*At School The Next Day*

For most of the day, Billie Joe and Bianca had avoided each other like the plague, as to not have the previous night's conversation brought up. Skyler was worried about Billie. He seemed really stressed out, but he wouldn't say anything was wrong, and he was hanging with her exessivley that day. This worried her more. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy his comapany, she definetly did. It was just so out of place.

She finally confronted him before last lesson.

"Billie, what's up with you? You're acting all happy, but something's off. And it seems you've been avoiding Bianca like it's she's got a rifle, you've got antlers, and it's deer season." She wasn't sure if she was being too up front since they had just become friends, but so far no one else had made the effort to find out what was going on. Someone had to.

"It's nothing, really." Billie lied.

So far they had been walking side by side, but now Skyler moved so that she was right in front of Billie Joe, turning to face him, which caused him to stumble back a step or two.

"Billie, I know we haven't been friends very long, and I may be overstepping boundaries here, but I wanna know what's up! You're really worrying my here." she said rather sternly. Upon seeing his face fall a bit, she added softly "Please?"

Billie Joe sighed and leaned against a locker, sliding down to a sitting position. Skyler sat next to him.

"Me and Bianca had a fight on the phone last night." He admitted sadly.

"Well, if you don't mind me asking, what about?" she asked softly.

"Actually, you." He said looking away from her stormy blue eyes.

"Oh my god Billie! I'm so sorry! I didn't ever mean to-"

"No, it's not your fault at all." he said redirecting his gaze fromt he ground to her eyes again.

"Well, what happened?"

"I called her to patch things over from before and to see if she wanted to go out later that night. Well, first thing out of her mouth was 'where were you? ' Didn't sound like a big deal at the moment, so I told her I had gone to band practice after hanging out with you for a couple hours. That's when she went all crazy third degree on my. Everything I said got met with another question. She said that it didn't take two hours to make a friend and on and on like that. It was horrible, like she didn't trust me at all. So I told her I can hang out with whoever I want whenever I want, and I didn't need that, and I hung up."

"Sheesh." Skyler said quietly after a moment. The both sat there a few minutes before Skyler finally spoke.

"So, so you still wanna be with her?"

"Well, yeah. I do. She may be a little paranoid lately, but I still wanna be with her." Billie said.

"Well, then you should talk to her. I'm sure you guys will work it all out. No doubt about it."

"You really think so?" Billie asked her hopefully.

"Of course." She replied truthfully, with a hint of undetectable sadness in her voice.

"Thanks Skyler." Billie said hugging her. She hugged him back.

"No big thing." she said pulling away. Until the dismissal bell rang, the two talked about random things to pass the time in order to avoid going to class.

When the bell finally did ring, they saw Bianca walking out of her history lesson. Skyler nudged Billie Joe in the arm and motioned for him to go talk to her. The two friends went their separate ways.

Skyler walked out the doors and started to her car, only to be stopped by Mike.

"Skyler! Wait up!" Mike called, walking over to her. "Hey, you wanna come to practice again today? Karen and Trista are gonna be there too, so you guys could hang out."

"Uh, yeah. Sounds good. It's at five, right?" she asked.

"Yeah, but you can come before then if you want."

"Is it still at Tre's"

"Sure is."

"Ok, I'll be there at about four then?"

"Sure, sounds fine."

"Ok, i'll see you guys!"

"Yeah, bye!"

Skyler got into her car, started it, and headed home for a bit.

*With Billie and Bianca*

"Bianca!" The girl turned at the sound of her name being called, to see Billie Joe rushing toward her.

"Hi Billie Joe." she replied.

"I wanna work this out." he said.

"Yeah, me too. Look Billie, I'm sorry. I should have trusted you. I was just feeling a bit insecure and I took it out on you. I shouldn't have."

"I didn't mean to yell like I did, Bee. But what you said just got to me, you know?"

"Yeah. I do. And again. I am so sorry for not trusting you. I know you and Skyler are just friends. I don't know what I was thinking."

" 'Sokay. So, you wanna come to band practice?"

"You know I would, but I've gotta go out with my parents for my mom's birthday. We're heading to my aunt's house in San Fransisco for the evening."

"Ok, then I guess I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yeah."

They kissed goodbye and parted.

*Band Practice*

Skyler got into her car at about 3:50 and headed off to Tre's house to meet the guys. When she got there, she found Billie Joe and Trista feverishly arguing over who was sluttier: Britney Spears or Jessica Simson.

