There Were Places We Would Go At Midnight..., chapter 8
Sarah's POV
"Wow," I said to him. "It's even better when you're sober." He laughed. I propped my head up on my pillow and just sort of watched him stare at the ceiling for a minute. Twice in less than two days we had fucked now. I was surprised his wife wasn't dead. I told him this.
"Yeah well, apparantly even I'm not good enough for her." I looked at him quizzically.
"Oh?"
"Yeah," he sighed. "Turns out she's cheated on me like 5 times. Once with my best friend. Who, might I add, is now making out with my other best friend." I felt my jaw drop.
"Are you serious? Mike.. And TRE? That's just weird."
"Well, if it's weird for a fan, imagine how it must be for me." He ran his hand through his sexy- oops- hair.
"Yeah.. Wow. I'm sorry about your wife, though. Seems like the shit just sort of hit the fan for you today."
He laughed, in spite of the situation. God, that was a sexy laugh. I couldn't really help it, I had to kiss him again. We eventually broke apart, and I had to get something out of my head.
"Billie?"
"Mm?"
"Why- why did you come back? I mean, the first time we were drunk so that kind of made sense. But-"
"What, surprised that I still like you when I'm sober?" He laughed. "Well, I do. A lot. And I didn't want to say it before- hell, I didn't even want to think it, but now that my marriage is pretty much over it doesnt matter: I think you're better for me than Adie ever was. I mean, I've only spent less than a day with you and I can already tell that you are a lot more my type. I just.. I don't know... I'm crazy about you, and I don't even know you. That has to say something right?"
I smiled in spite of myself. "I think it says a lot." And I kissed him again.. And again... And, well you get the picture. I couldn't help it. I was crazy about him too! I always had been, but man, to love him in person is a completely different thing. Well, I mean, I didn't LOVE him.. Not yet anyway.
Billie's POV
I walked down the hall hand in hand with Sarah. This was going to be hard, and I needed someone there.. Well, not just someone. I he'sitated outside of Tre's door for a minute before knocking.
"Are you guys done... You know... Yet?" Sarah sort of laughed. I shrugged at her. I didn't know what to say! What do you say when your two best friends are making out?
I heard someone come over to the door, and then Mike was standing in front of me.
"Thank god," Mike exhaled. "We thought you.. Well, you didn't so that's all that matters." Then he noticed Sarah. "Oh, hey... Lobby.. Girl..."
"Sarah," she reached her hand out and he shook it. I pushed past Mike and kind of dragged Sarah into the room.
"Already toting her around like a purse, are we?" Mike said from behind me. She looked back at him and laughed. "Well, I'm the perfect accessory." Mike smiled. "Yeah, so was Adie." Wow... That's awkward. Whatever, I was ignoring him anyway. My focus was all on Tre. I dropped Sarah's hand and knelt down beside where he was lying on the bed. He smiled at me, and I felt a pang of guilt in my stomach.
"Hey, man. Are you doing ok?" Tre shifted the ice that was on his eye a little.
"Yeah. I'm OK." I couldn't believe him. I had just knocked the guy out and he was still acting like everything was fine between us.
"Look, man, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I.. Well... It's not even really your fault. Adie's really... Convincing sometimes.. And... You aren't even the only one, for christ's sake! I'm just sorry you got dragged into the middle of this." Tre smiled. It was really nice to see him smile, I have to admit. Before I had come in I had half-expected him to hit me back.
"Thanks, man. You have no idea what a relief that is." I stood up and turned to Mike.
"Now about you two little lovebirds." I said, indicating he and Tre.
Sarah's POV
I pointed behind me. "Maybe I should-"
"No." he cut me off. "I-can't, without... I need you.." I could tell that was really hard for him to say, and I felt a knot form in my throat, which I swallowed. I sat down on the bed.
"How long has this thing.. This... Fiasco.. Been going on?" Mike sort of shuffled his feet and Tre sat up, taking the ice pouch down from his eye. He was the first to speak.
"Uh... About a year?" he guessed, looking to Mike, who nodded. Billie looked taken aback.
"A YEAR? A whole fucking year? Wow, way to tell me guys. God, how could I have been that stupid? I mean how could I not have noticed it? We were on tour half the time, for God's sake."
"Well, we tried really hard to hide it. We wanted to wait until the tour was over to tell you, but.." Tre looked really uncomfortable with this, but I knew it was nothing to what Billie was feeling. He came over and sat down next to me, and I sublty put my hand on his. He smiled at me, letting me know it was helping. I guess Mike thought the whole thing was OK now, because he went and sat next to Tre on the bed, and copied me and Billie, taking Tre's hand in his. Billie pretended not to notice, but squeezed my hand a little tighter.
"Wait, a year? So.. Tre, when you and Adie... You were still with Mike?" Tre hung his head.
"See, you aren't the only one who got cheated on." Mike replied.
"I'm sorry! Like you said, Adie's really convincing!" Billie laughed, which I thought was a bold thing to do considering the situation. Then realization seemed to hit him.
"Aw fuck. What am I going to tell the boys?" He hung his head, and I kissed the top of it soothingly.
"Wow," I said to him. "It's even better when you're sober." He laughed. I propped my head up on my pillow and just sort of watched him stare at the ceiling for a minute. Twice in less than two days we had fucked now. I was surprised his wife wasn't dead. I told him this.
