Queen of the 40 Thieves, chapter 2

She never let anybody call her by her name, so to the world she was M.I. She got it from her best friend since kinder garden, whose name was Emma.

Let's say that M.I. was a nice sweet little girl when she was four, as long as nobody would dare to call her by her real name, and the first day she went to kinder garden, Emma called her by her real name after introducing herself, and well, M.I. punched Emma, and Emma, being daughter of punk parents was a not-so-sweet girl, so she didn't sit and cried, instead, she punched her back and called her bitch-insane-whore-damn insane bitch...and M.I. told her that she could call her however she wanted but not for her name, so Emma stood up and told her something like, "Sure, Miss Insane". By the end of the day Emma and M.I. were already best friends, and the teacher found it so stupidly hilarious that they started to call her M.I., short for "Miss Insane".

I don't think that anybody beside her parents and Emma knew her real name, even to get to know what M.I. stands for took a lot of time to my friend.

Emma "introduced" M.I. to punk music at a very young age; they were the best friends that you could ever imagine for the next nine years, until a day like the day M.I. ran away, that was the day that Emma died, eleven days before M.I. turned thirteen, it was a car accident, she didn't even made it alive to the hospital. And even six years later, M.I. hadn't been able to get over her best friend's death.

Those were the last thoughts that ran through M.I.'s mind before leaving, when she saw a photograph of her and Emma a couple of weeks before she died, she took the picture and left. Emma was the only thing from her past that she didn't want to forget.

When she finally got out of the house, she felt like looking back, but she didn't, her decision had already been made, she wasn't looking back ever again.

She walked to the train station, which was five blocks away from what she used to call "my home".

She didn't have a reason to hurry. She had been saving money during the last year because she knew that it was going to happen at anytime, but she didn't know where to go, though.

M.I. got to the train station and soon asked to some employee when was the next train to anywhere departing, it was in fifteen minutes. She bought tickets for it, not even knowing where it was going, but she couldn't care less. She found it out just when she was already on the train, it was going to Atlanta.
