Away From Here, chapter 4
"Hey Kate! Are you ready yet?" Mike shouted at me through the door. "Hold on a minute will ya?" she shouted back. Today was their first day rehersing for 'American Idiot'. Before she pulled a pair of faded jeans on she looked sadly at the place on her leg where she had carved 'Sarah'. Tears started to roll down her cheeks. As she sat there she promised herself that she would do this show for Sarah. "Fine then! We're leaving without you!" She was dragged out of her world by Mikes shouting. She jerked on the jeans put on a tank top and ran out the door. She ran right into Billie Joe......again. He caught her by the elbow preventing her from falling on her ass. He held on to her for a minute. Thoughts were going through his head. Time seemed to stand still as he thought "Wow..... Mike and Tre already left..... I wonder if she would let me..... No Billie! She probably doesn't think of you like that, you need to get over yourself.....but still...." he was about to finish the thought when Kate's voice came interupted him. "Billie Joe? You can let me go now." "Oh right.....sorry." He mumbled. She laughed as they walked out the door and down into the lobby to catch up with Mike and Tre.
Mike and Tre were waiting in the lobby for them. "Damn Kate! It looks like we finally found someone who takes longer then Billie Joe to get ready!" Tre exclaimed as we walked up to him. "Oh shut up." Billie Joe said. "Oh my! I feel special! I have a man defending my valor!" We all started to laugh as I put my hand against my forehead like I was going to faint. We walked out to car, still laughing and by the time we got to the theater.
It was dark by the time they were finished rhearsing.They got a car and walked back into the lobby where Billie Joe Mike and Tre were swarmed with fans. Kate was pushed out of the way by teenagers with sharpies and CD cases. She waved to Billie Joe to let him know that she would meet them upstairs. She opened the door and walked inside. Dropping her coat at the door she started to walk to the couch but stopped in her tracks. There, sitting on the couch.......was her dad. She tried to run to her room but her dad quickly caught her before she could shut her door. "Your coming back home with me Kate." "YOU CALL THAT HELL HOLE A HOME?" She was getting mad....
Billie Joe had slipped away from the crowd as the screaming girls had gotten their fill of him. He was almost to the door when he heard screaming. "NO! GET AWAY FROM ME!!!" It sounded like Kate. Then another voice interupted her screaming. "GOD DAMNIT KATE! JUST COME WITH ME!" This voice was rougher and more violent. There was one last paniced scream from Kate of "No! Please don't....NO! GET AWAY FROM ME!!!!" Then there was a sickening 'thud'. Billie Joe's pulse quickened. He ran to the top of the stairs and ran to the door. He opened it and ran into the room. He stopped suddenly and stared, horrified. There was a small pool of blood at his feet coming from Kate. "Holt shit! Kate!" He screamed. Right then Tre and Mike walked through the door. They saw Billie Joe kneeling in front of Kate. It took them a minute to realize what was happening. "Oh my god! Kate! What happened?!?!" Mike screamed at Billie Joe. "I don't know I heard her shouting at some guy and then I heard a thud." Billie Joe answered. He looked down at her. Her soft brown hair was mixed in with the blood. He pushed it out of face revealing her smooth creamy skin. He looked longingly at her closed eyes. "Well we better get her cleaned up and make sure shes ok. We might have to take her to the hospital...." Tre added worridly. They carried her to the bathroom and cleaned up her cuts. As they looked Billie Joe noticed lots of old cuts and bruised. "Holy shit." He thought. He looked at ehr face again. This time she opened her eyes. She looked into Billie Joe eyes. They were a sea of sorrowful green..... He suddenly looked extremly releived. "Thank god. Are you ok? I walked in and found you on the floor with blood all around you." Kate nodded and said "I'm ok." while wincing. He just nodded, waiting for more information. They finished cleaning up and bandaging her cuts. There were some all over her arms and face. When they were done Mike said "Well lets get you into bed! You probably are exhausted." Kate tried to smile but winced instead. They carried her into her room and set her down on the bed. Billie Joe pulled the covers over her and turned the light off. "Goodnight Kate." he whispered before he left.
