Murder has Secrets, chapter 10
And I'm still breathing.
I squint out from behind my eyelids. Kyla is laying limp on the ground. Two more shots fire and Debbie and Daniel go down as well.
I feel someone untying my hands. I turn around to find Tré struggling with the last know. As soon as I'm free I jump on him kissing him fiercely. He stops me and holds me in his arms.
"I thought I was as good as dead." I say.
"So did I." he replies, "we have to go now." He starts pulling me towards the door.
"We have to get Adie!" I struggle out of his grasp an run to my sister and start trying to pick the lock.
"MOVE!" shouts Tré and points his gun at the lock, blasting it apart.
I quickly remove Adie from the chains and Tré takes her over his shoulder and leads me out of the building where I was confined and into a parking lot where Mike is waiting in his BMW.
"It's good to see everyone's alive." Mike says as we jump into the backseat of his car.
"Come-on Mike, hurry! The cops are going to be here soon." Tré says urgently. He pulls out of the parking lot and on to the street. Sure enough, not two blocks away, I hear sirens.
***
We finally stop half an hour later. I look out the window to find San Francisco Airport. I look quizzically at Tré.
"Here's your passport and your plane ticket. Your suitcases are in the trunk. I'll see you in Australia."
"What about Adie?" I ask, glancing at her bloody body."
"She'll be fine, I promise. Now go!"
I lean over and kiss him. "I love you."
"I know." He replies.
I grab my luggage and hurry off into the airport, awaiting the flight that will take me to my new life. I glance down at my passport. I was now twenty-seven year old Danika Bennett.
I glance back out the tinted airport windows to find Mike's BMW gone, my fiancé with it.
"I'll miss you Tré, see you in Australia, and thanks for saving my life (again)." I whispered my goodbyes, "You'll know where to find me when you get there. After all, you always were a better hitman than me. Especially when it came to finding and getting close to your target."
