Salt of the Earth, chapter 3
"Ah hi Tre", Steph said looking up at him from underneath him on the floor. He looked down at her.
"Sorry Steph", he said sitting up. This instantly made him straddle her, causing the whole situation to become even more awkward. She blushed and smiled shaking her head.
"You ready to walk me to school?", she asked. He got up and nodded helping her up as well. She smiled taking his hand as she ran them out the door before Jason had a chance to see them. For the first 15 minutes of walking Tre kept silent. He couldn't believe that they were holding hands. After that though he started getting slightly talkative.
"You look good dressed like that", he complimented her. She smiled.
"Thanks you look cute", she told him fixing his collar. He blushed and breathed in keeping it tight in his chest. He still couldn't get over the fact they were holding hands.
"I'm so tired", she let out yawning. He smiled.
"That's so cute", he told himself.
"How come?", he asked, quickly realizing that maybe he didn't want to know. She smiled.
"Went to a gig last night. I can barely walk", she told him stopping in her tracks. He stopped and looked at her.
"You alright?", he asked when he noticed her shove his backpack into hers. She smiled.
"Turn around", she told him giggling. He did so wondering what she was up to. With in a few quick seconds she had quickly made her way up onto his back.
"Okay piggy back me to school", she told him resting her head on his shoulder. Tre kept her up gently and carried her to school not believing that his was happening.
'Its got to be a dream', he told himself, 'It has to be'.
-AT SCHOOL-
"Thanks Tre Bear", she told him giving him a hug before she climbed down off his back, "That was really sweet of you". She gave him back his bag and smiled before she walked of to her class. People walking down the hall looked at him whispering to each other that it was a risky move for him to even be around her let alone carry her to school. He picked up his bag and walked himself to his locker taking out the books he needed.
"Hey buddy", Billie Joe said walking up to Tre. Tre looked at him and smiled before he shut his locker.
"How was the walk to school?", Billie asked him walking them both into English.
"It was nice, how come?", Tre asked blushing. He smiled and sat down with Billie in the back row. Billie Joe smiled.
"So you going to walk her home or can I?", he asked watching her walk into class. Tre shifted in his seat and kept his eyes fixed onto her. Billie noticed and watched. He couldn't believe it. Tre was in love, and for once it was real.
"Dude", he said waving his hand in front of Tre's face.
"WHAT?", Tre asked looking at him like he had just heard bad news.
"Are you walking her home?", he asked again. Tre shook his head.
"This morning was too risky. I'll take her to school again tomorrow", Tre explained. Billie Joe nodded and smiled.
"Alright then", he said planning up a small yet devious plan in his head.
-AT LUNCH-
"Hey Steph", Tre said walking past her. She got a grip of his wrist and pulled him towards her near her locker.
"Billie Joe told me", she let out. He looked at her shaking his head.
"Told you what?", he asked her trying to seem curious.
"About you, and you're feelings and me", she explained. He smiled and bit his lip.
"So you don't like care?", he asked her. She shook her head.
"Its sweet Tre", she told him shoving her books into her locker, "I should have noticed, I'm really sorry I didn't".
"No its fine", he said starting to get nervous. She smiled noticing.
"You doing anything for lunch?", she asked him holding his hand. He blushed.
"Ahh, BJ and Mike we're going to meet me in the music room and well you know", he told her. She smiled and nodded.
"Yeah, I know", she said looking down almost disappointed.
"Did you want to do something?", he asked kind of feeling bad and guilty. She nodded.
"What did you have in mind?", he asked looking down at her. Slowly she took a step forward towards him and looked up at him pausing for a second. He looked back at her wondering why she was so close. In a few quick seconds Tre had her lipstick mark on his cheek.
"I'll see you later Tre", she told him, walking off to the girls bathrooms.
Tre lightly touched where he had been kissed and smiled to himself walking to find Mike and Billie Joe. Little did he know that Jason had seen the whole thing happen...
