Forever Green, chapter 1

‘Okay so, your story goes like this. Your mother and father died when you were 10, in a car accident with your sister and other 2 brothers and Josh is the only brother, well, family member you have left’, Mike asked leaving back onto the couch. ‘Yeah, it was 6 years ago. I’m still little shakey about it though’, Steph replied. ‘Yeah I can see why’, said Tre ‘And now you have no one left at all’. ‘Well there are people. Family members I mean, but their all over seas and I don’t really wanna travel. The only one I have close to me is my step-father, but we’ve never gotten along’, Steph said. The convocation began to run deeper. They we’re telling each-other things that most people would have kept a secret. After a while, the room went silent. It was awkward for the 3 of them. Tre decided to break the ice. ‘So, who’s up for a game of Truth or Dare? Well mostly truth’, he asked. Mike and Steph both looked at each-other. ‘It couldn’t hurt’, Steph said smiling. ‘Okay I ask the first question’, Tre jumped excitedly. ‘Oh god here we go’, whispered Mike, before the two of them got into a play fight. ‘Guys come on. Be serious about this, even if it is a game’, Steph snapped making them both stop. ‘Oh someone’s in a bad mood. Since Billie Joe isn’t spending time with her’, Tre said laughing and crawling his way over to Steph. ‘No way. Come on guys be serious’, Steph said again. ‘Oh she is. She misses him’, Tre continued blowing kisses into the air. ‘Tre stop it’, Steph said pushing him into Mike. ‘Oh Tre you we’re right, she does miss Billie’, Mike said. Both men we’re now laughing hard on the floor. ‘Fine then be immature’. Steph got up from the couch, and was almost at the door when Tre called her back. ‘Oh Stephie, come just stay. We didn’t mean it. Honest’, he said, smiling at her. ‘Alright, just no more jokes’, She said coming and sitting down with them. The laughed for a while longer and then sat in silence again. Once again Tre broke the ice *as usual*. ‘Steph, just say Billie, asked you out, would you kiss on the first date?’. ‘Tre come on, you know I don’t see BJ like that’, Steph replied, leaning a little closer to Mike. ‘Nah be serious. I’ve seen the way you look at him and how, you two talk. Your into each-other, your just scared to say it’, he replied. ‘I don’t look at him, any differently from any-other male I look at’, Steph shot back as quickly as she could. ‘Come on just admit it, You want him’, said Tre, as he and Mike started to make kissing noises again. ‘Guys I seriously don’t see Billie like that. As much as you two may think, we’re just friends. We always have been just friends and we always will be just friends’, Steph said as calmly as she could. They we’re starting to irritate her with this immature behaviour, but still she had come to accept it.

A few minutes past and Billie Joe walked into the room, with his hand over the speaker of the phone. ‘Steph it’s a call for you’, he said handing over the phone to her. His eyes had a seriously look in them and he’s voice tone was lower than usual. She knew this was serious. Steph took the phone and walked into the other room. Billie sat with the guys and they started to lure him into playing truth or dare. He told them about the call, and said not to say anything about it. There was an older man on the other side of the line. He started to speak. After a few minutes Steph dropped the phone, ran through the lounge, past the boys and out of the house. ‘Should be follow her?’, Mike asked. ‘Might not be a bad idea if we do’, Billie said, getting the car keys as the 3 men ran outside and hopped into the car.

Steph just continued running. She didn’t know where she was going. All she knew was that she had to be somewhere else. The phone call kept running though her head. How would she be able to forget the call? All of a sudden she stopped. She started walking. Her breath was running out and she wouldn’t find anymore energy to move. The beach was only a few hundred meters ahead of her. She walked there as quickly as she could and sat herself down on the end of the pier, looking out over the ocean. ‘Why did he have to leave?’. She asked herself. It wasn’t that long ago that she had lost all of her family, and now her brother, the only family she had left was taken away from her as well.

‘There she is’, Mike pointed out. The car slowed down to a stop. ‘Should we all go get her?’, Tre asked. ‘NO, she’s just gonna feel more pressure come on her if we all go’, Mike replied. ‘Billie, you go. Your normally the one she talks to when she feels like she has to and you’re the one, who makes her feel better about everything that happens’, Tre said. ‘I cant’, said Billie ‘I’ll just end up hurting her, and she doesn’t need that right now’. ‘Mate you wont, just go talk to her’, Mike said. ‘She’ll appreciate it’, Tre added in. Billie Joe got out of the car from the drivers seat and began to walk down to the end of the pier. ‘I hope she’s gonna be alright’, Tre said. ‘She will be, just gotta show her that we’re here for her’, Mike replied as both men carefully watched there friend from the car….
