These Friends Of Mine, chapter 1
Jade Smith is an accomplished business woman, only twenty one years of age. She is beautiful and smart, though some how remains single. Men seem to pass her by and note her as far too superior for them...But she doesn't mind it much. She's learned to roll with the punches, so to speak.
- Now -
She was looking out of her office window again, daydreaming. Though her job paid well, she always grew bored of the same redundant work every day. It soothed her to look out of the window and into the Californian sky...one that always had the sun gleaming in it's midst.
She smiled to herself at a memory she had recalled of 'the old days' as she stared at the sun. The old days were the best, in her opinion, and she would never forget them. For a few minutes more, she looked at the sun. The same sun that had shinned down on her and her now 'forgotten' friends around five years ago...
- Flash back -
It was a hot summer day and Jade and her group of friends were walking back from a trip to the beach. They were joking with each other as the sun pounded on their backs and legs. Jade had a towel wrapped around her waist and her friend, Mike, had his arm wrapped around her shoulder. Adrienne and Billie Joe were flirting again, as usual, and Tre was attempting to put sand down everyone's swim suits.
Mike tripped him and he fell to the scorching hot sand cussing as the others laughed. Tre got to his feet with a handful of sand and threw it at Mike...sort of. It sprayed in the air and instead of hitting just Mike, it hit everyone else as well. Billie Joe went for Tre.
"Bee, don't!" Adrienne called after him. He turned his head and smiled.
"Fine." he replied, walking back to her.
Mike grinned and leaned closer to Jade. "Those two should hook up." he whispered.
"Meh...I guess. They'd be cute." she shrugged.
Mike paused. "...Erm...Have a feeling they wouldn't be the only cute ones either. I mean, with how long I've known-"
"Tre, yea...I know. He would be so perfect for whatsherface who lives next to Billie." she cut him off, not realizing what he was getting at. Mike straightened up to a normal pose.
"Yea...sure, Tre and Kindra." he mumbled.
He had longed to date Jade ever since he met her. He just, couldn't find the right time to ask her out. And he figured, with the band, he'd basically never see her once they started touring, so why bother? Well, possibly because he didn't know she liked him as well, but it just frustrated him...Oh the many times and ways he had tried to ask her out.
They walked an hour more and arrived on the front steps of Mike and Billie Joe's house. They led the way in. Inside it was quiet and peaceful, nobody seemed to be home except for them. Billie got an evil grin and marched up the steps to his bedroom.
"What's with him?" Tre asked.
"He's getting the drugs again." Mike answered merrily. He loved it when Billie grabbed his stash.
Mike plopped down on the couch and invited Jade to sit next to him. She did and he shakily put his arm around her shoulder again. This time he wouldn't fuck up. Jade shot him an odd glance as he fumbled for the right words to say, then got off the couch and went into the kitchen.
'Shit.' he told himself as Billie pounded down the steps. He tossed Mike a lighter and joint, then lit one off himself. Billie sat down in a chair as Tre, Jade, and Adrienne spread out on the floor. They passed the two joints around for a long while...
Mike opened his eyes after a long nap to find everyone else sleeping soundly around him. The two joints had been taken care of by one of them, for there wasn't even a trace of the smell left in the air. He looked at Jade and smiled. She was sleeping on the floor next to Adrienne, not making a noise.
Suddenly Billie Joe and Tre both shot awake, awkwardly at the same time. They looked at each other with puzzled eyes, scratched their heads, and then Billie shrugged. He ran his hands through his thick mane of hair.
"Llama faced flying monkeys?" he asked Tre. Tre nodded.
The two of them stood up and ran out of the house. Mike looked around strangely as Adrienne began to wake up...what was that all about? On second thought, he'd rather not know. Then Billie and Tre raced back in the house, laughing loudly and scaring Jade awake
"More shit anyone?" Billie asked. He had a bagged brick of cocaine in one hand and a bag of marijuana in the other. He watched as his friends perked up.
"And the party lives on!" Mike shouted.
- Now -
But, the party didn't live on too far after that. The group of friends drifted apart...well, Jade drifted from the others that is. She had wanted to attend college, which she did, and just didn't have time for them.
She smiled to herself and began to pack up her things, it was time to head home. On her way out of her office, she locked the door and grabbed her car keys. All she wanted to do now was go home an rest on the couch whilst watching TV.
About fifteen minutes later she had her TV set to MTV and was in the kitchen fixing a snack. A commercial for Barney came on as she was heading back to her couch, and she felt like smashing the screen in.
She was going to change the channel, but a picture flashed across the screen. It had a picture of three men, about her age, standing together. They looked oddly familiar...she couldn't quite figure out who they were, until something else flashed across the screen.
'Green Day.' was shown across the top of the picture in dark green print. Now she knew exactly who they were. Billie Joe was in the middle, though he had his hair dyed blue, Mike was on his right, looking just handsome, and Tre was on Billie's left, just being Tre. She couldn't believe what she was seeing.
"Yea, I think it's amazing. What's happened to our lives between these few months, it's just mind blowing." she heard Mike's voice say during an interview.
"You have no clue what it's like, changing from some small garage rock band to this! It's just...wow." Billie shouted into the microphone.
The interviewer smiled. "So, where will you be staying for the time being, seems how you don't have a bus yet?"
"We got a place...an old friend." he replied slyly. Then a knock came at her door.
She jumped in her spot a little...and shook her head. It wasn't them. She sighed and got to her feet, walked over to the door, and unlocked it. She pulled it open, squinting at the woman standing there.
"Hi, Jade?" the woman asked.
"Yes..." she replied.
"It's Adrienne!" she shouted. Jade noticed the boys walking up her lawn behind Adrienne. "We know it's been awhile, but we can catch up inside can't we?"
She squealed and hugged Jade as Billie Joe waved to her from behind. Mike and Tre were joking around with each other like the hot summer day she had recalled earlier...it really was them. She grinned and opened her door wide.
"Sure...I guess. Come on in." she told them.
