A Handful of Pixie Dust (Sequel to The Art of Survival), chapter 4
Nia screeched excitedly as she ran out of the bathroom with just a towel wrapped around her and bubbles embalming her ankles. Bethan chased after her with her dressing gown in her arms. "Nia Marianne Jenkins!" she called. "Get back here now!"
Billie Joe came out of Bethan's living room to see what was happening. When he saw Nia barely covered, he covered his eyes with his hand and fell back against the wall. "Ew, Nia! You're naked!" he exclaimed.
Nia screamed. "Don't look! Don't look!" she ordered him, rushing into her bedroom.
"I'm not." Billie Joe replied, trying to feel his way back into the living room with his hand still over his eyes. Bethan watched his unsuccessful attempt before following Nia, laughing.
When Bethan got into the bedroom, Nia was stood facing her, clutching the towel to her tightly. "Uncle Billie saw me naked." she told Bethan with a giggle as she pulled Nia's pyjamas off the bed.
"You flirt." Bethan replied, drying Nia gently. Nia just giggled with averted eyes. As Bethan began putting Nia into her pyjamas, her mobile phone rang out loudly. Bethan groaned and stood up, pulling it out of her pocket as she did. Looking at the screen, she frowned. "Number withheld" flashed itself onto her mind and she pressed the "Enter" button cautiously. "Hello?" she said.
There was nothing but an eerie silence on the end of the call. Just as Bethan was about to take another breath, the connection was cut off and the dialling tone pierced Bethan's ears. She pulled her phone away rapidly and pressed "End Call", staring at her phone absently.
"Who was it, Mummy?" Nia asked, looking up inquisitively at Bethan.
Bethan looked at Nia, noticing she had tried putting her own pyjama top on managing to get it inside out and back to front. Smiling, Bethan knelt back down and righted it. "No one." she told her. She rubbed her nose playfully against her daughter's, savouring the smell of soap that came from her. "Now let's go beat up Uncle Billie."
