Forever Greener, chapter 4
By the time it was lunch, Tre and Steph we’re already in the library trying to find Billie and Mike. They found them at the study desks and walked over.
‘Hey gorgeous’, Steph said, giving Billie a hug, from behind he’s chair. She kept her arms around him and started to read what he had in-front of him. It was lyrics. He pushed the sheet under his folder and started to talk to her.
‘You been alright?’, he asked pulling out another chair for Steph to sit on. Tre and Mike spoke quietly in the background.
‘Yeah, I’ve been fine. Tre’s been looking after me’, Steph said smiling, and moving her chair closer. Steph picked up Billie’s hands and started rubbing he’s fingers lightly. ‘You got a 4th period test in English right?’, she asked, looking over the where Tre and Mike were talking before looking back at Billie.
‘Yeah. It should be over with quick. You do your science exam?’, he asked her.
‘Yeah, it was fun. We got to blow up all this stuff’, she said laughing. Billie noticed something warm starting to drip on he’s fingers.
‘What is that?’, he asked pulling he’s hands away so that he could see what it was. Steph noticed. She wiped he’s hands quickly and tucked her fingers into the sleeves of her jumper. Billie started to get suss.
‘Are you alright?’, he asked ‘I want you to tell me if anything’s happened’. They paused. Steph’s eyes travelled around the room.
‘Did Tre do something?’, Billie asked, wanting an answer from her.
‘No, Tre did nothing’, Steph replied. Her eyes we’re starting to swell up with tears. She couldn’t keep what happened from him for long.
‘Well then tell me what happened’, Billie tired to coax her. He mover he’s chair right in-front of her and tried to start eye contact with her. Steph didn’t look up though. She started bitting her lip and closing her eyes, ever so slowly.
‘Come on. Tell me what happened. You can trust me’, he coaxed her again, trying to get an answer. Steph sat silent. Minutes passed before she spoke again. ‘Alright. But not here’.
Steph stood up and took Billie outside of the library to the girls toilets. Mike and Tre followed them trying not to be noticed. Steph pushed her way thought the door and bought Billie in as well. She sat on the bench where the sinks were and started to roll up her sleeves. Billie was getting anxious. He couldn’t wait any longer to find out what was wrong. He pulled up her sleeves, as quickly as he could. Steph was bleeding. She was cut. That’s what Billie had felt before.
‘Did you do this?’, he asked her as calmly as he could. Steph shook her head as tears started to flow out of her eyes and run down her face.
‘Did Tre do this to you?’, Billie asked, starting to get worried. Steph was bleeding fast. Steph shook her head again. She jumped down from the bench and started to wash the blood away in the sink. Billie kept thinking of who could have done this. He paced around the room, before running back up to her.
‘Did Josh?’, he asked. Steph lowered her head and started crying again. Billie comforted her as well as he could. Blood was everywhere, tears had washed most of it away, but still the horror bothered both of them. Billie started cursing under he’s breath. He walked towards the door that lead out.
‘Billie’, Steph called. He turned and came back to her. Steph put her arms around him, and started to cry into him. He breathing was unsettled and blood was dripping down the back of Billie’s neck.
‘Your going to be alright. I just have to go kill Josh. Wait here’, Billie said, trying to move away from Steph. She kept a grip on him though.
‘You cant though’, she started ‘He said that if I told anyone, there’d be more trouble’. Tears kept coming flowing down. Billie was starting to become protective again.
‘Where was Tre when this happened?’, he asked.
‘Same thing happened to Tre as well. We couldn’t stop it’, Steph muttered out, between sobs. Billie kept he’s arms around her, and started thinking of what Josh had said to he and Mike that morning. The toilet door started to open slowly. Tre and Mike appeared and came in. They walked over to the two.
‘Billie, I’m really sorry’, Tre started. Billie looked over at his friend who was in tears as well. Tre was feeling like he had let one of he’s bestfriends down. He didn’t think Billie would give him any sympathy.
‘Mate its alright, Steph told me’, he said ‘How deep are your cuts?’. Tre showed. They seemed to be the same, just Tre’s weren’t bleeding as much. Billie kissed Steph on the forehead and told her and Tre to stay here. He asked Mike to come with him. In a matter of seconds they we’re gone. Steph and Tre sat down in the corner of the bathroom, underneath the hand dryers waiting for their friends to return.
‘I hope they don’t do anything they end up regretting’, Steph said starting to cry again, because of the pain she was in. Tre tried to comfort her, but it was no use. They were both in a messed state. Tre started wondering what the guys were actually doing.
Billie and Mike started searching the school. Anywhere they could think that Josh might be, they searched. Finally, they gave up and walked into the boys bathroom. Billie washed the blood off of his neck, and sat down on the floor in one of the cubicles. Mike came and sat down next to him.
‘Mate, don’t stress so much’, Mike said trying to calm Billie down. But there was no use, there was still rage in him. ‘Mike I cant. What if something else happens to her?’, Billie said, cursing every so often between the sentences.
‘Bill, I know she means a lot to you. I know how much you love her’, Mike tried to calm him down again.
‘Will then you’d understand, why I want to get Josh back for it. You cant go around hurting people for no reason’, Billie said trying to let his irritation out calmly. The door of the toilets opened and puffs of smoke started to fill the bathroom. They heard the voices of Josh and his group enter………