"Oh, come on! Britney's got a whole HISTORY of sluttiness!" Billie argued.

"Well, sure, but Jessica's a newbie, so she's going full speed ahead!" Trista shot back.

"Hey guys." Skyler said, greeting the group, Tre, Mike, Billie, and Trista, as a whole.

"Oh, hey Skyler... I'm telling you it's Britney." Billie said becoming immersed in debate once more.

After a few minutes of eavesdropping on this heated discussion, Mike walked over to the pair.

"You're both wrong." He said," Tre's a bigger slut than both of them!"

At the sound of his name, Tre looked up from his drum set where he'd been tapping out a gently rhythm on a cymbal.

"What's that?" he asked oblivious.

"Oh, nothing Tre. Mike just thinks you're a bigget slut than both Britney Spears and Jessica Simson. Nothing new." Billie responded matter of factly, causing Skyler to emit a giggle, muffled by her palm.

"Wrong Mike. I'm not a slut. I'm a tease. There's a difference." Tre corrected.

"Sorry, man. I had no idea. Are we still good?" Mike asked with mock seriousness.

"Yeah, no problem." Tre replied.

The two teens met in the middle of the garage to exchange an intricate secret handshake, which neither Skyler nor Trista could comprehend.

"What about me?" Billie whined, going over to his band mates. Skyler took his place on the couch next to Trista, smiling at the feel of it still being warm from Billie sitting there.

"Hey, Trista, right?" Skyler said, trying to break the ice.

"Yeah. So, Skyler, you like anybody this year?" Trista was a bit nosy, yes, but still an awesome friend none the less.

"Er, no, nobody." Skyler lied.

"Seriously?"

"Uh, yeah. All the good ones are taken."

"Well, just cuz they're taken, doesn't mean you don't like 'em." Trista said deviously.

"Yeah, well, i'll tell you later." Skyler said, glancing at the group of boys.

"Ah, yes. They know no boundaries when it comes to teasing, do they?"

Skyler laughed, causing Billie Joe to turn his head to them.

"What? We're not THAT ugly, are we?" he asked sarcastically, making a face.

Both girls just shook their heads in a 'tisk tisk' fashion.

As 5:00 rolled around, Karen arrived, carrying a backpack and announcing, "Who can use a fucking graphing calculator?"

She took one look at the band and muttered "Never mind," going to sit beside Skyler. "How 'bout you two?"

"Oh! I can!" Trista excaimed as the guys finished setting up and began to play I Wanna Be Alone. Karen showed her friend the device.

"THAT'S a graphing calculator?" Trista said, "never mind."

"Thanks, FRIEND. You're a big help."

"That's what I'm here for." the girl replied happily.

"Of course. Do you know how to work this thing?" she asked Skyler.

"No, I find that calculators stifle my creative flow. Plus they make my head hurt. My mind and my brain, too." she replied.

"Ah, someone who shares my pain!" Karen stated dramatically.

The girls laughed a little at Mike's girlfriend's dramatics as she got herself settled on the couch.

"Hey Karen! Guess what!" Trista said exitedly.

"What, Trista?"

"I think Skyler likes someone!" The girl announced rather loudly as the boy's song finished. "Oops."

"What? Skyler luuuuuuvs somebody?" Tre questioned nosily. He and Trista made a good couple.

"That is none of your buisiness, Mr. Cool." Karen replied smoothly.

"Oh fine, just BE that way!" Tre replied.

"I suppose we will." Trista said. Then to Skyler," sorry bout that."

"No big thing." then to the boys, who were staring at them, "what are you looking at US for? What? You think I like one of you or something?"

A stream of 'no' and 'of course not' came from the general direction of the band.

"Um, boys?" Trista said." Would you excuse us for a minute? I think I left my sunglasses here and I want these two to help me look for them, kay?"

The boys nodded, not knowing what was going on, but all trusting they'd find out later.

As the girls headed inside, practice continued as if they'd never left. Once inside and settled on Tre's sofa, Karen spoke.

"So, who is it?"

Road To Acceptance began in the background.

"Who's what?" Skyler asked.

"Who is it that you like!" Trista pressed.

Skyler hadn't known these two girls more than an hour mabye, but she felt she could trust them. She took a deep breath before answering, and the girls waited patiently. After a moment Skyler mumbled, "Billie". She wasn't heard.

"Who?" Karen asked.

"Billie Joe" she said softly, yet audibly.
