There Were Places We Would Go At Midnight..., chapter 11
Tre's POV
I walked into the room to find Adie lying next to Billie in the bed. I just about melted. I went over and shook her gently to wake her up.
"Adie, hun." She stirred, then turned over and blinked up at me.
"Oh.. Hi Tre," she tried desperately to smile at me, but it decieved her brave front.
"Sweetie, why don't you go get something to eat. I'll stay here with him." She nodded and got up reluctantly, kissing Billie's forehead before she went. I couldn't believe she was there for him after all he had done for her. That showed something between them deeper than I could have thought possible. I sat in the chair beside his bed as Adie left. It had only been a few minutes when the door opened again, and there was Sarah. Oh, god, this kid couldn't take a hint. She came over and took Billie's hand.
"Um... Why are you here?" I asked her.
"I'm here for my boyfriend." She stated, matter-of-factly.
"Yeah, I don't think he's your boyfriend. He's married, very much in love, and, frankly, thinks you're a total bitch." She sort of huffed at me and went on looking at Billie while I prayed Adie didn't walk in. Billie's eyes sort of flickered. Oh, shit.
"A-adie?" He muttered, not yet awake.
"Sshhh, shh, it's ok, I'm here.. Sarah. Sa-rah." She pronounced it for him. Oh, crap, NOW he was awake. He ripped his hand out of hers.
"Why are you here? Get the fuck out. I want my wife." He looked to me like a small child. "I want Adie."
"Alright, bud, I'll go get her. She's just getting something to eat. She's been here with you the whole time." That seemed to take the weight of the world off of his shoulders.
"As for you," I addressed Sarah, "If you aren't the fuck out of here in the next 30 seconds I'm calling security on your ass." She looked sort of shocked, then turned on her heel and walked out in a huff. She met Adie in the hallway, and sort of shoved her shoulder "accidentally."
"Bitch," Adie muttered. I found her a few feet farther down the hall and stopped her.
"He wants you. He woke up and kicked Sarah out, and... He just really needs you." Adie stared at me for a moment and sort of jogged to Billie's room. I walked in a minute later to find her standing over him, his hand in hers. I closed the door and went to the waiting room to join Mike and give them some space. They had some stuff to work out.
Adie's POV
A few weeks later and Billie was home. He still had a brace on his leg and had to hobble around with crutches at first, but was slowly getting the hang of walking on the brace. We had talked through everything. We both knew the truth, the whole truth, of each other's stories. Billie had put off starting the album for a year so he could stay home with us. And, in my opinion, our marriage was at about the best it had ever been.
