The Special Story, chapter 6

***My POV***

I got to school and went to my first period class. It was as boring as hell so I got a pass and went to the bathroom. After doing all my stuff I washed my hands I caught a whiff of smoke. I shrugged and continued to wash my hands. Then I heard the fire alarm. Holy shit, there was a fire! I ran out of the bathroom into the crowd of panicking people. We all flowed out the door and we stood in line as the teacher called roll call. I looked at the school part of it was burning up must to my freight. After the teacher called through role call she finally got to Tre, "Frank?" "Frank er... Tre," she called in a more worried voice. I quickly looked around. Holy crap, where was Tre? Then, I heard a faint voice crying from the building. Tre was missing so I assumed it must have been him. I quickly ran out of the line and into the burning building, not know what on earth I was doing.

I quickly found my way through all the burning rubble, getting closer and closer to the cry for help. I was choking on the smoke and I felt the little pieces of ash falling on my arm and burning it. I winced at the pain but I had to save Tre. I found the room where he was and saw him in tears choking on the smoke. I pushed him to the ground and we crawled through all the rubble. HE was lagging so I picked him up and ran as fast as I could.

There were firefighters waiting for me to hand them Tre. I handed him Tre through a little slit in the fallen rubble. After I handed him Tre, I felt a horrible pain in my back then I saw everything start to go black.

***Tre's POV***

"Thanks so much," I told the firefighter and I looked behind me and much to my freight I saw the firefighters pulling out Cassidy's slumped body and putting it onto a stretcher. And they rolled her onto and ambulance, I had to get into there. I ran to try and catch up to the ambulance but I couldn't. I fell to my knees sobbing. I killed a girl, the only girl I had ever loved. Now she was gone, forever. And it was all my fault.

I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked up and saw Mike. He smiled weakly and said, "How about we find a way to get to that hospital." "But the stupid dumb ass teachers won't let us," I said trying to choke in my tears for my few words. "Who said they had to let us," Billie Joe said walking up behind Mike. "How do we get there," Natalie asked. "Maybe we can ask a teacher or the or principal to drive us there," Natalie suggested. "We can take you there," a policeman said from behind me. We all smiled dryly and stepped into his car.

"How about I call the school and tell them you will be out fir a little while," The policeman suggested. I sadly bobbed my head and he called them. I no longer cared that if I was in excused from school or lying dead on the road. "Tre are you ok," Billie Joe asked worriedly. "It depends on what you consider 'ok'. If you think wishing yourself die is normal, be my guest," I said with my head between my legs. Natalie frowned, "Why do you wish you were dead? I mean it's not like you started the fire." "Well, it was my dumb ass fault that I got caught in the fire and of course Cassidy came in to save me. She handed me to the firemen not giving a care in the world what happened to herself, just what happened to me. So she went and got herself killed thanks to me," I said almost in tears. "We're here" the policeman commented.

We nervously stepped into Cassidy's room. I saw her and she was out cold. But she was alive, a nurse stepped in and gave us her conditions, "We're not really sure of her condition currently but there was a large burn mark on her back, we assume that a burning board fell on her back. We need to take x-rays to see if it hurt her spine if so she may be paralyzed for the rest of her life." "Are you going to take the x-rays now," I asked nervously. She nodded and pulled her into a room.

We nervously sat and waited when she finally pulled her out of the room. "Her spine hasn't been injured, it's a medical miracle." We all smiled. "But she has some serious burns and her right leg seems to be broken but I think she will survive," she said with a big smile. "Do you have and idea when she will be awake again," Mike asked. "I don't have much of an idea but you may wait until she does," she answered. We all sat and waited again, for her to get up.

After a few hours I heard a moan. I thought it was my imagination but when I saw her eyes open I smiled. I woke the others up and we all wondered over to see how she was doing.

"Hey," I said. "Hello," she said dryly. "How are you," Natalie he'sitated to ask. "I want a popsicle," she said. "I'll get you one," Billie Joe offered. "Go right ahead, I'm not stopping you," she said laughing weakly. He quickly ran out of the room. "Well everything hurts," she said frowning. "That's not surprising," I said. "Do you know how long you will be here," Natalie asked. "Eh... Probably until they get a cast on my leg," she said pointing to the x-rays. I winced seeing the x-rays the bone was busted up pretty bad. "So... How are you guys," she asked.

Billie Joe quickly paced into the room and happily handed Cassidy the Popsicle. "Thanks," she said trying to smile and she opened the pop, "Mm... Chocolate." "I wonder who started the fire," Mike questioned. "Pretty serious fire, wonder how much of the school burned down," Natalie questioned. "Hopefully the whole thing, so we will have no school," I said happily. "They would send us to another weird school full of preps probably," Cassidy said. "I wonder when school will start," Mike asked. "Probably as soon as possible, hopefully not tomorrow because that would suck," Billie Joe commented. A nurse stepped in the room and asked, "How are you?" "Erm... Ok, but I think I need the cast," she said.

She had a cast right leg. "You may choose if you want to use a wheel chair or crutches," the nurse stated. "Hm... Crutches, I could use the exercise," she said. "As you wish," she said handing her the crutches. "Who wants to be the first to sign both my casts," she asked. All of us jolted our hands up. She looked like she was thinking and she handed the Sharpie to me. The thought of her giving me the pen first made me excited. I signed the best I could on her cast. And handed the pen to Natalie she signed and the pen went in a little circle as we all signed and when we were done Cassidy ended up with the pen again and smiled, "Thanks guys." It was the first time we had seen her smile with all her strength all day. "You are dismissed, and if you have any problems please let us know," the nurse said in a happy tone. We slowly made our way out of the hospital.

"Cassidy," I saw her mother and father holler as the hugged her trying not to injure her even know I was her wince. "I'm so glad you are ok," her mother said sighing with relief. "What were you thinking, running into that burning school," her father asked.

***My POV***

"What were you thinking, running into that burning school," my dad asked. I winced. I couldn't really tell them that I was in love with one of my friends now could I? I couldn't tell them that I would do anything for a Tre; they would separate me and him forever. "I didn't know I would get almost killed," I lied. My father looked at me weird, "At least we know you are ok." "Um... Mother can my friends come over, I have been through a big ordeal and stuff," I said listening to the others snickering. I gave them an evil stare and they all stopped right away. "I guess..." my mom said in an annoyed voice. I smiled and we were all on my way home.
