Chapter 14.
Helena sat on her couch, starring blankly at the TV, in aw. She could not believe what she was hearing, Melinda seemed like such a nice girl, why would she even be at that party, let alone hit her own brother with a baseball bat. Helena brushed her long, black hair out of her face.
She dug through her purse, and got a cigarette out. She lit it and then fell back on the couch. She was so confused, and what would Sarah think of this? She could not bare to think. Also, what would Mathew think? He had already gone through a lot, and now this. Helena was so confused, she had no idea what was going on, but she knew she had to do something, she dialed Sarah's number.
A tired Sarah answered the phone, "Hello?"
"Um... hi... it's Helena..."
"Hi, do you need anything?"
"Are you watching the news?"
"Um...No..."
"Do you know where Melinda is?"
"Yeah, she's at a friend's house, why?"
Helena did not know how to say this, "Sarah, I don't know how to tell you this... Melinda was arrested..."
Sarah hung up the phone.
Chapter 15.
Helena awoke that morning, not that she had slept much, she was still so worried about the whole Melinda thing.
She got out of bed and stumbled towards her closet. She threw on some clothes and a pair of sneakers.
She walked into her living room, expecting to see what she saw every day, -nothing.
But instead, Billie was seated on her couch, drinking a beer and flipping through Helena's photo album.
"What the fuck are you doing here?"
He turned his head and smiled, "What does it look like I'm doing?"
"Oh shit Billie, it's way too early for you to scare me like that!"
He laughed, "Actually it's noon."
She laughed and sat down next to him, "Oh, just make yourself at home why don't 'ya!"
He laughed, she smiled then took a sip of his beer.
He turned the page of the photo album, "You're so purty'," he joked.
She laughed, "Glad you didn't find my porn stash!"
"Nah, I got enough of that at my house!"
She shook her head, "I was just kidding!"
He put his arm around her shoulder, "Damn, I was looking forward to it!"
She punched him in the arm, "You're such a... teenager!"
"Oh, and like you can talk!"
"Shut the fuck up," she laughed.
He looked at her strangely, she smiled, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
He kissed her, she felt chills down her neck. Though she was hoping Mathew would not walk in. He kissed her neck, and put his hand on her leg.
"Woo-hoo!"
Mathew was standing in the doorway laughing.
Helena blushed, "Matt!"
Billie smiled, then laughed.
Mathew shook his head, "I didn't need to see that, I was just going to tell you, mom, that I was going out."
"Oh, where are you going?"
"Um... out."
Helena laughed, "Okay, whatever!"
"Yeah, figured you'd say that, after all, you're busy."
Mathew winked, then walked out the door.
Helena laughed, "Sorry 'bout that!"
Billie smiled, "It's okay, Matt's funny."
"Yeah, he's a good kid, I'm just worried about his friend," That made her think of Melinda, "Oh shit! I've got to tell you something!"
"What?"
"Matt's friend, Gavin, he was put in the hospital, someone hit him on the head with a baseball bat. Well, come to find out, it was his sister, she's in jail now."
He laughed, "You're kidding, right?
"No. I swear I'm not. I saw it on the news last night, right after I got off the phone with you."
"Does her mother know?"
"I'm not sure, I tried to tell her last night, but she hung up on me."
"What a bitch. Anyway, do you know what happened?"
"No fucking clue..."
Billie laughed, "I don't know what to tell you... want to-"
She cut him off, she grabbed him and kissed him, and they fell back on the couch.
Chapter 16.
About two o'clock, Mathew came storming through the door, "Mom!"
Helena was setting on the couch, "What?"
"I just found out something terrible, you're never going to believe this!"
"Let me guess, you just found out that Melinda was the one who hurt Gavin?"
"What the fuck? Hell no!"
Helena felt stupid, "Oh... Never mind."
"Mom, that was kind of creepy. Anyway, no, I just found out that Gavin's mom heard your conversation last night!"
"What the fuck?"
"You heard me. I went to her house to check on her and Melinda, and she told me everything... I mean EVERYTHING!"
Helena closed her eyes and sighed, "What did she say?"
"She says that 'you're a cheap whore, and that you need to be more concerned with her son's health'."
"Oh my God. I am, I tried to tell her about Melinda last night."
Mathew sat down on the couch, "What about Melinda?"
"She... She was arrested last night."
"What the- That explains why Sarah said that she was at a friend's house."
"Why the hell would she hurt her little brother?"
Billie came walked out of the kitchen, Mathew did not know he was even there still.
Billie threw the news paper in front of them on the coffee table, "Read it!"
Helena and Mathew bent down and read the headline:
Four days ago, a young boy by the name of Gavin H. Morgan, was seriously injured. He is now in the hospital receiving treatment for his injuries. New sources tell us, that his OWN sister, struck him to the back of the head with a baseball bat. It took place at a high school party, where soon after there was a drug-bust. Witnesses say, Melinda Morgan, was mad at her brother, for insulting her mother. Calling her quote 'An uptight bitch, that needed to die'. Melinda Morgan was heavily intoxicated at this point in time:
Helena's heart sank, this was all too shocking. Mathew looked like someone had just stabbed him, and Billie felt out of place to the whole thing.
