Where Did Green Day Go???, chapter 1

YEAR: 2105

Magenta stared wistfully at her brand new 3D TV that she had received for her birthday. It wasn't the "Picture perfect, state-of-the-art" model that the advert had promised. The screen flickered constantly and the sound was tinny and muffled. She flicked through the channels with disinterest, then finally turned it off and sighed. What a birthday. She had got up at around 6am to see her parents before they rushed off to work. She was very disappointed and upset when they shoved a package in her hands, wished her a quick "Happy Birthday" and left. She unwrapped the hologram TV by herself and cried, because she knew that her parents got a huge discount with electronics, as they were the chief designers at Techna Corp, the most advanced electronics company in the world. She didn't care that the gift was cheap, it was just that it was so impersonal. They hadn't even asked what she wanted. They didn't seem to realise that she wasn't interested in Hologram Buddies, Digi Pets or 3D TV's. All she wanted was the only Green Day CD that she didn't have yet. Shenanigans. She had searched everywhere. On the internet, in the used record store and even in a few charity shops. CD's weren't the main form of music anymore. MP3 files had taken over.

It was strange. Whenever she typed Green Day into a search engine, it always said "No searches found". The only reason she knew about Green Day was because she had found a CD in her great Aunt Ramona's house after she died. When she was twelve, Magenta had picked it up in interest. It was American Idiot. She was curious, so she walked over to the dusty old CD player, and after ten minutes she had finally figured out how to put the disc in. Suddenly, a guitar started playing, then there was an explosion of sound. It died down a little as the line "Don't wanna be an American Idiot" was sung by an amazing voice, then the music started again. At that moment, Magenta was hooked. She rooted around more, and found two other albums, Dookie and Nimrod. Over the past four years, she had searched high and low for the rest. The only one missing was Shenanigans. When she played Green Day to her friends, they frowned at her and usually said "Why do you like this? Hip Hop music is WAY better." The only friend that seemed to understand Green Day's genius was her best friend Abby. When she heard it, her eyes opened wide and she said "This is AWESOME!" She too helped look for Green Day CD's and information about the band themselves, but there was hardly anything left. It was like Green Day had just vanished without a trace. They didn't even know what the band members were like. All they had to go on was the pictures on the inside of the CD covers. Magenta's favourite member was Tré, and Abby said she couldn't decide between Billie Joe and Mike. One day however, that all changed. They were rooting around a used book bin in a charity shop.
"OH MY GOD!!!" Abby screamed. The store manager jumped in shock.
"What? Did you find something?" Magenta saw what was in Abby's hands.
"OH MY FUCKING GOD!" Magenta screamed. Even though the cover was faded, the words "Green Day: American Idiot's and the New Punk Explosion" were still visible. They skipped to the counter and bought it without a moments hesitation. They read the book cover to cover and laminated the pages so they could be preserved forever!

Magenta wandered to her room and collapsed on her bed. She stared at the wall in disinterest when there was a knock at the door.
