The Innocent Can Never Last., chapter 2

Chapter 4.

Helena awoke the next morning, she had fallen asleep in her chair. She looked at her watch, it was almost twelve o'clock.
She knew that what happened last night, had to have been a dream, a good dream, but a dream none the less. She got up and walked towards Mathew's bedroom.
"Mathew honey, are you awake?"
She knocked on the door, Mathew opened the door, "What mom?"
"Oh my God! What happened to your face?"
Mathew laughed, "It's about time you asked! Gavin and I got into a fight last night."
"What? I didn't know Gavin came over yesterday."
"What? How drunk were you last night?"
Helena crossed her arms, "Excuse me?"
"What? You don't remember? Oh my God, how could you forget?"
"Forget what Mathew?"
"I went to a concert!"
Helena looked completely confused, "What? Was I talking in my sleep last night?"
Mathew laughed loudly, "Oh my freakin' God, you like him, don't you?"
"Like who?"
"You do like him, you never invite people in for beers..."
Helena's heart jumped, it wasn't a dream, it actually happened. She could not believe it, she really had given her phone number to Billie.
She gasped, then ran into the living room. She raced to the phone; she had three messages on her answering machine. She punched play:

"Hey Mathew, it's Gavin. My mom picked me up last night, she's really pissed. Look, I'm really sorry about what happened last night, please call me back."

"Mathew, it's Gavin again. Why aren't you calling me back?"

"Um... Helena, -I think that's your name. Anyway, It's Billie, I woke up this morning with your number. And I was wondering, 'cause I was really drunk last night, did we fuck or anything? And if so, were you hot? Just kidding, call me back if you remember who I am."

Helena suddenly felt like she was floating, until she heard a shrike of laughter from behind her.
"Oh mom! That's classic!"
Helena smiled, "Oh Mathew, I seriously thought that I was dreaming. It's just all a little odd for me..."
"Hey, you're not the one who got beaten up by your best friend, then got a ride home by your favorite singer, then your mom thinks he's hot..."
"Mathew! I don't think he's 'hot', it's seems so odd though..."
"Why?"
"Um, think about it... Oh shit! I need to call him back!"
Helena grabbed the phone, and punched redial, her heart was racing and her hands were shacking. She felt like hanging up before he could answer, then:
"Hello?"
"I remember who you are!!!"
"Ok... um, who is this?"
"...Helena."
He sounded a bit confused, "Ok, are you that drunk women who was at the concert last night?"
"No! I'm the women who's son you brought home."
"Oh... we didn't..."
"-No. But you wanted me to call you back."
"Yeah. Hey listen, do you and your son want to come to a show tonight?"
"Of course! Oh sorry, um, yeah, sounds fun."

Chapter 5.

As Helena and Mathew sat on the couch, the doorbell rang. Helena was dreaming of who might be at the other side of the door, while Mathew answered it. Much to Helena's disappointment, it was Gavin.
Gavin stepped into the living room. He looked around at the same old red wallpaper and white carpet.
He sat down in the blue armchair, and looked at Mathew longingly.
Mathew sighed, "Gavin why did you do that?"
"I'm sorry Matt, I don't know what came over me, honestly."
The two of them argued for about ten minutes, while Helena watched in confusion. When a silence finally fell upon them, Helena looked at Gavin,
"Hello Gavin."
"Oh, hey Miss Lee."
Mathew frowned, "Actually mom, the fight was about you."
"What?"
Gavin shook his head at Mathew, but Mathew continued, "Gavin said that you drank so much now days because you were such a young mom."
Helena sighed, "Gavin? Why do you say that?"
Gavin put his hands together nervously, "I'm sorry Miss Lee, I don't know why I said that... It's just, that some times I feel like my family is so fucked up that I have to make a mess out of everyone else's family."
Helena faked a smile, "It's okay Gavin, since when have I ever been a normal family?"
"Uh..."
Gavin was cut off by the loud sound of the ringing phone.
Helena picked it up, "Hello?"
"Are you fucking coming or not?" Demanded a familiar voice.
Helena smiled, "Yeah, we're coming. Oh shit! It's already eight o'clock!"
"That's why I was asking, I wanted you and your son backstage before the show..."
"Really? We'll be there!"

