Don't Leave Me, chapter 15

*Billie Joe's POV*

The next 4 months had been great. Natalie's stomach was a little bigger. And she had this beauty that all pregnant women seem to have.

I was sitting in the waiting room of the doctor's office. Natalie was having an ultra sound. Today was the day we would find out whether the babies were girls or boys. That's right. She was going to have twins. We found that out last month.

It seemed like I had been waiting there forever when Natalie walked back into the waiting room. I stood up and smiled at her.

"What are they? Girls or boys?" I asked her anxiously.

"One girl and one boy," She replied. I didn't know what to say. I hugged and kissed her and we went out to the car and drove home.

Natalie slipped off her shoes and turned to me.

"Now that we know what gender the babies are," She said, "we should start getting the nursery ready."

"Yeah. we have three extra rooms up there, not including ours. So should we put them in the same room or should they have their own?" I asked.

"I think we should put them both in the biggest room. Then, when they are older they can have their own rooms," She suggested.

"Good idea."

"How does light yellow paint sound? I mean since that is a more nuetral color? Well..for babies anyway," She asked. I smiled.

"Sounds good."

*No one's POV*

The next day, Natalie and Billie Joe went to a few different stores that sold baby furniture. They spent the whole day talking about what they would name each baby and just enjoying eachother's company. By the time they had gotten home, they had everything they needed for the babies room. Most of the furniture wouldn't be coming to the house until 2 weeks later. Billie Joe and Natalie were going to get the paint for the room tomorow and then spend the week getting that room ready. The reason why they were doing it so early was because Natalie would have alot of trouble when her stomach got bigger and they both new that there was no way in hell Billie Joe would want to do it by himself.

Natalie climbed into bed where Billie Joe was already patiantly waiting for her. She pulled the covers up to her chin and snuggled in closer to him.

"Nat," Billie Joe said after a few seconds of silance.

"Yeah?"

"Why don't you ever talk about your parents?" He asked. Natalie sighed.

"I don't know. I guess when I moved out here we just kind of lost touch." She said sadly.

"So you haven't talked to them in over 10 years?" Billie Joe looked at her with a shocked expresion on his face.

"Pretty much."

"That's not right. They don't even know you're pregnant?" He already new the answer to that question. Natalie hesitated before saying anything.

"No," She couldn't seem to let any other words excape her throat. Billie Joe held her tighter, seeing that she was upset.

"I feel so...bad," She finally said, "all these years, I couldn't at least give them a quick call. Just to say hello," She said quietly. Tears started to well up in her eyes. "I don't know why I ever let this happen."

"It's ok," He tried to comfort her.

"No. It's not ok," She said quietly. Suddenly, she sat up. "I'v got to talk to them."

Billie Joe stared at her, confused. Natalie got out of the bed went downstairs. She found the phone and dialed the number she had engraved in her brain for so many years before she came to California.

'I hope this is still their number,' She thought over and over.

"Hello?" She heard a quiet, tired sounding voice on the other end. Tears began to fall down her face. She knew exactly who it was on the other end.

"Mom," She choked.

"Natalie? Is that you?" She suddenly sounded alot more awake and alert then before. Natalie smiled.

"Yeah mom. It's me."

"Oh my god!" She could tell that her mother was now also crying. Natalie turned around when she felt someone's hand land softly on her soulder. She looked up at Billie Joe and smiled.

"There is so much I have to tell you. Do you want me to call back tomorow? I mean, I know it must be late where you are," She said.

"Good heavens no! I want to talk to you right now!" Her mother's weak voice filled her ear.

Natalie took a deep breath and slowly explained everything that had happened to her since she left Connecticut. She was extremely surprised that her mother hadn't fallen asleep through any of it. Finally, Natalie came to the part about when she met Billie Joe.

"And, so me and Billie have been together ever since then," She explained to her mom.

"That sounds wonderful, honey."

"I have one more thing to tell you, mom."

"Ok what's that?" She sounded curious. Natalie looked at Billie Joe, who looked like he was about to fall asleep and fall off the chair he was sitting on. He had patiantly and silently waited there in the kitchen.

"Hold on one sec," She covered the phone with her palm and looked at Billie.

"You can go back to bed, baby. I'm sorry that this is taking so long," She said. Billie Joe looked relieved.

"You sure?" He said before standing up. Natalie nodded. He planted a kiss on her forehead and she said she would be up in a few minutes. He nodded and headed up the stairs.

"Ok, sorry about that."

"Don't worry about it. Now what did you want to tell me?" Her mother sounded anxious to her what she had to say.

"I- I'm four months pregnant," She said and closed her eyes waiting for a reaction.

"Oh, Natalie. I'm so happy for you. I really am," Her mom sounded like she was going to cry again.

"I'm having twins." She heard her mother gasp. "One is a girl and one is a boy," She added.

"My goodness! You're going to have your hands full!" Her mother replied. Natalie let out a small laugh.

"I should go. I'm sure you're tired and Billie Joe is waiting for me." She said sadly, but she knew she wouldn't be able to talk forever.

"Ok. It was so nice to talk to you again. You really have no idea how much this whole conversation has done for me," Her mom agreed.

"I promise I will call you once a week. I never want to loose touch with you again."

"Ok, bye honey. I love you," Her mother said kindly.

"I love you too, mom. Bye," She said and hung up.

Natalie went back upstairs to the bedroom that night with a huge smile on her face.

"Thank you so much," She said while Billie Joe pulled her closer to his body. He looked at her confused.

"For what?" He asked.

"For bringing up my mom and dad. If it wasn't for you, I would have never called them," She said and kissed him soflty on the lips.

"Your welcome," He said and kissed her back before they both fell into a peaceful sleep.

*****

It was the day before all the baby furniture would arrive. Natalie and Billie Joe stood in the new room, admiring their hard work. They had, infact, painted the walls light yellow. It was a nice pale yellow. Not the yellow that could blind you. The room was all ready for the furniture to be moved in. Tre was going to stop by for a little while. He had called and said he was bored so he was coming over.

Then they heard the doorbell ring. But before either of them could answer it, Tre burst in.

"Fuckers, I'm here!" He yelled imitating Ricky from "I Love Lucy". He ran up the stairs and into the room where they were.

"Hey Tre," Natalie said and smiled at him. Tre was starring at the walls.

"So, this is going to be the babies' room?" He said, his eyes still fixated on the walls. Billie Joe nodded.

"I like it. Now if they pee on them, it won't stain!" He sniggered. Billie Joe almost toppled over in laughter. Natalie starred at the both of them in horror. She slapped her hand to her forehead and sighed.

"I feel like I'm already taking care of two kids" She muttered, but then also laughed.

Later that night, Tre and Billie Joe got very drunk and both passed out in the livingroom. Natalie smirked at the sight of them and went back into the kitchen.

'I should leave the asprin out,' She thought to herself and got it out of the medicine cabinet in the bathroom. She placed it on the counter top and went up stairs to bed.
