The Innocent Can Never Last., chapter 6

Chapter 17.

Three days passed quickly, Helena had done nothing much but be confused. Gavin was still in the hospital, and at this time, Helena and Mathew were visiting him.
Mathew leaned against the hospital bed, "C'mon buddy, you ever going to wake up?"
Helena was setting in a chair by the window, thumbing through a magazine. Her eyes shifted towards Gavin, who looked worse than he did six days ago.
Helena looked at her watch, then sighed, "Matt, maybe we should get going."
Mathew stood up, "Yeah, I guess so..."
They walked towards the doorway, and just as Helena pulled the door to:
"Matt!"
Mathew spun around, "Gavin!"
Gavin was setting upright in his bed, smiling ear to ear.
Mathew ran to the bed, and sat down, "Are you okay? I thought you were dead!"
Gavin laughed, "I'm not dead, actually, I feel fine. My head is a little sore, but fine."
Helena patted Gavin's head, "It's wonderful to see you up."
"Yeah, it's wonderful to be up. So... what the hell happened anyway?"
Mathew dived into the story, "You'll never believe this shit!"
After Mathew finished telling him everything about Melinda, he proceeded to tell him about Helena and Billie.
"So... My mom is dating Billie Joe Armstrong!"
Gavin laughed, "Yeah sure, whatever you say. I'd think you were the one with the memory problem."
Helena giggled, "No, he's right, really long story though..."
Gavin's eyes widened, "So that means, Matt, you're like famous!"
Mathew laughed, "No, I didn't say she got married to him, she just like fu-"
Helena cut him off, "Don't even finish the sentence!"
Mathew and Gavin both laughed at Helena, who was now turning red.
Helena scowled, "Boys! Stop laughing at me!"
Gavin smiled, "I'll never be able to listen to his CDs again!"
Mathew laughed, "Same here, buddy, same here!"
But what Helena was most shocked about, was the fact that Gavin did not seem to care about his sister. He seemed like, he almost expected something like this, or, he just wasn't too shocked.

Chapter 18.

Gavin was released from the hospital later that day, Mathew was already at his house, and the two boys were playing video games.
Helena was in her kitchen, getting a beer out of her fridge. She was still a little bit embarrassed about what Mathew said that day in the hospital. But at the same time, she was happy with herself. She took a large sip of beer, then looked at the bottle. She had honestly been drinking too much lately. She felt like she had to be drunk all the time, to escape her bad life. But now, her son was happy, his best friend was alive and well, and she was dating a rock star. She laughed at her thought, then slung the beer bottle into the trash can. She got a soda out of the fridge, just as her phone rang.
"Hello?"
It was Billie, "Hey Helena, I was just thinking, I'm leaving tomorrow, and I just thought we could go out one more time."
She felt sad suddenly, "Yeah, sounds fun."
"Are you crying?"
"No! I pocked myself in the eye."
He laughed, "I'm on my way to your house right now..."
"Cool, I'll see you then."
"Yeah, bye."
She hung up the phone, then tried to pull herself together.
About five minutes later, Billie came through her doorway. She was setting on the couch, she smiled and patted the couch cushion.
He did not look too happy, but he sat down next to her none the less.
Helena rolled her eyes, "What's wrong."
He turned to her, and held her hands, "Um... I don't know how to tell you this..."
"-Oh my fucking God! You're breaking up with me!"
Helena shot up and pointed at him, "I knew it! How the fuck could I ever let myself fall for this shit, again!"
"...Helena, calm down..."
"How the fuck do you expect me to calm down? You stupid bastard! Why didn't you just tell me! I can't believe I fell for this..."
He stood up, "Helena-"
"Get out of my house, Billie, get the fuck out!"
He turned around and stormed out the door. As she heard his car start, she fell back onto her couch crying. -She felt so stupid, she knew it, he was just trying to get back at his wife. He didn't really love her, no one did, it was all lies...

Chapter 19.

Mathew came walking through the front door about nine o'clock that night. He did not see Helena any where.
"Mom? Mom, I've got great news, they're letting Melinda out, since how she was drunk! Mom, are you even here?"
He walked through the house, and through her bedroom door. She was laying on her bed, still crying.
Mathew sat down on the bed, "Mom! What the fuck happened?"
"Go away Matt!"
"No mom, tell me what happened."
She sat up and wiped tears from her face, "I'm so fucking stupid! I fell for it, again."
He hugged her, "Did he break up with you?"
"Yes, I should have known better. I mean, why the fuck would he give someone like me a chance?"
"Mom, don't think that way..."
"Matt, I did it again! How could I be so fucking stupid!"
She fell back onto her pillow.
When the phone rang, Helena cried, "Don't answer it, don't fucking answer it!"
Mathew walked away, he answered it.

"Hello?"
"Is your mom there?"
"Look fuck-head, haven't you done enough damage to her?"
"What? Oh my God, she took it wrong, please, just let me talk to her!"
Mathew handed the phone to Helena, "He really wants to talk to you."
Helena sniffed, "Hello?"
"Helena! You took it all wrong, I wasn't going to say that..."
"Then what the fuck were you going to say? Tell me!"
"Helena, just listen to me, I love you, and I'm scared to ask you this..."
"Oh what? You want to fuck me one more time before you leave?"
He laughed, "No! Well, that would be nice, but no. I was going to ask you..."
Helena's patience was wearing thin, "Yes?"
"Well you... I understand if you say no..."
"What?"
"Helena, I really don't know how to ask you this..."
"SAY IT!"
"Okay, calm down... I really, really..."
"What are you going to say, it's not like you're asking me to marry you or some shit like that..."
"Actually, yeah I was..."
Helena laughed, "You're kidding! Right?"
"No, will you?"
"Um... Yeah."
