Billie Joe's Love Life, chapter 1
Billie Joe had the hots for Jen. She was such a gorgeous girl. She had long dark brown hair and deep brown eyes with lots of eyeliner. She was really nice as well. Billie Joe had never really been too good with the girls in high school, and didn't care, but Jen was the only girl that Billie Joe had ever known who made want to be something more. Awwwww...
Jen didn't know that Billie Joe liked her, nor did any one else. No-one could find out.
No-one.
It was double English, and as usual, it was boring. Mike was playing hangman on the desk with one of his friends, and Billie Joe was staring, glassy-eyed at the teacher. "Someone shoot the whore"; he thought savagely, as she went on and on and on about some random film they had just seen. Billie Joe's attention was slipping away. He moved his green eyes around the classroom. Finally they rested on Jen.
"Wow, she's so beautiful"; Billie Joe thought dreamily, looking at her slender figure. Jen was drawing something on her page. She was a very good artist. From Billie Joe's view it looked something like a freaky alien, but them he realised it was the teacher.
Billie Joe spent quite some time staring at the prettyful Jen. He wouldn't be surprised if he felt some drool hanging out of his mouth.
The bell rung, and immediately, Billie Joe stopped staring at Jen and packed his books away. He shoved his pencil case into his bag and swung it over his shoulder, nearly sending poor Lisa flying over to the other side of the room.
Mike met up with Billie Joe at his locker. Billie Joe grinned as Mike approached.
"What's so funny?" ; Mike asked.
"I saw you checking out Danni." ; Said Billie Joe.
Mike went pale.
"What? Checking out who? Me? Danni?" ; Mike flustered, going red. Billie Joe laughed.
"Don't worry I won't tell nobody." ; Billie Joe said.
"You'd better fucking not." ; Mike joked. "Or I'll bash the living shit outta you." ;
"You coming round my place after school?" ; Billie Joe asked.
"Can't." ; Mike said sadly. "Got some freaky relatives coming over. Maybe tomorrow." ;
"Yeah, yeah whatever." ; Billie Joe said, as Jen walked by, chatting to her friend.
They had Science next, so Billie Joe and Mike walked off to the lab. The old teacher was pointing at diagrams of animal brains on the board, but Billie Joe wasn't looking. He was writing a note to Mike.
Mike darling, [it said]
I love you so much, meet me at the cafeteria at lunchtime.
Love Danni.
He gave the note to Mike. Mike read it and gave Billie Joe a smack across the head, which earned him a detention. Mike scrunched up the note into a ball and stuffed it in his bag.
When Billie Joe got back to his empty house that same day, with Jen as the only thing on his mind. He needed to get her out of his head. He couldn't keep thinking about her or he'd be getting erections over her at school by next week.
Billie Joe ran up to his room. He grabbed a spare exercise book from last year and ripped out all the used pages, leaving a large amount of blank paper in it. He grabbed a pen and wrote her name all over the pages:
Jennifer Burley
Jennifer Burley
Jennifer Burley
Jennifer Burley
Jennifer Burley
Jennifer Burley
Billie Joe's wrist was aching...
Jennifer Burley
Jennifer Burley
Jennifer Burley
Jennifer Burley
He wondered when mom would be home...
Jennifer Burley
Jennifer Burley
Jennifer Burley
Jennifer Burley
Finally, the whole book was full of the same two words, Billie Joe heard the door open. It was mom. Billie Joe looked around madly for a place to hide the book, as he heard his mothers steps coming closer. Billie Joe caught sight of his shoulderbag and jammed the book roughly into it, closing the flap quickly.
He pretended to be reading as his mother walked into his room.
"Oh, reading are you Billie Joe?" his mother asked.
"Yep." Said Billie Joe, keeping a straight face.
"Is everything alright, honey?" mom asked.
"Sure."
"You're reading your older brothers pornography magazine, dear."
Billie Joe looked at the front cover, horrified. Indeed, there was a picture of a blonde woman in a revealing metal bikini. Billie Joe was shocked that he hadn't known what he was pretending to read. His mother closed the door.
The next day at school, Billie Joe was rummaging through his bag for his maths book when he realised somthing - the book was gone! But the worst bit was that it wasn't his maths book that was missing, it was the book with Jen's name written all over it!
