A Life Through Letters, chapter 6
*NOBODY*
Jaslina picked up a heavy green bowling ball, and aimed for the pins on the other side of the lane. Mike watched the spot of green slowly move towards the pins, and then came the sound of the pins falling to the floor. Just one was left, wobbling around just ready to fall.
"Strike, dammit!" Jaslina screamed.
The last pin spun around another time, and finally fell over. "Yes!"
"Woah! You're good," Mike said.
"Thanks," Jaslina replied with a little smile, "Screaming always does the trick."
Alix headed towards the alley with a red bowling ball. A few seconds later, there was an X on the T.V. screen above them. "Woot!"
Tre looked at Mike, "Are we the only people who don't know how to bowl?"
Mike shrugged his shoulders, "I guess so."
Billie Joe walked back to the bowling alley, "Hey, the entire arcade is empty."
Jaslina automatically said, "Ooooooh," getting up, and heading towards the room lit up with flashing lights.
"You guys want to come?" Billie Joe asked.
The three of them looked at each other, "Sure, why not."
"Tre Cool has claimed the pinball machine!" Tre scream out loud, trying to make himself sound like a sports commentator.
"Who's up for a game of air hockey?" Mike asked.
"Ooh, Ooh! Me!" Jaslina ran to the glowing air hockey table.
"You want to play this fancy looking version of Hungry Hippos?" Alix turned around to ask Billie Joe.
He replied a while later with a small smile, "As long as I get the orange hippo."
"Aww. That was such a shitty game!" Tre yelled at the pinball machine.
"I think using the proper controls might help." Jaslina explained, as she was waiting for Mike to get back from the washroom.
"But these are the only ones I can see."
"Um, you're using the power button... use the buttons on the side."
"Wow, do I feel stupid. Thanks... uh."
"Jaslina."
"Thanks Jaslina."
She smiled back at Tre, who turned around for a second.
"I'm Tre."
"Hey, Tre. Ha, that rhymed."
"Hello, my trusty old green hippo... " Alix said, talking to the plastic hungry hippo.
"Okay, are you ready?" Billie Joe asked looking up at Alix.
"As ready as I'll ever be," he replied.
"1, 2, 3. Go!"
The hippos went crazy, in an instant. Grabbing every bit of fake food the hippos could reach, they started to look like they were attacking each other.
The loud clinking sounds of the pinball machine started to get even noisier. "Booyah!" Tre yelled out.
Mike walked into the arcade and went up to his end of the air hockey table. "Sorry, I took so long. Someone had a big load... "
Jaslina raised an eyebrow.
"And it wasn't me."
"Okay, if you say so. Are you ready?"
"Sure am."
The little red puck was dropped onto the table, and it seemed to be more attracted to Jaslina's goal, than Mike's. She quickly shot the puck, trying to force it to go in the left side of the goal. It bounced of the corner rapidly, and headed towards Jaslina, again.
It was the last piece of 'food' in between the orange and green plastic hippos. Alix looked up at Billie Joe, who was staring back at him. The hippos started to attack each other, once again.
*JASLINA*
"Oh, shit. Alix, we have to pick up Emm, at the airport in half an hour," I said, looked at the time. It was already half past one.
"Oh, you're right. We better get going."
"Sorry guys. We have to pick up a friend. I had a good time," I said, taking out a pen from my jeans' pocket.
"We had a good time too," the three of them said, strangely in unison.
I grabbed a napkin and wrote my phone number on it. "You guys call, and maybe we can hang out again," I said handing the tall one the napkin, "Oh, and we still don't know all your names."
"Mike."
"Billie Joe."
"Tre."
"And I'm Alix, and this is Jaslina, by the way."
I told myself, "Mike, Billie Joe, Tre," making sure I wouldn't forget.
"Okay, well gotta run. See you guys soon," I said.
"Bye guys," Alix said, waving goodbye.
We walked outside, finding the sky had cleared, and got into the car.
"Alix, do you even know where the airport is?"
"No."
"Let me drive," I said getting out of the car, again.
And soon we were off.
*MIKE*
Jaslina handed a napkin to me with her number on it. She told us to call her later. They had to go pick someone named Emm from the airport, I think.
"So...what do you want to do now?" Billie asked.
"Let's go watch a movie or something," Tre suggested.
"Are there even any good movies playing?" I asked.
"I'm not sure. Why don't we just go to the theatre, and check out what's playing?" Tre replied.
"Doesn't seem so bad to me," I said.
"Sure, why not?"
We went out of the building and crossed the road more cautiously than before, making sure nobody would be hit by a car again.
*NOBODY*
[AT THE AIRPORT]
"I'm getting tired of looking for her."
"Don't you have her cell phone number?" Alix questioned Jaslina, who was continuing to look around.
"No. I had it in my phone, but someone stole it."
"Then how the fuck are we supposed to find her?"
"And I should know?"
"Yes."
"Well, too bad, I don't."
"Didn't she tell you where she was going to be?"
"Oh, of course she did. I just feel like standing here, looking completely lost."
"Let's just go to the second luggage room."
"Sure."
They walked inside after finally finding the place, and walked in circles, round and round, while being pushed and kicked by stranger with their bags that came in a variety of colours. Black, to green, to purple, to rainbow. They sat down in the empty corner of the room.
"I give up," Jaslina said.
"I do, too," Alix agreed, resting his elbows on his knees, and his held up his head with his hands.
Nobody talked for a while, until Jaslina screamed at the top of her lungs, "Where the fucking hell are you Emm?"
The ring of people, around their luggage, suddenly shifted to the left, pushing a few people out. Someone flew out and nearly slammed into Alix.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," she apologized, backing away.
"No it's okay. Oh my gosh! It's you Emm!"
The girl looked up at Alix, "Alix! Jas!" She hugged the both of them individually.
"I had so much fun. I tried to call you, but some guy with an extremely low voice picked up and said, 'hey sexy,' so I hung up."
"Somebody stole my phone," Jaslina said, laughing quietly.
"Oh well, you won't believe who was there!" Emm said excitedly.
Jaslina picked up a heavy green bowling ball, and aimed for the pins on the other side of the lane. Mike watched the spot of green slowly move towards the pins, and then came the sound of the pins falling to the floor. Just one was left, wobbling around just ready to fall.
