A Night To Remember, chapter 2
* Saturday, 8:40 AM * Maggie's POV *
I was up bright and early today, even though I had been out all night. I made breakfast for everybody before I went to work. I had two jobs. I was a high school math teacher and a nurse. School got out at 2:20 giving me 2 hours before I left for the doctor's office. My shift ended at 8. This of course was during the week. I also worked Saturdays from 10 to 2. Although this made me extremely busy, I was able to earn plenty of money to pay my bills.
At 11, my phone rang. I almost didn't pick it up because I was in over my head of work, but when I saw who it was from I knew that I couldn't miss the call.
"Hello." Mike's voice rang in my ears.
"Hi," I replied back.
"It's Mike," he said.
"I know," I said playfully.
"Do you wanna join me for dinner tonight?" Even though I had been expecting this, I was still surprised.
"Mike, are you kidding me!"
"You don't want to come then,'" he said sounding disappointed.
"Of course I want to come, how could I turn down an offer for dinner with the hottest guy in the world?"
"I don't know if I'd go the far," he said sounding pleased.
We talked a while longer but my boss came in so I had to hang up.
"You have been on the phone for at least 20 minutes! You know very well that I am not paying you to stand around and talk on the phone for ever. If I find you ignoring your work again you will be fired. I mean it!" My boss's voice sounded like discordant notes ringing through my ears. I was completely stunned.
"I'm sorry sir," I managed to say. I was always at work on time, and sometimes stayed for overtime without pay. I never took long breaks away from my job. Why on this one occasion did he threaten to fire me? "Sir," I said hesitantly, "is something troubling you?"
"No... , well maybe but if there is it's none of your business" With that he left. I slipped my cell phone into my pocket and hurried into the exam room.
"Hi," I said, trying to sound pleasant. "I have to give you a few vaccines and then you'll be able to head out. I'm sorry to have kept you waiting."
The woman's response was "It's quite alright young lady, my minutes are not as precious as yours. I know that there are other patients that you must attend to, they are far more important than me."
Her response made me feel guilty. I was not attending to other patients, but to my future boyfriend instead. She was an elderly woman, these could be her last few minutes on earth, and here I was wasting her time. It felt good to know though that there were some considerate people in the world...
* Saturday, 2:30 PM * Still Maggie's POV *
I arrived home to find Billie Joe, Tre, and Mike seated on our couch.
"What are they doing here?" I questioned, maybe sounding a bit too surprised.
"Is everything ok Maggie," Mike said sounding worried. "If you have a problem with us being here then we'll go. It is your house."
"Oh my God no! Of course I don't want you to go."
"Ok, good because I really wasn't planning on leaving anyways." Mike smiled. It making me melt.
* Saturday, 7:30 * Yep, Sorry Still My POV*
"Ready to go Maggie," Mike asked me.
"Yep, we can go whenever."
"K then, lets head out."
* At the Restaurant *
"So," Mike said, trying to start a conversation, "what do you do for a living?"
I laughed, "I'm not the only one having a hard time thinking of something to start a conversation with." This seemed to break the tension a little. "Well, I teach high school math, and I'm a nurse."
"You're certainly busy." Mike said, sounding a little more relaxed.
"Yeah, but no where near as busy as you."
* Mike's POV *
Dinner seemed to go well. She might be to busy to have a steady relationship though. I really like her. Hmmm. I don't know what to do.
We went back to her house afterwards. It was really a nice place. When we got inside we saw Billie Joe and Natalie making out on the couch. They don't waste anytime do they, I thought to myself. Maggie caught Nat's eye and the two stopped. Nat looked rather embarrassed.
"I was just saying good-bye." Billie said hurriedly.
"I guess I've got to go to then." Mike said. "Does anybody have any idea where Tre is?"
"I think they went for a walk about 20 minutes ago." Nat said.
Maggie walked me out. She passionately kissed me. We kissed for a long time until I saw Tre and Rachel walking down the street. I wish they had taken a longer walk. Maggie is a really good kisser.
"There's Rachel and Tre." I said disappointedly.
"Yeah, well I'll call you tomorrow I guess." She said before giving me another quick kiss on the lips.
We walked back into the house only to find Billie Joe and Natalie going at it again.
"Hey, Billie Joe, we have to go now." I laughed.
Natalie and Billie Joe said "good-bye" AGAIN!! And then we were finally ready to leave.
Billie and I walked out the front door were we saw Tre and Rachel talking to each other. Rachel laughed at something he said.
"We have to go, but I'll talk to you as soon as I can" Tre said while giving Rachel a quick kiss.
"How long will that be?" Rachel asked teasingly.
"It may be later to night, or next week. You may never know" Tre joked.
"Ok, ok, well then I'll talk to you when I talk to you." Rachel said and gave Tre another kiss.
Then we all got in the car and drove home.
* Billie Joe's P.O.V. *
I miss Natalie already!! We've only been away from them for about 5 minutes!
"So Billie Joe, what were you and Natalie doing all night?" Tre said with a smug look on his face.
"Shut up, it's none of your business" I was a little annoyed, but for some reason I was smiling.
"Ok, jeez" Tre said still smiling.
"How was your night with Maggie, Mike?" I asked.
"It was great, but she works so much. She's a high school math teacher AND a nurse." Mike said.
"Woah, Natalie is a chef at a fancy restaurant" I told them.
"I'm not sure what Rachel does yet" Said Tre.
"But what if she over works herself to death!!" Mike started to freak out.
"Calm down, Mike. I doubt anything like that will ever happen" I let out a small laugh.
* Sunday, 10:47 * Still Billie Joe's P.O.V. *
"Damn sun!" I yelled while rolling over onto my back. I opened my eyes groggily.
I slowly sat up and got out of bed. I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. Then I heard my phone start to ring.
"Hello?" I asked
"Hey, Billie Joe. Its Mike."
"Oh hey, Mike"
"I'm calling to say that I can't hang with you and Tre today." Mike said
"Oh, ok. Why not?" I asked
"Because I'm going out with Maggie today" Mike said happily.
"Ooohhh, ok." I said teasingly.
"I'll talk to you later though." He said
"Alright, bye Mike" I said and hung up.
I sat at the kitchen counter thinking.
"Maybe I'll call Natalie" I said to myself
I picked up the phone and dialed her number.
**On The Phone**
"Hello?" It was Rachel
"Hi, is Natalie there?" I asked
"Yeah, hold on one sec" she said
I heard some noise on the other end.
"Hello?" She sounded tired, like she had just woke up.
"Hey there sleepy head. Its me."
"Oh, hey Baby" This made me smile.
"I was wondering if you wanted to do anything today?" I asked her.
"Yeah sure, are you gunna pick me up?"
"Yeah, I'll be there around 12:30" I suggested
"Ok, I'll be ready" She said
"I'll see you soon then, bye hun" I said
"Bye" and we hung up.