"Thank god it didn't have MY name in it..." Billie Joe thought, glad that no-one would know that the book was his if it was found.
A couple of hours later, the school was filing into the gymnasium for an assembly.
It was boring. A couple of people played some pathetic music on their tacky violins, some teachers talked, awards were handed out, and at the end, lost property was called.
Someone had lost a jumper, and the person whom it belonged to came up to get it.
Then the principal held up a book.
"That's mine..." ; Billie Joe thought, horrified. "That's my book..."
"Jennifer Burley!"
Jennifer walked up to the front. All the school watched her. The principal handed her the book. She turned the pages, looking through it.
"That's not mine." She said.
"What?" the principal asked.
"That's not mine." ; Jen repeated
"But it has your name in it..."
Jenny shrugged.
"Well, keep it anyway." The principal said.
Jenny walked back to her seat, clutching the book.
At lunch, a group of people were crowding around Jen, including Mike and Billie Joe.
"You have a secret admirer, Jen!"
"Who's is it?"
"What if it's a teachers?"
"Teachers write neater than that, idiot!"
"I don't know who's it is." Jen said.
"I bet it's Mikes!" Billie Joe exclaimed.
Mike flashed Billie Joe a warning look.
"Shut up, fool!" he said angrilly. "It is NOT!"
"Is." Billie Joe muttered under his breath.
Mike'sangry look turned to a gleeful one.
"How do we know it's not yours?" Mike said.
Everyone looked at Billie Joe.
"Yeah, Billie Joe! How do we know it's not yours?"
"BJ and Jenny, sittting in a tree..."
"Fess up Two-Dollar-Bill!"
"Match it with my handwriting." Billie Joe said, not realising what he was saying.
Someone got a pen and some paper. Billie Joe wrote "my name is Billie Joe" on it, in slightly spikier writing.
"You do NOT write like that Billie Joe!" Mike exclaimed.
"Match it with his schoolwork!" someone yelled.
"I don't have any books on me now." Billie Joe said, trying to stay calm. "I can bring some tomorrow."
"OH GOD WHY DID I HAVE TO SAY THAT!?!?!?!?" Billie Joe thought desperately.
There was only one thing to do.
Billie Joe got off the bus near the shops. He went into the newsagency and bought some more exercise books, and some new pens. He was going to use up every single one. Damn, all the ink would be enough to fill up a squid!
Billie Joe went home and got to work. He got his old school books out and copied every single word into the new ones - even the teachers remarks. He felt stupid, writing things like SEE ME AT LUNCH and 3/40 BILLIE JOE, WHAT IS THIS RUBBISH?!
Finally, at midnight, Billie Joe'snew handwriting was written in all the new books. Feeling tired, Billie Joe put his new books into his bag and drifted off to sleep.
Morning sunshine woke Billie Joe up. He got dressed, and scrunched up his hair messily, Jen still on his mind. He stopped thinking about her when he realised that he was absent-mindedly scrunching his eyebrows with his hair product.
Finally, his eyebrows back to normal, he walked out to the bus stop. The bus arrived five minutes later, and Bilie Joe got on. Jen was sittign in the middle of the back seat talking to her friends, and Mike was sitting a couple of rows in front. He smirked at Billie Joe as he approached. Billie Joe couldn't help but feel a bit angry at Mike. If he hadn't accused Billie Joe of owning the book with Jens name in it, he wouldn't have had to stay up all night writing.
"Got the books?" Mike asked.
"You betcha." Bilie Joe yawned.
Ten minutes later, they arrived at school, and as soon as he got off the bus, a small crowd of people were making their way towards him.
"Did you get the books?"
"Hurry up and match them!"
"Ow! That was my foot!"
Billie Joe took out the books from his bag. Jen took the exercise book out of her bag.
The writing did not match.
"That's impossible!" Mike exclaimed.
"Got proof for that?" Billie Joe asked cooly.
Mike's frown turned to a thoughtful look. He reached into his bag and got out a small peice of crumpled paper. He straightened out the paper and put it next to the handwriting in the book with Jens name in it. Everyone leaned in to see what the paper said:
Mike darling,
I love you so much, meet me at the cafeteria at lunchtime.
Love Danni.
