Speechless And Redundant, chapter 31
When I had composed myself enough, I entered Auberi's room. I saw her and broke into tears again. She was lying in the bed, her breath shallow, the heart monitor beating slowly and shiftily. Cuts and bruises covered her face, which was a deathly white. I slowly walked over to her and kneeled by her bed. Taking her cold hand, I let my tears drip over it. "Auberi. Please, you need to wake up. I need you. I am a better person because of you. If I lose you, I don't know how I will live. It was you who taught me to live, adn how to love with all my heart. You can't die," I whispered, my whole body shaking with tears, my breath rattling with each gasping sob. I held her hand up to my cheek and lay my head on it.
Outside the door, I heard screaming. "Tell me where she is!" a voice screamed. "Please, Mr. Cool, calm down. She's right down the hall!" another voice yelled. Tre burst through the door to Auberi's room. He stopped when he saw Auberi. I looked up at him. I felt so helpless and heartbroken.
Tre's POV
I burst through the door and saw Billie kneeling by Auberi. He looked up at me, and I saw his eyes. The eyes that were usually so green and cheerful were grey. They seemed to sink back in his head. But it was what I saw in his eyes. I saw pain and sorrow so deep. They had the look of someone gone to hell and back; someone who's life was only filled with sadness. It was the most pitiful look I had ever seen.
"Billie Joe, I am so sorry," was all I could say. Billie just turned his head. I couldn't stand to see him this way, so I just walked back out.
Billie's POV
I got up and sat in a chair, never letting go of Auberi's hand. Holding her hand was all I could do to hold her life. i was so exhausted that I fell asleep.
I awoke ot the beating of Auberi's heart monitor. When I looked at her, I was surprised. Her eyes flickered open, and she looked at me. "Oh, Billie," she whispered. "Auberi! You're alive!" I shouted. "I thought I would never see you again!" I cried. "Billie, I love you. I love you sooo much. I'm so sorry!" she croaked. "Auberi, what are you talking about?" I said softly. "I'm sorry, Billie Joe. I love you," she just whispered again. I suddenly knew what she was talking about. "Auberi, you have nothing to be sorry about. I will always love you. Goodbye, Auberi," I sniffled. "Goodbye, Billie Joe. I love you. Always remember that. Remember your promise," she whispered. The heart monitor went from a shaky beat to a straight line. She was gone. I kissed her softly on the lips before standing up and leaving the room.
