Top Story: Local Band Gets Rock Star Label to Sign
The favorite local band The Stiletto Killers has received a record contract from the West Coast's Adeline Records after the owner of the label witnessed the band perform at Fritz's Pub for the Punk last week.
The label originates from punk legend and frontman for Green Day Billie Joe Armstrong and his wife of eleven years, Adrienne Armstrong. A spokesperson for the duo said that Adeline Records is very elated to have such a 'talented East Coast band with lots of spunk' under their label. Spokespersons for Green Day have made similar statements, including that the New Jersey kids 'have their utter and total respect.'
Speculations predict that The Stiletto Killers ( lead singer and guitarist Christoria Armstrong, 18; bassist Frank Ryan, 19; rhythm guitarist Thom Vaschal, 18; drummer Selena Hawthorne, 17) will be transferred to a major label by the end of the year, possible Reprise Records where stars such as Green Day and My Chemical Romance are signed, the latter coming from New Jersey as well.
"We're really psyched as a whole for the contract," said Christoria after a press meeting yesterday. "We're stepping up to the bat to take on the world."
Quite an ambition from a small-town band. But then again, Fritz's Pub has had them played at sold-out venues ever since they hit the underground scene two years ago. They have the backing of the facility, not to mention the respect from the owner. "Christoria has lit up the stage with her prescence," says Fritz, owner of the pub. "We want her to know that she, Selena, Thom and Frank have support from their friends at home."
"Christoria and Co.", as they have been known as for the last two and a half years, will surely step up to the plate. Expect an EP out later this year, not to mention a prospective tour with another band as well.
-----
Christoria was standing at the entrance to the airport, her carryon bag clutched nervously in one hand, and a purse in the other. Her Fairlane was behind her, still running as her mom have driven her here. All of her stuff, everything she ever owned, was in that trunk. Her guitar, her clothes, her CDs, the works. She was moving out to the West Coast to be closer to the record label. "It's for the best," Adrienne had mused after the band gave a stellar performance for Billie Joe and his band. "You'll have an apartment and I'm sure you can get your car out here somehow."
"Christy!"
Thom, Selena and Frank were waiting for her. She had stopped purposely to see if she had her cell phone charger and her best friend, Babs the Uglydoll. Frank had given it to her as a Christmas present last year. Wow, she thought. It's almost been a whole year. I never would have thought we would have been here now.
She had a pink teeshirt on with a pair of faded jeans, and a black hoodie thrown on overtop. She was wearing her creepers and she had black and white striped socks on as well. The plus of this all is that I get some Adeline Records clothes, she mused, grinning slowly. Not that I didn't have any at all to begin with.
One hand reached up unconciously to ruffle her hair, which was running free and wild today. After turning to her mom, who had gotten out of the car to check her luggage into the baggage claim, she hugged her mother who was in tears. "Be careful," was all her mom could manage between sobs. Christy patted her on the back, then pulled away and picked her bags back up. "I will be!" was all she said before walking through the door with her three best friends in the world.
-----
"Wake up."
Selena and Thom were standing over her, grinning. Christy sleepily opened one eye, then grumbled, turning in her seat. She had just fallen asleep, or so it seemed. "Go away..." was all she said before unbuckling herself and getting up. Grabbing her bags and Babs (who had been lodged in the seat for unknown reasons) she headed off the plane.
After getting their luggage, they walked outside the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in search for a car. "Now that I think about it, I don't remember Adrienne mentioning a car that would come pick us up..." was all Thom said before trailing off. Just then, a sleek white limo rolled up and one of the many tinted windows rolled down. "Need a lift?" a familiar voice said.
"Billie Joe!" Christy exclaimed, causing many heads to turn.
"Shut up!" Billie Joe said, his eyes darting around nerviously.
"Billie Joe!" Christy exclaimed softly.
"Get in the car!" Billie Joe said, waving them in as the door opened.
They all piled in, the luggage in the middle and all four plus Billie Joe in the back. The window rolled back up, and they rolled off.
"So..." Billie Joe turned to them, an eager look in his green eyes. "What do you think of the West Coast?"
"Mmm..jet lag."
"Big?"
"Dunno."
"...zzzz"
Selena slapped Christy, who had dozed off.
"Huh? Ow! I mean...it's good, it's good..."
"Where are we headed?" Frank asked innocently.
"Ah, yes. You're headed to your apartments, then we're meeting Adie at Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe. For a little conference."
"You mean the cafe owned by Mike--I mean, Mr. Dirnt?"
Billie Joe chuckled at the manners that Frank possessed. "You go to catholic school?" he said, his eyebrows raised in amusement. Frank merely nodded.
"Well then, you and another Frank I know have something in common. Frank Iero to be exact." Frank looked like he was gonna die from disbelief. "F-Frank from My Chemical Romance?" he gasped, his eyes wide in suprise. Billie Joe merely nodded, an "mmhmm" noise escaping his slightly parted lips.
-----
They arrived at the restaurant and Frank jumped out of the car, followed by Thom and Selena holding hands, and then Christy slumped out of the car groggily, followed finally by Billie Joe who shut the door behind him.
"Why didn't Adrienne come with you to meet us?" Christy questioned, ignoring the looks from Selena that obviously said "shut the fuck up, it isn't your buisiness!"
Billie Joe blushed all the way to the tips of his static black hair. "She had to pick up Joey and Jakob from school and day care."
Christy gasped. "Joey AND Jakob?! I love kids!" A huge grin was now on her face as she strode to the front door. Billie Joe stared after her, then laughed as Thom whispered to Selena "Looks like she's awake..."
The whispering was cut off with a huge "Awwwww!" as they opened the door, seeing Christy hugging the youngest, Jakob. He was giggling away as she grinned, and Adrienne looked on, Joey in the chair next to her. "Your kids are adorable!" she exclaimed, putting Jakob down, who scurried back to his mom. Adrienne smiled and mouthed a "thank you" before kissing Billie Joe in a greeting, then shaking hands with Selena, Thom and Frank. They all took a seat promptly afterwards. Christy next to Adrienne, Billie Joe next to Adrienne. The other three were on Christy's other side.
"Now then..."
