Wild-Eyed Angst and The Queen of Spades, chapter 5

"--Cause London is drowning---"
"--and I live by the river!"

The small radio blared "London Calling" as Christy and Selena were dancing in their apartment. Selena was shimmying around, a paintbrush in one hand while Christy was playing air guitar with a paint roller. The walls were splotched with white and dark blue where the two girls were painting. Most of the apartment was done, and they planned to have their furniture and everything unpacked before they went into the studio next week for official EP recording.

Everything was strewn around the place: Babs was taking refuge in a small box marked "CDs" near the door and guitar cases, drumsticks and a disassembled drum set was in the corner, a couple of dark blue paint splotched decorating the stool from where Selena and Christy had "gotten carried away" in a paint war.

A knock sounded on the door, and Christy and Selena stopped, Selena throwing her paintbrush down on the newspaper spread around while Christy did the same. They ran for the door, each wrestling the other to get to the door first. Selena won, pushing Christy into the plastic-covered sofa and reaching the doorknob and turning it, out of breath.

Thom and Frank were in the doorway, bearing bags of food.

"Saviors!" Christy got up from where she had been pushed and quickly grabbed the bags of food and set them down on the granite counter. Thom and Frank looked around the place in wonder.

"You guys have gotten a lot done!"

Selena and Christy winked at each other and high-fived.

Everyone was still initially shocked from the apartment that Billie Joe and Adrienne had presented them with. It was a two-story accommodation complete with appliances, a counter, and partially furnished. Christy and Selena were planning on going to Ikea later to get some more furniture that was more "rocker-friendly."

"You guys have worked so hard, how's about you let us manly men finish?" Thom and Frank flexed their muscles very arrogantly while Selena hugged Thom and planted a kiss on his cheek. Christy merely smirked and headed towards a bedroom with a piece of paper on it reading "CHRISTY CALLED THIS ROOM, BITCHES!"

"I'm cleaning myself up before you guys change your mind," she shouted, closing her door.

-----

About an hour later, Christy and Selena were browsing through downtown Oakland, talking and laughing. Selena had a black dress on, with a pair of rolled-up jeans underneath and low-top Converse to complete the outfit. Christy had a pair of sunglasses acting as a headband in her hair along with a slender pair of jeans on and a white polo with a black widow. Black Vans poked out from under her flared jean hems. A tight black zip hoodie was rolled up almost to her elbows.

"Jeez. I need a coffee," Christy exclaimed, pulling her sunglasses over her eyes. Selena nodded in agreement. They walked down past all the shops and caught a cab to the Cafe where they had been yesterday.

Fifteen minutes later, they were there. Paying the cabbie who quickly departed, they entered and immediately sat down in the Children's Area. After a waiter served them ("I'll have the God Save the Southern Fried Chicken, please," ) and they received their food and drinks, they got down to talking about the album.

"What songs do you think we should put on this EP?" Christy was lazily stirring her coffee, her chicken completely eaten. Selena thought about this for a minute, then looked around in a moment of inspiration. Her eyes widened.

"Mike," she said.

"What the fuck?! We don't have a song named 'Mike'---oh!"

Selena was referring to the Mike at the window seat across the cafe. The Mike with newly dyed black-brown hair. The Mike who owned this cafe.

The Mike Dirnt.

He had a solitary cup of coffee, and was reading the newspaper. As if someone had called his name, he looked up and spied the two youths goggling at him. Realizing who they were, he laughed and placed his paper down. Grabbing his cup, he walked over to them, slightly grinning.

"Did you find the food alright?" he asked in a pompous manner.

Christy replied blankly. "No. It was horrible, which is why I ate it all in record time." Patting the seat next to her, she scooted over as Mike sat down with them.

"We were thinking about what songs to put on our EP," Selena said, taking a sip of her coffee. Mike thought about this for a minute, then looked around in a moment of inspiration. His eyes widened. Slightly, however.

"Tre," he said simply.

"Huh? We don't have a song called---oh!"

Mike was referring to the Tre who had just walked into the cafe. The Tre whose facial expression of glittering eyes and an evil grin screamed "MISCHIEF! I DID SOMETHING I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO DO!" The Tre who immediately, upon sighting Mike, Selena and Christy, came and sat next to Selena, who was trying not to have a heart attack now.

The Tre Cool.

"What's shakin', bacon? Sorry, Mike," he added, for the vegan bassist had just taken on a look that said he had been insulted greatly.

"Like Selena said before you came along, we're thinking of songs that we could put on our EP," Christy explained. Tre thought about this for a minute, then looked around in a moment of inspiration.

"Billie Joe," he said.

"You're kidding, right?" Selena and Christy started looking around.

"Joking! That whole skit has been done twice already in this chapter. It's old now."

Selena and Christy breathed sighs of relief.

"Well, I thought that 'Thelma and Louise' was a good pick. Interesting drumming choices, along with the riffs for guitar. And '. 45 Romance' was a good song as well. The bass and the guitar are pretty damn good. And of course lyrical and vocal choices were good. You should stick with those and maybe a new song you can write."

Selena and Christy nodded happily at Tre's opinion.

"Thanks."
