Queen of the 40 Thieves, chapter 3
"Well, here I am," she thought while she was leaving the Atlanta train station.
She started to walk in this town that she didn't know; she was walking to a destination unknown, even to her. She walked for a long while, don't know exactly how long though.
It was around 5pm, she was starting to feel hungry, so she walked into a grocery store to buy a snack or something, and someway she started a conversation with one of the cashiers, called Kevin, he was around her age, maybe a year older than her. He told her that his neighbour lives in a big house, that they rent rooms for cheap prices, and there was an available room by that time, apparently it really didn't matter for how long she was staying, they could rent it to her for a day, a week, a month or whatever. Kevin was out in thirty minutes, so he offered her to walk her to his neighbour's house if she was willing to wait for him, and so she did, it's not like M.I. got a choice anyway.
It was obvious to her that this guy, Kevin, was feeling attracted to M.I.
His neighbour was willing to rent her a room for a cheap price, and well... it wasn't such a good place, but it was ok, and it felt better than what used to be her "home".
Out of nowhere this idea came to M.I.'s mind, she was leaving behind all that she ever knew, all that was known to her, because that's what she was running away from, so everything she ran away from was now part of her "old world", and deep inside she knew she had to change too, because somehow, she had run away from herself too, from the "old M.I.". So she felt like making changes on herself as well, so why not start with simple changes? She decided to change the colour of her hair from its natural colour (a very beautiful red colour that made her green eyes look even more alive) to blue, and so she did.
It was late night and she was there, lying in the bed of some house located in some shitty part of Atlanta, miles away from where she was that morning.
"My mom most be freaking out, I'm usually already in bed at this time, sure she has already called all my classmates to ask them if I'm with them. Surprise mom! You won't find me, I'm miles away! She must be so worried, how is she supposed to know I ran away if I didn't even leave a note or something? I'm so stupid; I should have left a note! I just want to be away from her, I don't want her to die, I should call her before she has a heart attack or something. Yeah, I'll call her."
She was about to get out of the bed to call her mom, but she shocked her head and decided not to do it.
"No looking back, remember? And what's done it's done," she said to herself.
It was hard for her to sleep that night.
She woke up the next day, and for some estrange reason she was happy. She was sure that she had made the right thing running away.
She went out to walk around, she saw this boy with a "punk look", and she got closer, just to realize that it was Kevin.
"Hi! I like you better without that store's uniform."
Kevin was surprised, and with M.I.'s new hair colour it took for him a couple of seconds to realize that it was M.I.
They walked and talked for a while, well, Kevin talked and she listened, she had erased her past so she had nothing to talk about, but she mentioned that she might need a job, Kevin told her that they needed another cashier at he store. They walked to the grocery store in silence, at least until Kevin laughed and said:
"I've just realized that I found you a place to stay at, I can bet that I'm about to find a job for you, and that I've told you a lot of things about me, I even told you about the fight I had today with my best friend, but that I don't know anything about you, not even your name."
"That's because I just ran away from home yesterday, and that's all my past, yesterday is all my past, and I don't have a name," she said.
"Oh, you don't have a past and you don't have a name? You're insane...so, should I call you miss insane or what?"
They both laughed, just that she laughed for five minutes or something. I don't think that guy, Kevin, could ever understand why she laughed so much at that.
When she was able to stop laughing she said:
"You can call me however you want because I just don't have a name, okay?"
"Okay Nameless, whatever you say!"
