What You Remind Me Of, chapter 6

Melody's POV

All the in between's... Do they really matter? No, they don't. So form 10:00 AM, to now, nothing in between matters. So, I won't bore you. I know what you wanna hear about.

I had stopped by the grocery store on the way "home" and had picked up a few things, not knowing how long I would need to stay. I was in the kitchen putting up my food supplies, when I heard a knock on the door. "Who could that be," I said sarcastically, loud enough for him to hear.
"It's that male stripper you ordered. You know, the one who looks like a rock star."
"Ha, ha, fucking' ha," I said flatly, as I opened the door. He walked in and headed straight for the living room. I followed him and plopped down on the couch, sitting right beside him.
"How was your day, Mel?"
"It could have been better, Bill. Yours?"
He let out a long sigh before answering, "Hmm, it was long, but good."
"Billie?"
"Mel?"
"How much do you want for rent?"
"What?"
"I don't know how long I'll be staying here. So how much do you want for rent."
"Well, let's see... How 'bout NOTHING!"
"Billie, I am not just gonna live here an-"
"Yes Melody, you are. And besides, I only want one thing, and it's not rent money." I looked at him. He had an evil little grin on his face.
"Billie! Whatever."
"WHAT? I wanted some pizza. Gosh Mel, someone's mind is in the gutter."
"It's your fault."
"Is not."
"SO IS!" he laughed at me. I just rolled my eyes.
"How is it my fault, MEL?"
"You made me this way. Before I met you, I was just an innocent, little girl."
"OH, whatever. You're the one who had a quickie with the quarterback of the football team in the janitors closet in high school."
"I was a virgin when I met you, Mr. Armstrong."
"HA, that's the best one I've heard yet."
"I'm serious."
"Mel, you're so pretty when you lie."
I leaned in closer to him. I know, it's wrong, but have you seen this guy? It's hard to control yourself. You're not exactly thinking' with your head. "Only when I lie," I said in a whisper, allowing my breath to touch his skin.
"No," was all he said, before our lips met a second time.

Billie's POV

WHAT ARE YOU DOOOING, Billie? You know you want to ask me this. What? Why? I'll tell you. I was kissing Melody, that's WHAT I was doing. Because, for the first time in fifteen years, I was kissing the only woman I will ever be in love with. Yes, I know I told everyone "Adie is the only woman I'll ever love." But to love and BE in love... It's completely different. I felt her tongue slid out of my mouth. "Billie, I'm-"
"Not gonna say anything, you're just going to be in this moment. You're just going to be with me."
"What about Adie an-"
"Hold on," I said a I pulled my phone out of my coat pocket, that I had laid over the arm of the couch. I dialed my home phone. "Adie, hey. Yeah, I'm ok... But listen, I'm gonna go back to the studio, and I don't know when I'll be in. No, they're not gonna be... 'Cause I need to work on some things. Ok o... Ok. Yeah. Bye."
"Billie, you shouldn't have-"
"I have waited fifteen year for you, Mel."
"You are married, Billie, you can't just-"
"It's not working."
"Wha... What are you-"
"My marriage. We don't even sleep in the same room anymore. I know it's gonna end soon."
"Billie, I'm sorry. I-"
"You don't have to say anything. I tried to make it work, Mel, I honestly did, but... Adie, she just... I know about her other guys, the ones she says are just her friends. She thinks I'm... "
"Billie, go home. Go spend time with your wife. Your kids, when's the last time you played 'X-BOX' with them? When it's meant to happen, it will. Don't just do this because you think it's ok, since your wife does it to you. Don't play life like that. Play it so you can honestly say 'Adie, I never once did anything with anyone but you for as long as we've been married'."
"What if this is how it's meant to happen, Mel? What if I'm supposed to stay here, with you?"
"If it were, you wouldn't have to call anyone and lie to them, Billie."
I sighed, knowing she was right. I stood up. "I'll see you later, ok Mel?"
"Goodbye Billie. I'll see you soon, I'm sure." She smiled; oh God how she smiled was so beautiful.

"Adie, I'm home," I shouted as I walked in to the house. I looked around, and my kids were nowhere to be seen. I walked into my kitchen and looked out the window. She was playing with out children in the back yard. I smiled to my self as I watched. And, I knew that Mel was right... When it was meant to, it would happen.

Melody's POV

Ok, ok, ok, so maybe I'm stupid. I should have let it happen. But, unlike some people, I like to sleep at night. Things started becoming normal again. I got up every morning, went to work, came home, went to bed, and did it all over again the next day. It had been about three months since I had seen Billie, but I talked to him every day. I knew he wasn't mad; he just needed to get things together. But I was still worried about his marriage...

Billie's POV

"GOD DAM IT ADI, YOU JUST HAD TO GO AND FUCKIN FUCK SOMEONE DIDN'T YOU?!?!"
"WELL, Billie, IT'S NOT LIKE YOU'RE EVER HERE FOR ME TO FUCK!"
WHAT'S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?"
"YOU ARE NEVER HERE!"
"WELL, MAYBE I SHOULDN'T BE HERE NOW!"
"MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T!"

Melody's POV

He was at my door. Just knocking at 3 am. Something was wrong.
"Billie," I said as I opened the door, "are you o-"
"I need to stay here for a while... Is that ok?"
"It's your house, not mine. What's wrong?"
"We, Adie and myself, send the boys to my mom's for two weeks, so we could have some 'alone time', and I get home tonight with roses and shit and just all these ideas on how I was gonna make up never being home to her, and I walk in and she's fucking some guy... In our bed, Mel. Our bed. And then she says "you're never home" and I say "maybe I shouldn't be here now" and she says "maybe you shouldn't" so, I left."
We just sat there, at the kitchen table for, I don't know, maybe thirty minutes, just in total silence. "Billie?"
"What?"
"I love you."
"I love you."
"I'm sorry, you know, about Adie."
"Ya know, I can't honestly say that I didn't expect this. Sooner of later, I knew it was bound to go wrong. I'm... I'm ok with it. I just want to move on now."
"Do you wanna go to bed?"
"Yeah, that sounds great. I'm sleepy."
"Come on," I said as I grabbed his hand and led him towards the bedroom, "me too."
"Mel," he said as we reached the door.
"Yeah?"
"Will you stay with me, in here, tonight. I don't think I wanna be alone."
