Rose, chapter 2
"Café... Down the street.. What time is it... " Mike said to himself. "Where is my goddamn cell phone.. Shit.."
Rose was sitting on the couch holding a silver flip phone which looked familiar to Mike's, when he walked back in.
*shhclick* "Oh, hey, this is a pretty good pic of you.. Besides the fact that.. Well.. Never mind.."
"What?" The bassist said, forgetting he was enraged at her. Mike had walked over to the couch and sat down by her.
"Oh, nothing. Just your hair is sticking up.. Right.. There... " She said as she reached to Mike's head to fix his hair. His eyes followed her when she moved and smiled when she sat back down. He licked his lip subconsciously, wondering about the awkward silence between them.
"Why did you decide to come back again?" Rose asked, shaking his phone in front of him.
"Oh yah.. I forgot.. Heh.." Mike said and chuckled at himself.
"I need to talk to you." Rose said, not looking up from the floor.
"Well.. Then do you want to come to the café with me?"
"Its about Billie."
Mike's heart sunk.. Those were the words he did not want to hear. He sat back down.
"Ok." He croaked, now also staring at the floor.
"Well... I think you might know.. He uh.. Left some things to me in his will... " Mike'seyes shot up to her face, dreading what she might say next, knowing her, he wasn't going to like it.
"Well.. I don't think I have rights to have any of his things that he left to me."
"damn right. -- Opps" Mike turned bright red and clasped his hand to his mouth. "I didn't mean to say that." But he didn't expect her to say she didn't deserve it... He thought it would be something.. A little more.. Heartless..
"No, its okay, say what you want to.. I deserved that."
Mike's blue eyes faded a little with sympathy, "This time really is different for you isn't it? You really didn't want to do this."
Rose shook her head 'no' and kept staring at the ground to keep herself from tears.
Mike reached his arms around her and pulled her towards him. He didn't attempt to say any reassuring words.. There were none in this case... He wouldn't let himself try to comfort her anymore.. This was her fault why they were all suffering from the death of Billie Joe. It was her who had killed him.
A tear fell down to Mike's cheek from his own eye. They were crying together for about 10 minutes, until they were interrupted by Mike's phone ringing. Rose still had a hold of it and saw 'Tre' show up on the screen. Rose's eyes shifted to meet Mike's
"No.. No... No.. Not. Tre too.. You can't.. No" Mike sobbed. Rose had not blinked since the phone had rung, she flipped it open and pressed the green phone to answer it. She held it up to Mike for him to answer.
"Hello?" Tre said because of the silence. "HELLO? MIKE?" Mike couldn't respond, he couldn't pull himself to do it. He flipped the phone shut and stood up. With one last glance, he walked out the door.
Once outside, he leaned up against the wall, tilted his head back and sighed. As soon as his train of thought started, it was interrupted by Rose's apartment door opening.
Rose walked out from inside with a black hoodie in her hand.
"Still heading to that café?" She asked.
Mike sighed and started down the stairs motioning for her to follow.
The walk there was a silent one, they didn't speak to each other, or anyone else, at all the whole trip.
They ordered and went to sit down while they waited for there drinks to be called out. They sat across from each other at a square table. Mike kept his stare on Rose the whole time, Rose kept her attention strongly on the quarter she was fiddling with.
The server called out there drinks.
"Oh, no Mike stay here, I can go get them." Mike nodded in acknowledgement.
Rose went and grabbed the drinks then walked over to the table that had the straws and everything else on it. A crash came from the table right behind Mike and Rose's. Out of reaction, Mike turned around to see what happened.
"Mike" Rose called to him, and nodded her head toward the door. Obediently, he got up and followed her out the door. "Here you go." She said, and handed him his drink.
The walk was another silent one, but about halfway through Mike started to notice his vision getting blurrier and his walking became slightly wobbled. They were now coming close to Rose's apartment.
"Rrrose." Mike slurred. "I.. I can't really seee straight... "
"Don't worry.... It'll wear off... " And with that said, Mike passed out, falling into her arms.