Billie Joe's heart pounded against his throat as he read his note which he had written before.
"Billie Joe sent me this note a day ago as a prank." Mike said. Everyone looked at Billie Joe. Jen slowly turned towards him and looked him straight in the eye.
"Billie Joe, are both of these yours?" She asked quietly. Billie said nothing for a few seconds, then nodded his head. He looked down at his shoes, ashamed.
Billie Joe did not go to school for a few days. He hated Mike for what he had done to him. He was meant to be his friend! He went to his desk and took out a picture of him and Mike at Mike's 14th birthday. Billie Joe ripped it to shreds, crying quietly as he did so. His heart was breaking so much that Billie Joe almost felt like dying.
Then there was a knock at the front door.
Knowing that it would be Mike, Billie Joe ignored it.
The knocking continured, a bit louder. Finally after a minute, there was fierce pounding.
"Billie Joe! Open up!"
Billie Joe stopped ignoring the voice, it wasn't Mike.
"Billie Joe, please open the door! It's Jen!"
Billie Joe fiercely wiped his tears away, checked his reflection in the mirror, then went downstairs and opened the door.
Jen was standing in the doorway, looking gorgeous as usual in a black tank top with THE RAMONES written in white, a pair of dark jeans and a studded belt with a pair of black and white chequered Vans. She looked quite uneasy.
"Have you been crying?" She asked.
"Nah," said Billie Joe, rubbing his eye. "I'm fine."
"No you're not, Billie Joe." Jen said.
"I said I'm fine!" Billie Joe said angrily. Jen looked very taken aback.
"Okay, okay," she said testily.
"Do you, uh, wanna come in?" Billie Joe asked her, hoping he could make up for his angry outburst.
"Sure." Said Jen.
"I'm sorry that I shouted at you." Billie Joe said apologetically.
"Never mind." ;Said Jen, shaking her head. "You have every right to be mad."
"Not at you, though." Billie Joe mumbled, leading Jen inside.
"Well, I have to admit, what Mike to you was horrible." Jen said, closing the door after herself. "I personaly think he's to blame for you being in a shit mood."
Billie Joe looked at her and smiled, and she smiled back.
"Do you want something ot eat or drink?" Billie Joe offered.
"I wouldn't mind a drink." She said. "If it's no trouble..."
"No worries." Said Billie Joe, going to the fridge and getting out a couple of cans of Pepsi, which he opened, giving Jen one, who was sittign on the couch.
"Here's to Mike's life in hell." Billie Joe joked, sitting down right next to her. Jen laughed, and all of a sudden, Billie Joe felt a lot more comfortable around her. He was just starting to feel cheerful and confident when Jen asked a question which Billie Joe had been dreading.
"Billie Joe, what was that diary about?"
Billie Joe removed his can from his lips. He sighed deeply and tried very hard not to look at Jen as he answered her question.
"I guess I just liked you alot." Billie Joe shrugged. "I couldn't stop thinking 'bout you."
"But why write my name all over a book?"
"'Coz it was the only thing I could do. I didn't know what else to do." Billie Joe said. "I just felt like I had to get you out of my head, or I'd go mad. When I was writing your name in that book it was as if all my feelings for you were pouring out of me into the pages." Billie Joe looked up at Jen to find her eyes full of tears.
"Oh, Billie Joe, why didn't you tell me before though?" she said, a tear rolling down her cheek. "Why didn't you tell me how you felt?"
Billie Joe wiped the tear away from her cheek and said, "I knew that you'd reject me."
Jen held onto Billie Joe's hand and said, "Why would I do that?" ;
Billie Joe looked down at her hand, which was on his.
"Because I'm not good enough for you." Billie Joe said miserably, staring into her dark brown eyes. Without another word, he got up off the couch and slowly made his way towards the stairs.
"Billie Joe, wait."
Billie Joe turned around. Jen came over to him and gave him a hug. When she let go of him, she kissed him.
Billie Joe's mind exploded. He couldn't believe what was happening...
His first kiss. Awwwwww...
Jen stopped kissing him and joked quietly in his ear, "not good enough for me? You really are crazy Billie Joe."
Jen didn't know that Billie Joe liked her, nor did any one else. No-one could find out.
No-one.
