mom made her go with her little cousins. So Lizz, Billie, Ty and Sarah went together as a Zombie wedding party. Lizz and Billie were the best man and maid of honor, while Sarah and Ty were the bride and groom. Ty and Sarah were going out now, and they left early, around 8:30, to go make out. Billie and Lizz trick-or-treated for another hour, then decided to go hang out under the bridge and eat candy. They put their candy together, and got to talking about previous Halloweens that they had celebrated with their families. Billie started crying silently at the mention of his father's name, and tried to turn away, but Lizz noticed his tears and asked what was wrong. "He died when I was ten." Billie choked out.
" Oh my god. I'm so sorry Billie, why didn't you tell me before?" Lizz questioned,
" Because... I don't know..." Billie started sobbing, and Lizz leaned over and hugged him, trying to comfort him. He hugged back and buried his face in her soft hair, trying to stop crying, but failed until about 10 minutes of hugging. When he pulled away, he noticed that Lizz had tears in her eyes, too. She kissed him on the cheek and hugged him again, wrapping her arms around his neck. Billie walked Lizz home, as her house wasn't very far away from where they were, and then began to walk the 10-minute walk back to his house, needing a bit of time to himself to think about things. He thought about Lizz, Jamiee, and his dad, and how much he missed him.
