What You Remind Me Of, chapter 13

Holy shit, I thought as I woke up. I looked over at my wife. "Thank you God," I mumbled as I threw the covers back. I looked at the clock beside our bed. 2:54 AM. I walked into the bathroom, where I threw up, at least three times, before getting in the shower. Even though I had one before I went to bed, it just seemed like the thing to do. I let the hot water run over my body as I thought about the dream. Jesus, what WOULD I do with Mel? Now that I had her, I didn't want to let go. I couldn't let her go. I needed her, like the air I breathed. But did she know that? She should, I mean I'd give her the world if I could. But did she know it, like deep down inside for sure know it? I heard her voice in the bathroom. "Bill, are ok?"
"Yeah, I just I couldn't sleep. I thought a shower might help."
"OK, just making sure. Do you need anything?" she was seriously worried about me, I could tell it from her voice. Cheer her up, Bill. That's your job.
"Yeah, how bout a good fuck?" Mission accomplished. She was laughing.
"Baby, I love you and you know that if it wasn't 3 in the fucking morning, I would so do it."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," I said turning off the shower and stepping out, "always an excuse."
"OOOOOOK, so tell me how I ended up like this," she asked pointing to her 'baby bump' as Tre called it.
"I honestly don't think it's mine," I said pulling her in for a kiss.
She just rolled her eyes and gave me a quick peek on the lips before turning around and going back to bed.

"So, wanna tell me about it?" She could read me like a book.
"Tell you about what," I asked, like I had no clue what she was talking about. We were on our way to pick Joey and Jake up from Adi's, so she could spend a weekend doing absolutely nothing. But she needed it.
"Billie. Don't even start this 'I-don't-know-what-you're-talking-about but-I-really-do-I-just-don't-wanna-talk-about-it-so-I'll-play-dumb' bullshit with me. What the fuck is wrong with you? You've been out of it all day. I'm worried."
"Look, Mel," I said as I turned onto a street, "I'm fine. I just... are you ok, with the baby and all?"
"Yeah, everything's fine, I have a check up on Tuesday, so I'll be in LA for most of the day. Why? What's wrong with you?"
"Nothing... Wait, an appointment in LA?"
"Yeah," she said slowly, looking at me with a worried expression, "why? You have something planed?"
"Yes, I'm going with you."
"You sure?"
"Yes, I think we should spend more time together."
"Ok, seeing that we spend 24 hours a day together... "
"Well," I said while turning the engine off and opening my door, "if you don't want to spend time with your husband-"
"Shut up," she smiled as we reached the front door.

"So... you and dad. Having a baby." Joey was sitting on the couch beside Mel, while I was in the floor, playing 'X-BOX' with Jake. We were all minding our own, when out of the blue, my oldest son opens his mouth.
"Yeah," Mel said looking at him like he had five heads, "Me and your dad. And the baby."
"I'm excited. So is Aimee." Aimee was his girlfriend. Of six months. The whole family loved her. She was one of the coolest girls I'd ever met, honestly.
"That's cool," Mel said, while flipping through People Magazine, "How is she, by the way?"
My oldest son's face brightened as he started to talk about Aimee. "She's doing amazing. We were gonna go see a movie, but I came with you guys instead."
"Well, maybe she could come over, or you could go over... and watch a movie?"
"Can she seriously come over?"
"Yeah, you're fifteen years old, almost sixteen. I think you can have a girl over to watch a movie. But you may wanna ask your dad first."
Joey looked at me and I nodded. "Sure. Want to go pick her up," I asked him, as he flipped open his phone, grabbed his coat and ran out the door.
I smiled and shook my head as I look over at Mel, who by now was in the floor, taking my place at the game.

Melody's POV

Billie was taking Aimee home and I was in the shower. As I let the water rush over me, I began to think about Billie. He had been acting strange these past few -. Two arms slipping around my waist interrupted my thoughts. I turned around to face Billie.
"Hey stranger," I said running my hand through his hair.
"Hey gorgeous, how ya been?"
"I've been missing my husband. How have you been?"
"Missing my wife, but the other ladies say I'm still a pretty good fuck. I just wonder what my wife thinks about my fucking abilities, though?"
"Your wife hasn't fucked you in about three weeks. I think she might have forgotten."
"I think I should remind her," he said pulling me closer.
"I think you should too."

I felt someone shaking me from my sleep. "GO AWAY," I mumbled, well yelled as I squeezed my eyes shut.
"Mel, wake up," it was Jake, and something was wrong, or he wouldn't be waking me up. "MEL, please, wake up."
"What the hell is wrong?"
"I can't sleep."
"Why?"
"I think I'm sick."
"Well... "
"Well?"
"Well, what do you wanna do?"
"I don't know, that's why I'm asking you."
I pushed the covers back and walked to the bathroom, where all the medicine was. "Ok," I sighed, "tell me what hurts."
"My stomach, I think I'm gonna barf."
"Nice," I said smiling, "wanna keep it in a jar or something, to show to your dad?"
He just laughed. I gave him two things of Pepto-Bismol and walked into the kitchen, him following. I sat out two glasses and filled them with water. "So," I said looking at Jake as I pulled out a chair beside him at the table, handing him his water, "you wanna tell me what's really bothering you?"
"What makes you think-"
"Look, Jake, you're just like your dad. You don't hide the truth well at all. I think it's a little more than just an upset stomach. So do you want to talk about it?"
He sat there, studying his water for a moment. "I think my mom is in love."
"Ok," should he really be talking to me about this? "Why does that bother you?"
"It doesn't. It's who she's in love with that bothers me."
"Do you wanna talk to Billie about-"
"No, not really. I like talking to you Mel it makes things better. I love you." This kid blows my mind.
"I love you, Jake. I'm happy that I can help. So," before I start to cry, "who is she in love with?"
"Well, he's been over a lot and they've been out a few times, and I'm not sure if she is, cause like I said-" geez Jake, breathe, "I only think, but still-"
"Honey, just... . who is it?"
"Oh," he said with a small laugh, "it's Mike." Oh. Ok, I could handle this. Although, it's not every day your stepson tells you his dad's best friend and his mom are together.
"Oh. Ok, well... " what can I say, I thought, as a racked my brain? "Are you ok with and you're bothered by the fact that it your dad's best friend? Or, does it bother you?"
"I love Mike, Mel, I really do. But, is dad gunna be ok?"
"Sweetie, I hate to say this, cause it hurts to think that the two people who brought you into this world don't wanna be with each other anymore, but your dad has moved on, obviously."
"Yeah, so have I. And so has Joey. And mom, but it's his best fri-"
"You know Jake, we actually talked about this before. And your dad said that if he could pick anyone for your mom to be with, it would be Mike."
"Really?"
"Yeah," I said standing up, and reaching for his hand, "I swear. And, now, let's go to bed."
He hugged me before walking off. "Mel?"
"Yeah," I said stopping in the middle of the stairs.
"Thanks."
"Yeah, no problem kid."