Helena and Mathew got into the blue Ford truck, and drove towards the show. Helena felt like an idiot for being so vulnerable to the whole thing. She knew that the whole thing must be some kind of charity act. But her heart did not want to believe that. They pulled into the already full parking lot.
The two of them walked passed the mass amounts of cars. She walked passed a truck, with three teenage boys seated on the tailgate.
One of the boys let out a wolf-whistle, "Woo baby, what a hottie!"
She turned around and smiled at him, the raised her middle finger.
The boy laughed, "You can fuck me any day!"
She pushed Mathew's back, they walked faster towards the concert stage. There were already about a hundred people waiting outside. Helena and Mathew got in line, when a man in a hoodie that hid his face approached them.
"Helena," He called out in a fake sounding voice.
She waved her hand, "Over here!"
The strange man grabbed her hand and took them away. Once in a secluded part of the parking lot, the man pulled down his hood, reveling spiked black hair and sparkling hazel eyes.
"It's nice to see you again."
Helena blushed, "Nice to see you too."
"I'm sorry, but I can't get you backstage..."
All of a sudden, Gavin's voice rang out from far away, "Mathew! Mathew over here!"
Mathew walked away, he felt like he wasn't there in the first place.
Helena looked at Billie, "It's okay..."
He looked her in the eyes, he came closer, then softly kissed her on the lips. She felt her heart jump, then beat suddenly faster. He pulled away, and smiled at her. She smiled back, and the two of them stood there for what seemed like an hour.

Chapter 6.

Helena walked towards her truck, holding her jacket tight around herself. Mathew had left the concert with Gavin and his mother. Mathew was going to spend the night at Gavin's house, so Helena had planed to go out to get a drink. Helena was just about to open her truck door, when a voice from behind her frightened her.
"Oh my God! Billie, you scared the shit outta me!"
"Sorry, I just wanted to talk..."
"It's okay, what did you want to talk about?"
"General shit..."
Helena laughed, "Okay..."
He walked closer to her, "Any plans tonight?"
"Not really, why?"
"I want to get away for a while, you know, pretend I'm not famous and go get drunk."
"That's what I was just about to do."
"Where's your son, what's his name..."
"Mathew? He's spending the night at his friend's house."
"Oh..."
Helena looked at her feet, "Want to go to my house for a beer?"
"Hell yeah!"
The two of them got into his BMW, and drove toward her house.
A Nirvana song was blasting from the radio, Billie turned it off, "So you're a young mother huh?"
"Um, yeah."
"Were you ever married?"
"No. I had Matt when I was sixteen."
"Oh. Who's the lucky guy?"
Helena felt like he was over-stepping his boundaries, but she did not really care, "I was young, and stupid... but his name was Patrick..."
"I'm sorry..."
Helena smiled, "It's okay."
They pulled into her driveway, then stepped inside her house. Helena threw her jacket onto a near by chair, then took a seat on the couch. He sat down next to her. He smiled at her, then kissed her again. She kissed him back, he placed his hand behind her head, then they fell back onto the couch.

Chapter 7.

Helena awoke on the couch, Billie was no where in sight. She raised herself up, she suddenly felt rather bad about herself, -what the fuck did I just do?-
Then she noticed a note setting on her coffee table:

"-Helena, I'm sorry I had to go, call me.
Love Billie."

Helena sighed, then fell back on the couch. She could not believe herself. Then she had just thought, her truck was still in the parking lot.
"God damnit," She breathed.
She buried her face in her hands, when suddenly the door opened. Mathew walked into the living room. "Hey mom!"
"Hey Matt..."
"Mom, what's wrong? You look like shit!"
"I'm fine, just pissed at myself..."
Mathew sat down next to her, "Mom? What happened?"
"Nothing Matt, forget it."
"Ok, I'm gonna go to my room, if you need anything, I'm here."
As soon as Mathew was out of sight, Helena picked up the phone, she dialed Billie's number.

"Hello?"
"Hey, it's Helena."
"Oh shit, I am so sorry, I had to go last night."
"It's okay."
"I'm sorry, I have to go, I guess I'll talk to you later..."
"Yeah, bye."

She hung up the phone, but she could have sworn she heard a woman's voice in the background.
She got up, she had decided to go out for some launch, "Matt, I'm going out!"
"Okay mom, bye!"
She walked down the sidewalk to a near by cafe. She walked through the door of the small dinner, and took a seat in a booth near a window. She clapped her hands over her face, she was trying not to listen, but the people setting behind her were very loud.
"Where were you last night?" Said a woman's voice.
"I told you, the concert lasted longer than I thought it would." Said a familiar man's voice.
"Look, I know we've been having problems lately, but, are you cheating on me?"
"Look, Adie, I love you, but sometimes..."
At this point, Helena jumped out of her seat, only to find Billie seated in the booth behind her. He was setting across from a woman... his wife.
"BILLIE!"
"Helena?"
Helena pointed to Adie, "Who the fuck are you?"
"I am his fucking wife, who the fuck are you?"
Billie cut Helena off, "Helena, please, it's not what you think..."
"The hell it is Billie!"
Adie looked confused, and angry at the same time. Billie stood up, and put his hands on Helena's shoulders, "Helena. There's something I need to tell you... I love you..."
