There Were Places We Would Go At Midnight..., chapter 9

Two hours had gone by and Billie was still pacing around the room with his cell up to his ear, trying to get a hold of Adie who was obviously ignoring him. Sarah was sitting next to Tre and they were looking through the Green Day issue of Rolling Stone. Mike was drinking his coffee and staring off into space, as usual.
Finally Billie gave up and clicked his phone shut. He stood there for a minute with his hands on his hips, thinking.
"So who's this daughter Jolie you never told us about?" Tre broke the silence. Billie just kind of looked at him like he was on drugs. "What are you talking about?"
"In here man," Tre replied, indicating the magazine in front of him. "It says, 'It's a children's book about saying good night, stuff like that. Me and my wife read it to my daughter Jolie every night.'" Billie grabbed he magazine from him, reading it.
"What the fuck. I didn't say that. I said JOEY. How hard is that to figure out, its a freaking normal name." Billie handed the magazine back to Tre. "Geez, that's pathetic. And in Rolling Stone, too. It's not like they're exactly new at this." Sarah laughed, but jumped as Billie's phone rang loudly. He ran over to it.
"Hello? Adie, where the hell- whatever it doesn't matter. What? Adie, does that really matter at this point? Look, I'm just calling to tell you..it's over." His voice cracked a little, and he sort of turned away from everyone else in the room. "No, we can't work it out. Look, it's just gotten out of hand. I'm obviously not enough for you so why should I force you to stay with me? Just..go get what you want. I won't be home for like a month so I'll send you the papers. Adie, stop. Save some dignity, for Christ's sake. It's over, alright? So just collect yourself and move on. Because I have." He hung up, sighed deeply, and went over to the unoccupied bed, plopping himself down heavily.
"You OK man?" Tre asked him, concerned. Billie sighed.
"Yeah..I think so..." He turned to Sarah. "Can we go take a walk or something?"
"Yeah, yeah of course." She got up and took his hand and they walked around the hotel grounds for about two hours before the show, talking about everything that was going on and where they were going to go from there.
"Sarah," he finally broke the silence. She was startled, but regained her composure.
"Yeah?" He sighed.
"Will you come with me? I know it's a lot to ask, but this tour would just be so much easier if you were there. And you don't even have to-" Billie was cut off by Sarah's lips covering his own. She pulled away and smiled, looking up into his eyes.
"I'll be there the whole time."

A month later

Billie was packing the rest of his stuff up to get ready to finally go home. Sarah was going to live with him for a while in a spare apartment he had near Tre's house for when he really needed to write. She didn't really have a permanent home, so it wasn't a big deal for her to uproot. Billie sat on his luggage, trying desperately to close it. How had he accumulated this much stuff? Finally he had it closed and ready to go. He knocked on the bathroom door where Sarah had been for about an hour.
"Sarah? Are you OK? I mean, you didn't fall in or anything right?"
Suddenly the door opened and Sarah was standing there looking at him with a hint of a tear in her eye. Suddenly she handed him something small and white. He looked down at the object in his hand and saw a symbol that changed everything in a moment. A plus. +. Positive. He looked up at her.
"Holy fuck." Sarah stared at him, not sure what he was going to do. But his shocked face faded into a smile, and he grabbed her in his arms and spun her around, and when he put her down he held her, and she whispered in his ear.
"I take it you aren't mad then." He released her.
"Mad? Why the fuck would I be mad? This is great!" Sarah laughed in spite of herself. Well, if he thought it was great, then it was great.
